Elmer the Pointy and ever-resourceful has found a comment from Tanaka in an interview where he says that FFXIV will most closely resemble FFVI:

Never played FFVI, but this could give some significant clues to some aspects of the game.
they did say that chocobos would play a diferant role in ffxiv than they have in ffxi.
It will be a playable race.
Hmm, on the guild bank issue. It might just brew lazy people to start making money for themselves and just start relying on the guild bank. Though I do agree that a mule can also be compromised if no one keeps a constant tab on accounting with how much that mule has and what is being bought or handed out at a given moment. But what it boils down to, is accounting. Whether it be a LS Mule for a guild bank or a guild bank system, as long as there's accounting behind it, then either or will work.
As for the game, pvp globally is insane (came from EQ Vallon Zek Server and I didn't like how after you level'd to 5 back in 98-99, you'll be smack down in the ground vs a lvl 25 Shaman troll, lose 1 piece of gear and all of your money), so if they're going to (if ever) implement this, it would be better if it's just battle areas, like what everyone seems to agree on. Instances, I would think they already learned their lesson on FFXI, but I'm also assuming that they learn from their past mistakes.
Raid, when one "raid", I see something (like Dynamis/Limbus) where your guild/linkshell attacks an area and find a boss at the end, so this should be covered in the instances. But if you call raid as "kings", then that's what I consider "camping". And frankly, I'd rather not have this "kings" camping idea anymore. It boils down to who has a faster voke (and in this case nowadays, who has a NASA), which shows no skill, and only says you would rather spend 6 hours out of 24 everyday (with how FFXI's current system is now) for 1-3 particular mobs for a drops. Let's face it, do we really need something like this again (who would really like to see another Argus/Leech King camping scenario)? If anything, they should just put the highly sought after gears into instances.
Jumping.....really?? I mean, I've played games with Jumping and I don't ever see any reason behind it.
