    Pulling sound clips from games

Is there any way to do this besides holding a mic up to your tv and getting a crappy recording? I found a sound in one of my games I want to make my text message sound but I dont know how to get it and i cant find anywhere online that has it. Thanks.

You could connect the L/R RCA composite audio cables to a stereo 3.5mm adapter like this, and connect the other end to your computer's line-in port and use Audacity to record from the line-in port. It's a little bit of work, but it'll get you what you're looking for. You can find an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter at Radioshack for like 5-10$.

is the game fullscreen? it being windowed in any way will make things easier. Your sound card will usually have some kind of a stereo sound, or if its a creative card it is labeled "what u hear" if you select that as a recording device it will record your computers sound on whatever program. As rockstaru suggested audacity is a good free one.

Using the RCA connectors should work just fine then - a bit of extra work, but inexpensive.

Ok, I got the program and the adapter. I can hear the sounds of my game coming through my computer speakers, but Audacity isnt picking up anything. How do i set it to record from my line in jack or mic?

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7285/aud.jpg - Use the dropdown box to select line-in. Mine is grayed out because I currently don't have anything plugged in, but you should have line-in available as an option.

If that doesn't work, try right clicking on the volume icon in the task bar opening up recording devices, and setting the default recording device to line-in. Then hit record in audacity.
