Your LS is definitely not the norm. Good for you guys though. Most people in the beginning of the game leveled Bard because it was in demand and it was easy to get into an elite shell at the time, fast forward 6 years and low and behold they are still bard at every event and have grown to loathe it.
I was working on my Bard as my 3rd job back in 2004 but stopped when I noticed this trend. I mean if you like playing it then I suppose its a different set of circumstances, if you did it for any of the afore mentioned reasons then its just as I said, a trap. But I can sympathize with you in some regard. Some see Corsair as a trap job as well, but I absolutely love it and never ever feel like I am "working". Even camping I feel good because its something I wholeheartedly enjoy.
On the flip side there are lots of people out there that shot themselves in the foot by trying to take the easy route and have and are still paying for it.
Thanks for the advice all, it was my first merit pt on cor and I leveled it all syncing in east Rona S so I know I have a ton to learn. Anymore words of wisdom in response to my fail post are more than welcome, I'm not a dousche who's going to argue my fail is right just because I did it. I'll do some searching on here for cor merit advice by the posters mentioned above.
We don't have to flag up either lol. It's not uncommon out myself or any of our Corsairs to get a party even when we are Alliance leader and either in Halzam testing grounds or in Riverne - Site #B01 with "LINKSHELL EVENT" smeared in your sea com.
It gets annoying as fuck but you just have to roll with the punches. It could always be worse I suppose lol.
Agreeing with Mizango here.. I'll be /anon and get invites just b/c someone ran by me and saw my AF2 hat (the only visible Cor AF I ever wear while running). Who needs a flag when you can get invites from looking like a pirate!
Having played brd for 6 years and pulled since the yeee day of kuftle tunnel party,
I'd still have to say pulling in meripo pt is still really fun.
If you like hitting the mobs and doing damage then cor is your thing,
but if you like racing against time (and your melees) and controlling the flow (and movement) of your pt then brd is for you.
I find myself getting most of my satisfaction from hitting higher and higher chain # rather than damage. I also like the thrill of controlled chaos when you deliberately linking the pulls to save timeWith that said, a good empty camp and competent melee will be required to have a good time.
Regarding trap... if you have other well geared useful jobs like blm, whm, sch... then I don't think brd will be a trap...
If you only have melee jobs then well... it's hard to justify not going to events as brd...
Ok so another question, Im surfing through the hgih level 70+ stuff and am looking at this shair manteel and noticed it has cashmere friggin wtf cloth as a mat, putting this thing in the millions of cost.
So is this piece one of those speed belt uber wtf expensive but omg so pimp pieces of gear, or one of those super expensive but friggin retarded cause theres a much cheaper and better alternative pieces of gear?
Spam Finale, get Yigit.
One other tip for you (sorry about continuing the derail). Do the rolls you -don't- want on yourself first. Like in a typical merit pt where you're rolling DRK/COR/SMN rolls, do it in this order: SMN -> DRK -> COR. That way you'll have favorable rolls on yourself for a larger amount of time.
This is especially true if you end up meritting Phantom Roll Recast and Winning Streak (whether that's wise or not is a debate for another thread).
It's all dependent on how you use Corsair. If it's strictly merit PT job only go with Quick Draw Recast 5/5 and PR Recast 5/5 for T1 and Snake Eye 5/5 Fold 4/5 Loaded Deck 1/5 for T2. The perks you get from Snake Eye and Fold are going to FAR outweigh the benefits of an extra minute or so from not having to roll i.m.o. during meriting. It allows you to fluctuate your rolls and how good they are greatly.
And I had a bunch more typed out but just highlight-backspaced it on accident so screw it. This is just my opinion, others may vary (plus I think there are whole other topics discussing this anyways).
Hm, kk
Theres a free alternative, but with a loss of epeen. You can use Yigit Gomlek which proides -10% song cast time, but then you don't get the 2% haste or the +7chr.
Really, Sha'ir manteel is a all in one piece, if you have it the only other body you really need is minstrel's coat for marches; however, it isn't a piece that will make your bard or break it. in fact, rather than spend 4-5M on this, I went and spent 1M on Shadow coat, and 12M on Marduk's Jubbah(yay me), and here I am, wanting one now lol.
It's only real use for me though is the -song casting time, but meh. In the end, its 1 piece that does everything except refresh you, but theres better pieces imo for haste/chr/macc, and a free version of -song casting time, soooo, its whether or not you wanna blow the gil on it, or if your LS is feeling generous, and if you wanna spend 5M on saving inven space
IT makes me sad I don't see BRDS getting Opo Opo Crowns anymore. Those used to be bad ace. I spent 2 weeks stuck at 65 trying to get one (wasn't gonna level till I had it) that was the best quest i ever did because of 2 reasons:
Mithra in Kazham hate me, and I get one of the most eye-pleasing hats in the game.
Albeit when i am actually on my brd I full time AFv2 Hat or use my Walmart Turban.

But seriously, If I changed to bard and sat outside MH for 5 minutes, I'd get an invite.
All you gotta do is make sure songs are up, etc. Don't fall asleep on your parties (biggest thing here, even though once i fell asleep and woke up with 2 levels gained).
Have all your important spells (Ballad, Minuet, March, Elegy).. you should be okay.
Don't be retarded with gear though, if you can get it, get it. Not having HQ instruments is dumb (Stick with the +1s, +2s are waste of gil) solely because it makes your spells worth more. And seeing how I didn't have Pianissimo when I leveled bard back in 2005, consider yourself lucky for not having to bust your balls positioning yourself so that you balladed the mages and the paladin, without overwriting the melee's minuets.
