Yeah this is what I've been doing, while waiting for guild to open or whatever I sat and spammed my songs, even asked a whm beside me if they could toss me a haste to make it easier :3

Cor is seeming more and more unique and delicious as you guys talk about it. I definitely am going to have to at least try it! Thank you everyone for the replies they're helping me out a lot.

No bard(lvl 64 I think) but dont skill make you have higher haste/attack/acc on buffs? I mean ya its only a % or two when you get great gear and cap it but why would you say going geared wont help, this always pissed me off. Gear does something for bard, no matter how small it might be. Gear yourself right. Just love seeing a lvl 65 bard get a resit on slow in a tp burn when lvling up. Thats sexy seeing sam's shadows going down b/c that 30% slow does shit ya know?

everyone is gay and happy when they get that 100 more dmg on a WS vs a gimped player, why bards find the 1-2% + from gear nothing is funny. I bet i could TP burn on my sam in lvl 1 gear and get 20k/hr.

Meant that to say as long as you aren't stupid at BRD can get away with being naked sans instruments.

Cor is most definitely interesting, and more fun to play than Brd. But if you're just bumrushing a job to 75 for merits, take up Brd. No one wants to see another Cor/Whm with 100 Marksmanship and AF1 gun leeching merits. COR is incredibly expensive, and time-consuming when you're not dinging 75 into capped Marksmanship merits. Whereas with BRD, no one gives a shit.

So whats the general party connotation towards a brd rocking opo crown, harness, spellcasting rings, and other good gear vs the naked brd that sits and casts minne/minuet the whole pt?

I really want to avoid being the "just another bard". When I level a job I go for better gear than average, instead of rocking full af all the way to 75 and after.

BRD/NIN. At least get the HQ instruments. Gear isn't super important, but it's not hard to gear bard properly to do well.

EDIT: As above post: at least get a skill set for march/madrigal, haste set for recast and chr/skill/macc for debuffs. Also, get the lullaby horn, it really is better than the harp. Also, Opo crown sucks, AF2 hat or Marduk.

levling brd is fun, also for endgame

I don't understand why people say BRD is boring in exp/merits, you may not be partying with good enough melee :/

Leveling BRD to 75 was one of the most fun things I've done in this game, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If your melee are decent, you're gonna be very busy keeping buffs up and mobs coming. Also don't gimp it up, get some CHR gear and a Mary's Horn and be useful.

As for general gear advice, you can get away with simple stuff like Demon Helm (even Turban works), Noble's Ribbon (Wind Torque at 65+), Yigit Gomlek, Sha'ir Hands, Loq/Music Earrings, Omega/Balhran's (or Nereid's), Jester+1, Gleeman Belt, Sha'ir/Mahatma/Shadow Legs and Goliard Clogs.

BRD is very simple to gear up to an average level, and it's a busy enough job to warrant lots of fun and entertainment during the leveling process and merit parties. Oh btw, fuck /WHM, sub /NIN or you will want to stab someone in the eye.

XPing on BRD isn't boring if you're the puller (and like pulling).
The boring part comes when you're 75 and end up in the BLM party for a Dynamis city.
I mostly enjoy playing bard, though since my other job (SCH) is kind of uncommon and moderately useful, i'm not always forced to do everything as BRD.

I kinda wish i had done COR instead, but i needed to level a job quickly to get shit done in this game before i'm forced to take a break from it. If time isn't a concern to you, i'd say just be a pirate for the cool factor.

Please do BRD. The world doesn't have enough. I don't know where these crazies are getting all these BRDs from...fact is BRD is about as rare as it ever was and the need for BRD never goes out of style. It a simple as fuck job but it's easily the strongest support for everything. If you must do COR, do BRD first.

If everyone had BRD LVed, this world would be a happier place. Brd as stated already, it's a very boring job. It has the highest burnout rate. There is always a need for fresh replacements.

Few tips, all from the aspect of pre-75:

Sub: WHM and NIN

Songs: Bare Minimum is Minuet, Madrigal, March, Ballad, Elegy and Lullaby. Threnody is nice. The other songs aren't used that much. While I don't advocate not having all your spells - if your in a bind for gil you can skip the other songs and use it for gear.

Gear: HQ instruments for better/longer buffs, or use Mary's Horn. From 1-75 you can simply stack CHR. Terra's and Apollo's Staff at 50. You can easily get away with wearing RSE and AF1 (depending on race). Minstrel's coat is free and easy to get, camp it the next time you do joytoy.

Skill: Usually after you gain a new tier song, the previous tier is still a bit stronger for the next few levels. For easy skillups - go to sea and sing to goldfish, or do beseiged.

Post 75, merits:

Sub: NIN

Songs: Meh

Gear: Get a -bane ranged weapon for pulling. Work on lowering your casting times with Yigit and Minstrel's ring - and other gear.

Merits: Lullaby recast.


...There is more, but if you don't plan on using BRD for end-game, there really isn't any reason to go into it.

I have both BRD and COR at 75.

Exping COR to 75 was fun to shoot stuff and QD was pretty fun. Now I am 75 I don't waste gil on high level COR bullets in merit pt. I have AF2 hat so people are content for me to come naked except for hat, 1 bullet and light cards and spam rolls if I choose to >.> If I wanna shoot stuff I'll get on RNG. My COR is 'ok' geared but the fact that I have a 75 BRD means there is no way I will ever be asked to come COR to an LS event (unless it is Sarameya where we use 3 CORs) so I pretty much stored all my gear. COR makes me fall asleep in exp now and I won't do it for anyone except a full LS PT ~.~ However, a well geared up QD COR on HNM is bad ass. I've seen COR's take hate on Tiamat from spamming Water Shot lol. Plus all of the solo stuff COR can do is pretty bad ass and fun.

BRD - If I don't pull in PTs I fall asleep like instantly. Singing Ballad and double min for 3hrs = zzzzzzzz fest. Pulling at least keeps my attention slightly more focused. BRDs that refuse to pull should be kicked from the PT imo. BRD at HNM events makes me /wrists... especially Ixion and the constant Pianissamo spam on tanks to stay out of range ~.~

Conclusion for me - BRD is fun in exp if you pull and if you DD in campaign but lame ass boring in HNM. Cor is zzzz in exp but can be fun in HNM/End Game.

If you level BRD to 75 just to merit your dancer, what are you going to use those actual DNC merits for? Groups in general will want you BRD instead regardless of how many merits you have for DNC.

One last statement, I am in the mid 80s of WW and climbing, so I can synth my own HQ instruments, which to my understanding is a very valuable asset to a bard correct?

Get gear/spells for all your levels. Shout in the zone that you plan on XPing in that you're seeking as a BRD. Make a search comment that says what you have and that you'll get mobs for the PT. Most importantly however:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR KAZHAM KEYS READY FOR AFTER QUFIM ISLAND!
