BRD is fun as long as you pull. Otherwise as others have mentioned, you'll fall asleep.

Make sure you have appropriate instruments for lullaby (mary's horn), elegy, madrigal, march and minuet. +1s are fine, +2's are usually a waste of time.

Level WHM and NIN to 37 (assume you have /NIN for DNC)

    Noble's ribbon
    Cobra 55 set feet
    AF hands/legs are good
    Nereid rings
    Gleeman's Belt
Jester's Cape +1 (no don't gimp on NQ)
If you have any points, Yigit body is good otherwise errant/osode
Sha'ir hands are ok for meripo

If you're going to spend any money, get an Apollo's and Terra's staff, wind torque. Get the torque if you possibly can but light and earth staves are ok.

2 songs on melee - earlier is usually madrigal and minuet, later (merits) is usually march+minuet but judge party

    2 ballads on mages.

You prolly won't use threnodies until endgame. You will pick up a lot of weird shit songs you will also rarely if ever use, thankfully most of them are cheap.

Do not skimp on elegy/march/minuet/madrigal/ballad - most other things you can pick up gradually - keep the listed ones current and you're fine.

Other songs you might get asked for are the INT songs for BLMs at lower levels, STR and Preludes for RNGs.

Virelai seems to be mostly for entertainment purposes - has very specific and limited situational uses.

Mazurka is win. Hymnus is actually good in fights where things have gone nuts and everyone is dying horribly. Hopefully that isn't your meripo.

QFT. Mandies do that sleepga move, and I swear it goes through my TV because I'm always falling alseep doing them. Qufim is meripo style partying with those worms which is a ton more fun and better XP than lolzkazham.

Not to mention, waiting for your tard party members to take an Airship sucks. Especially when you get the /tell "I just missed the airship, it's gonna be a while." Fun times.

BRD is a terrible job for a lot of reasons. Level COR-WAR-SAM-DRG if you want invites. Fuck BRD.

My COR is 'ok' geared but the fact that I have a 75 BRD means there is no way I will ever be asked to come COR to an LS event (unless it is Sarameya where we use 3 CORs) so I pretty much stored all my gear. COR makes me fall asleep in exp now and I won't do it for anyone except a full LS PT ~.~ However, a well geared up QD COR on HNM is bad ass. I've seen COR's take hate on Tiamat from spamming Water Shot lol. Plus all of the solo stuff COR can do is pretty bad ass and fun.
The bolded parts are directly related. This may sound harsh, but COR is fun if you really play it.

COR is actually my favorite job, in many roles. I play it whenever I can. However, that often translates to "when there is already a BRD". You want March, Elegy, and crowd control, and there aren't enough people with BRD leveled (I love "DD ONRY" types, really...it's like leveling a mage job would turn them metrosexual).

This means that if you level BRD, people will want your BRD, often. There are advantages to pimping out BRD, and you will notice them, but they are slim. And again, people will still grab the mediocre ones instantly. You definitely burn out on the job, and nothing makes you burn out faster than if you're an awesome BRD supporting average DDs. Dynamis is awful, especially if you're in a BLM party (I hope all your melee parties have BRDs first, or someone is Doing It Wrong).

If you level BRD to get merits on your DNC...hide it from the world, because unless you delevel BRD to 54 afterwards, you're coming on it to everything.

The key to Bard bumrushing to 75 is staticing with a healer and a tank. You can always fill in the rest with pickup DDs, but without those two roles filled you won't be partying. Now, i know that some around here would argue that Provoke is overrated, but personally, i don't like standing about getting beat on while the melees generate hate. As a bard, you can have it your way, if this is your preference.

Pull with Elegy. I've had to council far too many Requiem or Threnody pulling bards to pull with Elegy in the nicest way humanly possible (hey, i don't want to lose my bard!) to start with Elegy, not cast it after they're done buffing everyone.

You're the bard, not a DJ, you don't have to take requests; you decide what songs are most appropriate. If some Dragoon insists they have capped accuracy and want march, turn the chat filter on and make sure "DarkSepherothx misses the Lesser Colibri" isn't spammed in chat log. This happens particularly when you're synching at the entry level of a camp (54 at Wajaoum, etc). Yes, this has happened to me, and yes they get Madrigal, like it or not.

At a given camp, make a pull order. The mobs don't wander all that much, so memorize the spawn points, know what you've pulled and when it should repop. East Ronfaure [S] and Caedarve Mire outside of Nashmau have pretty solid pull orders. Sometimes, you want to pull farther mobs earlier, so that you can pull closer mobs at later parts of the chain for higher chains. If the mobs don't link and one pops right at camp, leave it alone; save it for chain 6+. This depends on how quickly your party kills, of course; you might be able to kill it first and have it repop at chain 6+. I try to avoid multiple pullers in a party, it messes up the pull order and you don't know what's popping where and when. After partying in a place long enough, the pull order becomes routine.

