No jump for FFXIV please............can't stand people jumping around in wow/aion especially at pvp -.-
First time I saw jumping in WoW was the last time I ever wanted to see it. They were standing there jumping in place and looking stupid. I'm sure SE could have found a way to make it functional and realistic looking for small obstacles if it were possible to squeeze the animations in. At least they could reduce the barriers such that we glide effortlessly over insignificant ledges and such.
Unfortunately, from the alpha footage we see the Elezen archer running into an invisible barrier on about a 5 inch ledge that she had to go around. This is disappointing indeed.
Solution: Implement a jump system like The Legend of Zelda. There was no "jump" button, but you could hop down a ledge, small hops over objects, and/or climb up small ledges.
What I want is some insanely epic shit, with great rewards.
For instance, massive fucking dungeons that require a completing a variety of challenges (even riddles that are never quite the same, etc)... Almost impossible to implement this next part, but I want this to be somehow a challenge someone faces on their own, without others fucking shit up or making it less of an "adventure", or just plain annoying.
Basically, I want some Indiana Jones shit, where you raid a temple, get past a bunch of traps and puzzles and you're rewarded with something shiny. I don't want it to be an event where you're farming coffer keys or camping coffer spawns against 50 other people. I want some places to have an illusion of being empty or unexplored (and no, I don't mean zones that are empty because they're worthless).
Parts Arrapago and Zhayolm SOMEWHAT achieve this, but it's because of hoardes of true sight enemies - and they're really not guarding anything of value anyway.
Also, I'd like the epic "endgame" dungeon. I want a huge spiraling cave of insanely overpowered mobs that no one can get past for a year or two. And just to keep up with the epic theme, make sure no one can read the dat files for this dungeon. No one knows what is at the end of the dungeon, or how deep it goes. Mobs come charging up the spiraling cave in hoards, and respawn too quickly to rest in between rounds.
One day, some group finally makes it to an open area, and promptly gets decimated by Ultima Weapon. And Ultima Weapon simply works as a fast spawning Porphyrion, dropping keys to get further into the dungeon, and eventually fight Omega Weapon.
As a FF fanboy, keep some elements true to the history of the series.
- Lich and Kraken should be saved for possible storyline uses.
- Gilgamesh too (FFXI wasted his potential).
- Old school cactuars please.
Combining systems from FF7 and FF9 could be pretty neat... but I'm sure SE has their mind made up by now...
A good FFXI Materia system could work like this, had they decided to implement it...
Fire Materia (Level spell available in parenthesis)
BLM: Blaze Spikes (10), Fire (15), Fire II (40), Fire III (57), Flare (60), Fire IV (70)
RDM: Blaze Spikes (10), Enfire (17), Fire (27), Fire II (56), Fire III (70)
Equipped: Fire damage taken -10%, STR+5, Double Attack+3%
BLM: Fire element spell MP cost -15%
Nulls Effect of "Blizzard" materia
Something like that... earning points on the "materia" would eventually let you cast the spell without using the materia... keeping the materia on would still be beneficial for the stat bonuses... the "null effects" would keep it from being overpowered (equiping fire and ice materia would nullify the ice materia since fire overpowers it... BLMs would still be able to learn spells, however)...
I also like FF9s system for job traits and "little perks". As you level up, you gain ability points. These can be used to set traits like "Resist Poison", "Auto Refresh" - and maybe stuff like "Quick Pockets" (use items like Potions faster), Chemist (items have a stronger effect), etc...
it makes me sad too, but...
at least 13 went back to the classic cactuars (not to mention jumbo cactuar)
I want the taru panic motion on the falafels ^^ and for the falafels to look as cute as they sound.![]()
I never understood why there's not a single place (except the Mog House) that loads individually for each person. Runescape is a shit game half the time, but they can run TONS of the same mini-game because the players are taken to their "own" arena, of which there are many copies. That way, people can have PvP without reserving shit (oh and the menus are much easier than in Brenner... I hate, hate brenner).
So yes, the idea of a solo-dungeon sounds amazing to me! I'd love to run through a tough series of mobs on my own, without competition! I'd love to be on my own and see how far into the dungeon I can make it! :D
The reward at the end should be for an adventurer who can handle the challenge by himself!
