I hope there are region based servers this time around.

hope not, wanna play japanese mmo, learn to like to play with japanese. what made ff11 unique is the fact that you can play together with people around the world.

Region based would suck. I enjoyed playing with people around the world (mostly because if there was an EU server it would be filled with people who don't speak English) and making friends. The only reason I suppose region based would be better would be to help outclaim the Japanese?

Yup, world-wide servers. Region based sucks and splits the community. Community is everything.

I hope they do look at current MMOs. However, your definition of "must-haves" including jumping and swimming is a joke.
Swimming is totally unnecessary and huge waste of time. Neither of these matter at all as long as the game is designed to be played either with them or without them.

Just based on SE's past and footage of this game, I can just about guarantee there will be no jumping, so you might as well stop QQing about it already.

Now, UI customization, enmity tracking addons, crafting addons, economic/auction house tracking addons, that would be sweet.

This is my favorite part of FFXI, getting exposed to other cultures in ways no other medium has given me access to.

    LOL are you fucking serious?

Anyway I hope UI customization (if there is any) isn't anywhere near WoW's level of retardation.

I agree, at least in no other MMO I played, I got as much "cultural exchange", but then again I played on Ragnarok which (apart from the JPs and NAs) had large spanish and arab communities.

I find it odd that you judge swimming as more redundant than jumping though, when neither of them have no apparent use apart from a sense of freedom of movement.

Yes, I am. Being able to mingle actively with people from EU, Japan, lolChineseRMT, pacific islands, South Africa, while doing something FUN, is not something that I've gotten from any other game.

But hey, to each their own, sorry there is no KKKOnline for you to play. PS, thanks for joining the boards this month for your excellent contribution to the discussion.

I guess abstractly they are the same; to me, I was thinking of swimming and jumping in WOW. You swim at like 60% of your walk speed, which made it incredibly annoying. Plus you can drown, etc.etc. and was just really unnecessary, and didn't serve to "immerse" me (no pun intended...) in the world in any way.

People who alienate an entire user base based on the country they live in, yeah that's a community all right. You guys must be forgetting how anti-NA some Japanese people were, it's no secret nobody liked dealing with the language barrier and JP Only was not an uncommon combination of words. Take the JP kids off that pedestal, region servers, if they were populated well, would be better for most cases. Excepting the EU, since their languages are split it's kind of silly to put them on their own servers, they should be able to join English speaking servers or French/German/Spanish, etc, speaking servers.

You'll find people like that on NA servers as well. Many US players don't like canadians or mexicans and there is also the french canadians that prefer not to speak english. That point is moot.

I dare even say that I met more asshole americans on NA servers than I met asshole JP on world servers, but maybe that's only so because I was playing WoW in the first case.

Keyword being some. Not all Japanese players are like that, so why write off an entire region based on something that may or may not happen to you? While some are eager to write JP only and not deal with the English speaking community, others will try and communicate if only to practice their speaking skills.

It always works both ways, the NA community felt it more because the JP population had been playing FFXI longer than we had. I've had plenty of JP friends and even JP HNM linkshells. It's all a worthwhile experience with world wide servers, even the shitty parts.

    People on my black list
    A. Accepted a party/nyzul/assault/some sort of event invite and then made me wait for 30+ minutes just to say they couldn't come.
    B. People that insisted on wearing certain gear for looks/bond while trying to do something semi important. Wedding ring or outfit, nation aketon, starter ring, etc.
    C. People that said or did borderline retarded shit. "I don't like using food, its not worth the gil", "I don't need a dark staff, RDM should be sleeping stuff", "People that use +1 gear are dumb"
    D. etc

Say what you will about this JP pedestal, but I never once put a Japanese person on my blacklist. The bottom of the barrel JP players would put the bottom of the barrel NA players to shame. I would much rather team up with a random unproven JP than some random NA player, and that's a fact.

Auto translate has its flaws and could obviously be better, but I rarely ran into problems using it.

Also, I only got "JP only" from BRD and RDM, which I chalk up to bards and red mage being picky.

In the early years of Final fantasy XI an American or two getting invited into a Japanese party was very common.
The language barrier wasn't that great since we could still function very well in a jp party.
In my opinion as to what made jp players look for jp-only parties i think that was because at some point in time there came alot of stupid and i mean really stupid players that made the Japanese players never want another horrible experience that they had with these people.
Japanese players really enjoy an English speaking party that is very skilled and good at their jobs.

I dont think it will be that bad this time around.. Most of the time the whole JP ONRY thing was used because back then we were all new to the game, so there were a lot more NA n00bs.

