Red Robin, from Kingdom Come(Dick Grayson) and the new series(Tim Drake.) An evolution from Robin, basically.
I thought Dick Grayson was Nightwing
You're still arguing that you don't want it simply because WoW has it. I don't see the point really, these are features many games have. You are getting overly defensive at someone mentioning WoW, it's simply a reference, WoW is popular it has a feature people like, they will cite it as an example. They aren't projecting the entire game onto what they hope FFXIV will be, you are being overly critical and defensive. I think most people want jumping simply because it's a cool feature and it's fun. Jumping only being for Platform and Shooter games? That's a really poor point, how does a genre define the actions one is able to perform? When I think RPG I think role-playing game and the person who's role I'm assuming most certainly can jump, I don't see a break in logic or a reason to oppose it on genre alone. Jumping around looking stupid, well that's a personal preference really. Someone could really hate the way Elvaans look when they run but are you going to take out running altogether because some kid thinks Elvaans look retarded when they run?
I think it will be funny if FFXIV has jumping, if only because some people seem angry even at the speculation that it could exist.
Why would you want a manual jump in a Strategy game?
Dick Grayson is Batman
I don't really see the point in jumping. In other MMOs, does jumping add anything to the gameplay other than the ability to jump? The only example I've heard so far sounds like it wasn't implemented well at all. I also think it'll look kinda silly seeing guys endlessly hopping around wearing 150 lbs of armor and weaponry, just doesn't seem to fit the setting. Might have the potential for unintentional map exploits and such as well that wouldn't have surfaced if jumping wasn't in.
Either way, it's not like it's make or break. It's just my preference to not have it in.
There's only two I kinda know of. I'm not 100% sure about the second though.
MapleStory has sidescrolling platformy combat + RPG job/ability/level/gear progression.
And the Eberron Dungeons and Dragons MMO has a few instanced dungeons you have to "run" through, jumping platforms, Indiana Jones kinda stuff (love that campaign setting). However, I only remember reading this in some random article, might be mistaken.
I really hope that there will be no jumping in FFXIV. It kinda fits in WoW I think because the graphics are kind of cartoony. Try to picture jumping in a game like FFXI. It would just look stupid and out of place. You would see people bored in cities just hopping around like in WoW. Like i said its fine in WoW, but honestly we don't need it for FFXIV.
It should be like Pokemon
DRGs can use High Jump to get over a cliff
RDMs can use Fly to avoid Count Bifrons
etc.
You mean Fry, not Fly.
Jump:no unless its like a CoD style thing you can do like a 1 foot jump real shit. I cant take how people cna jump 14x their size. no FF game has had jumping has it? its always been "Click x" type thing. This i could find ok too
Jumping is best left to the games like aion coming out. The hole thing centers around air combat. FF14 does not seem to be that sorta of game. Again Something really small could be ok nothing like we have seen in other games would fit.
PvP: I do like PvE much more then PvP. I do not want a open world PvP system thats all. Maybe something like 1-2 zones are PvP that dont have much going on in them. Then a system where you can set time for events and what not.
SE aimed to make a game off the 11 PvP system it is cool if you ask me and could of been a really good system if they stayed with it. They gave up on it and it just died.
People like you make me get mad too! SE a few updates back fixed the hole blinking crap with a way to pick a player from the side bar. Lets not forget macros!
I am with you tho the system sucks. I dont see it as much b/c i can just do //ma cure3 dave and it will cure III davethemanwhosnameistofuckinglong. They could take some shit from windower...
It's would only exploit something if the game wasn't made to have jumping, see FFXI. If a game is made so that your choco can jump over a 3 foot fence then fine. While i understand your argument about someone say like a paladin, trying to jump 4ft into the air, then yes that would be impossible. But what about someone like a ranger? i mean... they're not wearing a metric ton of armor.
I just don't want to see another game where roots that stick up a 6 inches into the air make it so i can't take one bigger step and just get over them.
Of all the things to be arguing over about MMO features, I really can't believe its been multiple pages debating the pluses and minuses of being able to jump.
