So simply simple that it doesn't even need to be simply explained. It is simply an inferior system,
EDIT: Though it would appear PSN is not simple! If only everything could be simple. Like explaining why.

If you want to play a game with a friend, sending a game invite will do nothing more than alert you that a friend wants to play, not allow you to simply join the game with them like live. Viewing someone's achievements/trophies requires that you perform a rather lengthy sync, as opposed to being able to take a quick glance at them. You can remain in a party together regardless of what game you are playing, and continue to speak with friends normally, unlike PSN's rather clunky system. Updates for PSN and for games on the PS3 seem to be rather time consuming, and more than that, have what I have viewed to be a rather unacceptable rate of failure. I have seen several different people, with different PS3s, have to start an update several times because part way through, it would inexplicably crash.
I have yet to encounter one feature on PSN that is less trouble, work, or time consuming than an equivalent feature on xbox live. Please, if you have, enlighten me.

So you are getting confused by trying to perform things you can do on Live on PSN? Well maybe you need to incorporate new methods when using something different. How can you actually get frustrated into rage over this?If you want to play a game with a friend, sending a game invite will do nothing more than alert you that a friend wants to play, not allow you to simply join the game with them like live...

PSN's system isn't "clunky," it is bare. It doesn't have a party system that is useful for swapping games with friends. However, we've now come to a problem that is only situational. So much for "simply inferior." PS3 has an inferior friendlist. Earlier you said the whole interface was crappy, which I couldn't disagree more with. I honestly don't give a shit about friendlists and in PS3 they are manageable enough. I really don't need to follow around the same 3 people through more than one game. The best features are going to come from the games themselves. SFIV could use a lobby like SSFTHDR for example.
Of course, for the intense trophy/achievement viewers(and etc) this could come as a problem, but throwing around blanket statements is retarded.
That's interesting, because I haven't. Tired of hearsay yet?Updates for PSN and for games on the PS3 seem to be rather time consuming, and more than that, have what I have viewed to be a rather unacceptable rate of failure. I'd have to agree, I've never had any of those problems with my PS3. I think they are just trying to BRP this thread.
I will so LOL if this happens. Offering a "premium" service is just a sneaky way for Sony to sell updates they should be giving for free.
Because from how it reads, your paying for access to download content on a subscription basis, WHICH MEANS NOTHING IS CHANGING TO US AS IT IS NOW. Even with this update, we (speculate that, because that's what this whole topic is about) can log on, get with friends and play, JUST LIKE ALWAYS.
God forbid you pay for an additional service. Especially one with the potential of this. I would for sure pay 150 bucks or so for a years worth of DLC. Hell Rock Band songs by itself would make it worthwhile.
Since this is a thread about psn and stuff I had a random question that did not warrant a new thread. How do you access the games to buy for the psp on psn? I wanted to purchase ff7 but I couldn't find it on sony's website or anything.
Can I get to it with my computer or do I need a ps3 to access the psn?
I know stupid question, yada yada pirate yada, but I actually wanted to buy it.
Thanks in advance.
If your PSP is up-to-date, you'll be able to access PSN directly on the PSP itself under the network menu.
Does the article mean the 18th of August? Highly doubt we'll see FW3.0 by then if they're sticking to their plan of having a 2.90 first. Regardless, I'm not expecting a low from FW3.0 if their past trend has been anything to note.
The only major addition in the last year was ingame XMB, and that was sorely needed if only for friends list and reconnecting your damn net connection. Trophy add-on was so-so, can live with 'em, can live without 'em, but I do farm them whenever possible just for the sake of completion factor.
Lols were had when they implemented ingame group TEXT chat, whoo! Such a useless feature given you had to interupt your gameplay to actually view/send replies.
As for pay-for PSN, I'm not too worried as if Sony makes the wrong move they're going to get a large shitstorm from the internet.
3.0 is supposedly bringing cross-game voice chat. I remember following some link on joystiq to a guy posting on a forum who posted the exact date 2.80 would land weeks in advance, then started going on about PS3 slim and how it existed (this was quite a few months back). He then went on to say 3.0 will be bringing cross-game voice chat and a bunch of other things, but said it was a long way away... so if it does go live Aug 18th, I'd be suprised.
I'll try find the forums I found it on.
Despite it being speculation I think a lot of you are letting this statement, the only statement with any supposed details on the premium service, go whoosh right over your heads.
Everyone that is seemingly upset with this, are you even reading this part? UNLIMITED downloads. Those who play enough downloadable titles a month can just pay one flat rate and download everything they could want, potentially saving a huge amount of money. Those that wait for just that one title or those few songs, or that premium character for their game could just go on like they used to, with nothing to further bother their gameplay.
However, all of this is contingent on the speculation being accurate, and this being the only feature which will be charged for.

You can download the latest firmware somewhere and then load it onto a memory stick.
I DEFINITELY would not mind paying fees to PSN, if it meant better service/software updates/feature sets similar to Live. I always chalked up the garbage that is PSN and its features, because it was a free to play service. This is why I ended up buying multiplat games on the 360, because it was sooooo much easier to communicate with friends, and join up to make parties together...cross game chat...all the good shit.
I understand that its all speculation, but that's my 2 cents. :3
Edit: To clarify. I understand that the PSN itself is fine...You can play online games just fine. But, the fact that it's hard to communicate with friends, and "easily" hop in and out of games with friend's, is really annoying.

This I got from the "rumor" not pay subscription like XBL. Seeing how Microsoft is going to be offering a monthly fee for unlimited Netflix it would stand to reason that Sony would possibly follow suit will their online movie/TV service. I would surprised if the game portion of PSN changed at all but it's hard to say.
Haven't I given enough of my money to Sony already?
Apparently not.
