Actually I was replying to LD's OP, which makes it on topic. He claims this isn't baseless speculation. But it most certainly is. You can't squeeze anything out of "Chocobos will be different." Yet here we are in thread trying to do just that. The only thing coming out is "wild" and "baseless" imagination, fan fiction.
EDIT: I will preemptively answer the question "Why did you even view this thread?!?"
Because LD thought he had to make a "better" speculation thread than the rest and made the title as nondescript as possible. If the thread had just been called "BASELESS CHOCOBO SPECULATION" I would sigh at another shitty thread in this deteriorating forum and moved on. Imagine my surprise when LD would go on to say that his speculation had some merit lol, that it was above the rest in pointless babbling.
I hope they let you name your chocobo, instead of selecting a name.
I'm tired of this BRP. Your horseshit is NOT on topic. I'm not going to argue what constitues as a base, and I think you've been indulging yourself at the cost of an at least decent conversation.
I suggest all your posts in this thread and those responding to them (including this one) be deleted. I'm not having this in FFXIV too.
Maybe switch to title to something decent while at it
lol. Sometimes I'm glad minds like this one aren't the ones developing our games. Adding the option to travel in a different form shrinks the game world guys. Don't ask how, it just does. Teleporting doesn't, Airships don't, but a flying chocobo, fucking hell that ruins everything man. I forgot how narrow minded some FFXI players were and are, geez.
P.S. Play FF Tactics or any other of the many FF with flying chocobos and maybe you'd see it.
I actually strongly dislike WoW but I do like some of the things they have that FF doesn't. I also strongly dislike machinery, and not too fond of airships. I like the idea of having a fuzzy/feathery animal to fly around on and control myself, it would be a really fun aspect of the game imo. They don't have to be personal, they could be rental, but to me, still a cool idea.
Equipment mules because of job changing.
What I think would be a really great idea is to be able to start breeding your own Chocobo after a certain level/quest requirement, something. Perhaps it will develop certain traits to help your character depending on how you raise it. If it was to have pack mule traits, perhaps bigger inventory. Better hearing (I will address this in a little bit), better attack/defense if it could help you in battle, increased speed, increased riding time, etc.
In addition to the breeding, I had somewhat of a unique idea for Chocobos as mounts/helpers.
So, while you're in town your Chocobo will stay in the stables and graze. When you leave, you talk to the stable owner and ride off on your chocobo, or rent one perhaps if you don't have your own.
Now, your Chocobo will need to rest at some point, due to exhaustion. So here is the bulk of the uniqueness to my idea. When you dismount your Chocobo, it would STAY active in the area, graze, and rest. While the Chocobo is doing this, you can go off on your own and your Chocobo will stay around the area (maybe for a limited time, or maybe you'd have to dismiss him to send him back to the stables it was previously?). Once you and your chocobo have parted, say you want your ride back without walking there, simply blow your Chocobo Whistle, and your Chocobo will ride over to you ready to ride, provided it has rested enough. This is where the increased hearing trait would come in, in case there was a maximum distance that you could blow the whistle at, if you were too far away, it might not hear you.
In addition to just being a mount, the Chocobos could also be valuable helpers by carrying goods for you. Not just a simple pack mule, but imagine you're playing a crafter class and you need to go out and collect some wood/fish/ore. You ride your Chocobo out to the location you will be working in, dismount, and your Chocobo will follow you as you chop wood, what have you, and then hold the said items while you work. The chocobo could only hold a certain amount of weight/items at a time and when you're done, you can send him back to town and meet him there to collect your items. (Riding back would be too strenuous for the Chocobo.)
Just some ideas, haha.
Ramset has some interesting ideas. Not to piggyback on WOW ideas...but to steal from WOW ideas:
It would be kind of neat if your chocobo had "equipment" slots where you could put a variety of things. I'm not sure what exactly variety of things you might see, aside from my one thought:
saddlebag's of inventory space. When you start the game, you have very small bags on your chocobo, say like 5x5=25 inventory slots. Then on your character, you have everything you are wearing and room for 2-3 more full sets of gear and w/e.
Through crafted items/drops/rewards you can upgrade the storage space you have by getting increased bag sizes on your chocobo.
I guess this is basically the same thing as gobbie bags, but in a way that allows you to expand it in a variety of ways.
Just a proposal
You can only ride a choco that you have bred until either you or it reach a certain status.
After that, you can fly, but not very high, say enough to fly over that tunnel in Valkurm dunes, and maybe about twice as fast as riding. You can lose HP from a bad landing
Rental chocos don't fly, or they charge like a wounded buffalo for flight privilege, say 5,000 gil for a flyer vs. 100 gil for a runner.
Flyers can't go anywhere that runners can't go, so you can't fly into a dungeon.
Chocobo Breeder (fielder job) will breed Chocobos, Chocobo Trainer (fielder job) will raise, and train chocobos for specific purposes ---> chocobos will be different
Mog Chocobo Satchel
I see no need for Flying mounts. The reason it works in WOW is that the game world is designed for that.
To me, flying mounts would seem a bit out of place in FF, but if the game was designed for it, that's fine.
I think it also makes more sense in a PVP/Griefer filled world like WOW. Post-ToAU FFXI, transportation and teleportation really solved most of the problems in the game. The way you teleport in Aht Urgan to get to XP zones/Assault/nyzul/etc. I think is perfect, and seems to be similar to what they want to do now with Aetheryte and Guild Leves.
The only reasons that Chocobos would need to "fly" is similar to that of FFX.
In certain parts of FFX if there was a "chocobo feather" on the ground if you approached it, the chocobo could fly a few feet to clear an otherwise impassable gap.
In FFXIV, maybe allow for a similar situation, but other than that flying is unnecessary.
