    TV + Cable box issue

The issue itself is with the TV, but it makes no sense to me at all.

I have a HD-DVR hooked up to my Samsung LCD, and I use the Charter remote to work both. I can control the cable box no problem prior to turning the TV on. After I turn on the TV though, I can only control the cable box for about 30seconds. After about 5 minutes or so, I can control the cable box again. If I turn the TV off then back on, I get that 30 second window again where I can control it.

If I plug the DVR into a different TV this doesn't happen. If I plug a different cable box into the same TV, it happens.

Can anyone make sense of this?

Also, anyone have any idea why my HDMI port doesn't work? Is it cheap to get them repaired?

I had this issue once, it turned out that the TV was so bright it was stopping the infra-red signal from getting to the DVR (only) once the TV had a chance to "warm-up" -- moving the DVD to a little different area solved it.

That does make sense I guess. Would have never thought of that. I guess I can move the cable box further away see if it helps. Except that the cable box works fine after a few minutes, the TV would still be as bright wouldn't it?

I'm not sure if this is what your are experiencing, it just sounded similar to my old situation... I cant think of any reason it would then start responding again... unless the screen went dark enough to not over-ride the IR? dark scene in a movie?

    I dunno...

are their any lights behind where you sit - cause I have also heard of people having the exact oppisite issue -- they could not use their remote at all during the day since they light from the sun behind them would drown out the IR signal as well.

also, I have Comcast, and before I figured out the issue they swapped out my remote at no charge when I took it into the service center. if it had been the remote that might have addressed it as well.