Try to get your party to follow you as you're pulling. They should learn the pull order as well. This is especially true for East Ronfaure [S] and Nashmau Caedarve Mire, where the pulls can be far apart. The bard having to run all the way to the mob and all the way back just wastes time. I've always chastised players who do otherwise, calling them "Trees"

Also, pull the mob from the greatest distance you can between yourself and it. You'll take less damage this way, if any at all.

Be prepared to sub Whm or Nin, they are both valid subs, and a backup healer is not a bad thing if you can get a THF or Rng or whomever to pull.

Try to form your own parties. If someone has substandard gear, don't hesitate to give them the boot, but have reasonable standards.

So far it seems like leveling this job shouldnt be hard, apollas and terras staff are easy for me to get, Ill just synth my own :3

As for why I'm getting merits for my dnc, its not for ls events or whatever, I want\need these merits for soloing, things like NFR, which require me pumping in at least 12 entire merits before it becomes a usable JA, along with 15 merits to reverse flourish for it to become super useful, (allows my to solo SC sam style) another 15 for haste samba to get into effect, it just goes on and on.

And to the people that say bard is boring in dynamis, clearly you've never played dancer in dynamis. I get most of the time stuck in the little 2-3 man add party to keep them alive (white mages can't really see them since not in the alliance) and my sole jobe the whole run is to keep box step on the monsters.

The DDs generally /nin it so they never drop below yellow, so you can imagine I sit at 300% for the entire run (cant ws cause what happens if something happens and I need to heal asap?) hitting my quickstep macro every 2 mins. Boring...

Most interesting part for dancer is in the off chance a blm fucks up on a smn and we wipe, in which case I drop, form with alliance and wait for everyone to unweaken, then 2 hour and swap through alliance full healing everyone back to full while mages rest mp. then its back to boredom D:

    I think I'd prefer brd ._.

Drugs. Nice mix of uppers and downers. Something to make the world more interesting but not make you too drowsy. I recommend a good old fashioned hippy speedball; Coffee and weed.

    Start the denial early. Practice:

    "Uraat has brd rite?"

    "Ura come brd plz"

"Brd? I don't know WHAT you're talking about!"

Just don't level it. It's enjoyable for about .001% of humanity.

if you level brd, stop fucking crying and just go as brd if your ls asks it of you. dont level a job and join and endgame shell and then complain if you are on it alot(esp. if you have brd, cor, rdm, whm, or pld)

This entirely. It's ridiculous how people think they can gain the benefits of having a mage or support class (Aka easier invites to EG LSs), yet not have the burden of playing said class.

    Bum-rushing bard you say?!

    Level 1 - 12: Just solo.

    Level 12 - 22/3/4: Astral Burn

Level 22/23/24 - 36: Qufim Island Level Sync

    Level 36 - 54: East Ronfaure [S] Level Syncs

Level 54 - 60: Level Sync on Lesser Colibris

Level 60 - 75: Merit parties. Double March, grab another BRD. Even at 60, you can make pretty insane merit parties.

I'm currently doing this on COR following this routine, and I'm 2boxing a RDM PL whenever I make a Qufim Island/East Ronfaure party. I was level 12 a few days ago, and I just recently dinged 57. I plan on having COR @75 by sometime next week. Also, it helped that I leveled THF to 75 and have Marksmanship capped, so I'm not worried about my skills getting gimp.

I'd have to change the way I'm getting from level 60 to 75 though, because COR buffs aren't all that great in merit parties at 60, at least according to my current knowledge of Corsair.

Follow this on BRD, you'll be 75 in no time if you do nothing but exp. My COR was level 35 three days ago, according to FFXIAH, and like I said before, its 57 >_>' (I lost track because I'm leveling so fast, at least in my opinion)

This is why you shouldn't level BRD. If you enjoy your other jobs there is no going back to them. You'll constantly be on BRD buffing whiny assholes who only leveled one job type.

I'm sorry, but the correct response to the person who goes to parties naked w/ just a hat is this:

    You're a fucking terrible COR.

If you played the job, at least within earshot of sub-par, you'd have a good time with it. That's like saying Warrior is boring if all you do is buff your PT with Wacry. . .c'mon.

What? That's is the only role of a WAR; are you stupid? Lol... Protip: WARs only need to use WARcry.

Once more for the OP: PT, Power-level, FoV, and Astral Burns. Thread answered and done?

I'm not sure if this was a woosh. . .but that was -exactly- my point. On the previous page someone mentioned not bothering shooting on COR and going to parties wearing only the AF2 hat and doing rolls and some Light Shots.

So no, thank you, I'm not an idiot.
