POL and FFXI Installation on VistaLaptop problems

My desktop (WIN XP) has generally been what I use to p lay FFXI but the old thing is dying so I'm trying to set it all up on my laptop (VISTA).

    Some info about the laptop-
A couple months back my hard drive got busted and I was sent a new one which has basic things installed on it, from my own work just Firefox and AIM currently. System runs on dual core processor, uptodate graphics card etc. much better specs than my desktop across the board.

I am using the discs I got a long time ago when XI originally came out to install and have run across this problem:

The programs will install (I successfully went thru POL disc, discs 1-4 of FFXI) but nothing in the PlayOnline folder will run. POL won't open, not even the config files for FFXI. When I try to run them it says that the program has stopped working, "searches" for about 10sec for a solution and says Windows will close it and notify me if there's a solution.

Any ideas? I did try uninstalling and reinstalling and same thing happened, including before/after restarts.

Did you download the Vista version of POL from the playonline website? You will need it. Download/install that and then install the other non POL discs.

Go to playonline.com and download the crappy vista version or alternately check the windower vista faq to get a smaller version that doesn't take nearly as long to install.

Oh and vista sucks ass. I cant even afk overnight for bazaars anymore on my laptop because closing the lid makes widower crash.(I've disabled everything that made my previous laptops do the same thing but vista still does it.)
And dont forget to set windower/etc to run as administrator.