Three words why I enjoy having jumping in WoW: Night Elf somersault. ;3 Otherwise, it doesn't really add anything spectacular. Just a fun~ish mechanic.
So much discussion about jumping, I've never played WoW so I don't know why people don't like jumping but in the other MMOs that had jumping I really enjoyed it. Thinking of Square Enix games I liked jumping and the freedom of movement in Kingdom Hearts. xD
A few things I'd like to see in FFXIV huh?
A music playing system similar to Mabinogi/Lord of the Rings Online. People can compose pieces of music and even play together. Just important to have a /music off function for those that don't want to hear it.
Fashion Sets that are worn over armour. Knowing SE they will make awesome looking armour sets with crap stats again and put the good stats on the same boring models. So fashion items allow you to not look like a weird clown but still have the good armour underneath.
The sets would be appropriately themed though, not like cash shop sets in free to play games where people run around in Mecha and teddybear sets in an ancient china setting.... o.o"
A Guild/Linkshell Cottage with a linkshell bank. A house or room for the linkshell to hang out in with a central guild bank/storage. I've experienced some drama with this system in other MMOs with the leader stealing stuff or stuff disappearing etc. but it's also pretty usefull.
No more throwing away of unneeded quest items, you just put them into guild storage and someone else can take them out when they need them.
I'ved used EQ2 as a benchmark for some things I want to see in ffxiv, and I'll admit, I'm a bit biased because I currently play EQ2. But I completely agree with the above. Guild housing rules when implemented properly. Not saying EQ2 did it right ( They didn't, cities are completely empty because you can do absolutely everything in your guild house, no point in leaving ), but some sort of linkshell house + bank would be really beneficial.
Besides, the leader stealing stuff from an ls bank is no different than a leader "losing" an ls mule with all your sea pops, znm items and 30 million gil is it?
I don't know if any game has these things but I want them anyhow.
Being able to tweak your appearance, like opening a visor on the helmet or changing on which arm you wear your shield/sword or being able to unequip one shoulder pad off a breastplate.
having more than one stance for a weapon, like lets say alternate stances to whichever you think looks better.
ability to tweak how you store your weapons, like maybe wear the shield and/or sword on your back or changing the side your spear is pointing on your back.
Capes! (yes I said it) but also with more than one way to wear them, wrapped around your shoulders or using a pin to keep it in place or even tuck em in shoulder pads like knights and such.
Being able to slightly alter your armor and lets say add battle damage to it. (holes and cuts on a cape, slash marks on a shield or armor. (heck even if it happens by itself and you have the option to fix your gear for a reasonable price)
Exp giving quests. after trying WoW a bit (just 10 days, I swear) I think getting exp off quests is a lot more entertaining than grinding exp in parties.
Jumping: in a realistic way.
CSs where your character doesn't look retarded.
We have NPCs being badasses and pulling off anime stunts while our own characters behave like a retard trying to fit in the role.
Hitch hiking: I would like it if you're able to give a friend you happened to come across running on foot a lift on your chocobo (within reason. 2 galkas on a choco is awesome but no)
This is what I want. (dispite most of it being either unreasonable or down right silly)

This is in some games, but requires a LOT more animation, and I doubt they'll ever say its worth doing from a development perspective.
This is plenty of games, it's basically like adding temporary decals onto your armor when you take damage that look like cuts and wounds, when you get healed, they disappear.Being able to slightly alter your armor and lets say add battle damage to it. (holes and cuts on a cape, slash marks on a shield or armor. (heck even if it happens by itself and you have the option to fix your gear for a reasonable price)
Doesn't really make a lot of sense to me from an MMO perspective, because of how often you get slaughtered/healed in the span of like... a second.
It sounds kind of like this is what they are trying to do with the Guild Leve system.Exp giving quests. after trying WoW a bit (just 10 days, I swear) I think getting exp off quests is a lot more entertaining than grinding exp in parties.
In WOW now I believe they have really, really expensive mounts that allow you to give rides to people.Hitch hiking: I would like it if you're able to give a friend you happened to come across running on foot a lift on your chocobo (within reason. 2 galkas on a choco is awesome but no)