Not saying you won't see it period, just you wont see it as often.

IIRC the average JP player is about 27, and the average NA player was a teenager when the game started here. Imagine any group of 27-year-olds generally having a good time when a bunch of clueless teenagers bursts in. I can guarantee some hostility under those circumstances.

I agree with you here when it was required to communicate for skillchains and magic bursts back in 2004. If you didn't pay attention and know your job, then you didn't get chain 5's, and your exp suffered. I enjoyed exping with JP's then because they didn't go afk every 5 minutes. We would go 3 straight hours with no breaks of any kind. I'm not so sure anymore, when everything is so easy now. Hell, you can have 1 or 2 people be afk and still keep chains going. It's a different time now and the game itself is completely different.

    Hmm
    Jumping? Sure
Swimming, No thanks. The Valkurm beaches were just fine.
Enmity tracking addons? Nothanks, I want FFXI to scare away noobs, not make it easymode

Mobs dropping equipment? To an extent. How about mobs dropping.. Decent gear. Maybe the odd piece that's really nice, but no endgame gear. This would be especially great at lower levels.
Quest gear is definitely a yes, but it should all take time, like how AF coffers were. it makes you love that piece of gear. Sitting in Oztroja for a few days looking for a chest, talking to LS, I still remember that. It wasn't really fun, but it made me love that piece of armor. I felt satisfaction once I finally opened it. I didn't get that feeling once in WoW or Aion or any other MMO.

So stuff still needs to be hard.

PVP? Meh. I could do without it. PVP in any MMO is broken as it is. Look at how often they tweak classes in WoW. Can't they get it right? No, because someone will always complain. X job will be better than y, X job will get nerfed or y will get buffed, x will complain, etc. PVP just creates a whole lot of bitching.

Maybe not world PVP, but some Ballista/Battleground things might be cool.

Worldwide servers - Yes, this was great in FFXI. Except (Not being racist here) The Italians in FFXI never freaking used the translator, and in my opinion were worse than the "JP ONRY" thing back in 2005. And because of this... Well, those italian only Linkshells were pretty fun to sit back and laugh at them try and figure shit out. Those italians need to be more social, man.

Instances - Like WoW NO THANKS. Stay as far away from that easy mode game as possible in my opinion. Every MMO i play tries to mirror WoW. Hey, companies, WoW was easy and lame. Thats why so many nerds play it. They can sit there autoattacking shit and look cool when they hit max level. And thats why every MMO that clones it FAILS. Aion I just played the beta for. It's a WoW clone, but with the Skillchains and stufff... The combat is a lot better, but the gameplay is still a WoW clone, and that makes me sad.
Although, fighting the elites and stuff (Which was a joke in a 6 man party) fighting them with a 3 man party kinda reminded me of XI.

Biggest Nono in my opinion: Do not be like every MMO out there and make healers be able to do some of the highest damage in the game. Healers should be healers.

I would like to see a more user friendly interface for FFXVI. This never was much of an issue to me until I did try WoW (/sigh -.-), but I will say that the way you could move stuff wherever you wanted on the screen was great. I would like to see some sort of overlay map too, even though ApRadar works fine, it is still an add on and not incorporated by SE themselves. I will say that I do like the "clean" look to FFXI as compared to WoW, but I would at least like the option available to me if I choose to tweak things.

As far as gear swapping goes, this is how people are measured in FFXI.
    Example:
Player 1: "Resist?! Lemme see your Dark Magic Skill setup!"
Player 2: "Changes to Dark Magic Gear*
    Player 1: "Gimp, lol."

Now while I am a gear whore as much as the next "good" player, I still think that carrying over 60 pieces of gear for my BLM is a tad stupid. After saying all of this, I do hope that there are SOME gear changes to an extent, but I hope that they are more realistic and dont make you change 12+ pieces to just sit down and rest. >.>

The one thing that is great about gear in FFXI is, that a person can just look at you and pretty much know the hell you had to go through to get certain gear. Stuff like Novio's, Torques, E. Bodies almost certainly have a story behind them, and even if they dont, any player that at least knows how to get the item will understand the commitment to get them things, whether it be by earing LS points, time spent, etc. I cant tell you how many times people that I have never played with would be like "Wow, you are an awesome player!" when all I am doing is sitting in Whitegate.....lol.

Also, jumping only benefits travel for the most part in WoW, but I dont see a point to this in FFXVI unless it can be used in battle (I dont wanna hear shit from the Dragoons here... XD )
