I think you're absolutely spot-on regarding the OP, but that doesn't change the fact that you're incredibly wrong for agreeing with his idiotic after-thought.

Well... if you're coming out, there's a good chance that you support getting fucked in the ass anyway right?

I don't think honesty would fall in the same category as selfish.. sure you get something off your chest but then wouldn't lying be selfish? Lying to keep yourself from facing possible consequences.

Plenty of things people do are selfish - it's not like you're coming out for the betterment of other people or to put their minds at ease - you're coming out to feel more comfortable yourself.

Just because it's selfish (and it is) doesn't mean it's wrong.
The fact we live in a society that we can't have sexual privacy reverses that though. it's society that's selfish, not the individual for wanting to have freedom and piece of mind.

Are you selfish for wanting to having a gun, or are you just experiencing your "god given rights?"

A dude can't go around fucking dudes nonchalantly without family and friends being all up in their biscuits about it. The fact that they have to be in a closet to come out of in the first place is selfishness on societies part.

Not saying you're wrong, just a more apt perspective of the situation is all.

Where did I agree with his afterthought again?

Shit is selfish, and there's still nothing wrong with it. You come out in order to gain for yourself, sometimes at the sake of others pain. You should discount their pain, but it still exists.

Nothing wrong with looking out for #1 - I don't think people do it enough in life.

I don't see how coming out = forcing people to accept who you are. It's just telling them what you are, whether they accept that or not is their problem.

Well, I guess it depends on your idea of "coming out" - if you make a point to tell people independent of any inquiry about your sexuality, that's coming out.

If you just start dating dudes and living your gay life, and that's how people eventually find out - that's just being gay. If people ask questions and you answer them, I don't really consider that to be coming out - that's just being gay.

Was just seeing it how others do. I'm more over making up excuses dealing with the awkward questions "Why haven't I ever met your girlfriend, etc, etc."

I get your point, and I agree that acting for oneself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'm telling you that I was perfectly comfortable with my faggotry long before other people got wind of it. The decision to stop lying in this case was purely selfless; I could have easily gone on with my homosexual hobnobbery without mentioning a thing, I made the decision to make it known in an effort to stop disrespecting those I care for by repeatedly telling them lies.

You seem to be completely missing the fact that moral obligations in regard to fact and fiction are extraordinarily subjective; at times, the truth can hurt much more than a lie, and vice versa. In this case, I'd be in the wrong for keeping it under wraps, whereas someone that, say, had an overly religious family that they absolutely despised, could out themselves just for the sake of hurting them.

As far as anecdotal experience has told me "coming out" can be as direct as actually telling people or as passive as just living your natural lifestyle regardless of who's watching and letting things play out for themselves.

Because of the emotional cages some of these people go through growing up it's identified as "coming out" because they're making that decision to be themselves regardless.

No reason to argue this really as we basically agree with each other we just have different perspectives on the topic.

    K. Do the same with your heterosexuality, then. Try to think consciously for once about all the things you do in your daily life that throw your sexual orientation in peoples' face without even realizing it. You'd be surprised.

We have different definitions of "coming out".

I thought you meant just telling everyone you knew you were gay, not just being gay and letting it come to you.

yes because lying to people is more disrespectful than telling them the truth

What does selfishness have to do with disrespect?

And I never once in this thread advocated lying. I don't consider honestly answering a direct question to be "coming out".

Wait actually I have no idea what you're actually trying to say Creamy.

you mean remind each woman that i'm interested in women? and just cause attention to myself by wearing things that emphasize on my sexual desires, and act in a way that attracts my kind of people (hetrosexual)?

    <_> thats being perverted.