I'll also second the motion for epic dungeons, but you know what's gonna happen. Didn't Promyvions get taken down about ten notches because people complained? If they make a difficult dungeon, it better stay rough! :D I wanna die til my eyes bleed!
In addition, I hope the "best gear" is obtained by skill and smarts instead of botting/RMT and playing ridiculous hours to farm ridiculous amounts of items.
I want to see relics represent someone who overcame difficult puzzles, won some tough battles, and completed some long, challenging quests. I don't want it to be possible for someone to have a "relic" and have someone say "he RMT'd it"... I don't want major cockblocks in obtaining relics being "who can POS to the ??? fastest", 2% drop rates or needing to farm 250,000 beast bloods before SE nerfs it.
Balance stuff by making things more challenging, but reducing wastes of time.
.....
FFXIV will hold my attention WAY longer if they make it more than just a cycle of getting gil, getting gear, fighting NMs and getting more gear and gil...
Being able to do some really kickass things with the mog house (or whatever) would be a start... expanding, maybe even designing your own place...
You know what'd be cool? Motorcycles. I want to ride a damn motorcycle in FFXIV. It'll never happen though.
Maybe instead of the Bard we can have a Jester, with a random event meaning that the jokes occassionally fall flat:
>The Jester tells the one about the nun and the trombone players.
>The party obtains the effect of wishing he'd kept his pie-hole shut.
>The party turns on the Jester and pounds him to a pulp.
the mob with the r/ex drop makes good it's escape...
they've said multiple times ffxiv will be based more around "character development" than grinding, there aren't even like... levels set in stone. You "level" by using a particular weapon often in combat, and the weapon gains more powerful skills as you use it.
maybe there will be motorcycles. ffxiv is based in the future, after all. Oh, and apparently you don't ride chocobos anymore... so. who knows what transportation will be like.
I they throw in motorcycles, there better be a side cart for my bitches.
hells yeah.
Why do I get the feeling that it's like FFXI replacing colibri with the boyada tree? Find the weakest of the high level mobs and whack on it for hour and hours so that you can gain abilities or traits or spells.they've said multiple times ffxiv will be based more around "character development" than grinding, there aren't even like... levels set in stone. You "level" by using a particular weapon often in combat, and the weapon gains more powerful skills as you use it.
I just hope that they don't replace experience parties with skill up parties and try to pass it off as character development.
It looks like you're assuming that the technology base hasn't moved in the ten years since FFXI hit the drawing boards, that MMORPG philosophies haven't changed in the same time, and that SE has learned nothing in those ten years.
You will still kill things and rob their bodies, that's what MMORP games are about and that will still be your basic activity in FFXIV, unless you decide to choose a crafting-only path. What will change will be the consequences of your actions. That's going to depend a lot on things that we know very little about: the story line(s), the game economy, what the progression system is really like, the abilities you can load onto your character, the reward system, and even mob behavior. I'll bet mob AIs are smarter, and the beastmen will be tougher, with more progression per fight, but also with more KOs.
It is more or less ten years since work started on FFXI. That's five+ generations in tech-time. FFXIV is not going to be FFXI with the V written on the box in crayon.
On the real tho, I would love some deep weapon customization.
Hey I'll penetrate with it as long as I can customize it, that does not include my weapon with a hilt in the shape of a cock, shit needs some ground rules.
I like FFX's weapon/armor customization features.
Things like Auto-Haste/Auto-Protect/Auto-Shell might be broken in an MMORPG, but I still like the basic idea of it.
FFXI has so many useless items strewn about, there are some weapons that serve zero purpose at any point of the game... there are several that probably don't exist on some servers due to their uselessness.
....
It'd be nice if they could find a nice balance with stuff like "Additional Effect: Slow" (or any other status effect), and spells like Break, Death and Demi... (make them useful, but not overpowered).
Part of the problem with FFXI was the lack of gear progression as the game aged. Maybe abjurations and relics came too early, maybe the game's balance was built on eggshells - but putting even "Damage Dealt +5%" on a weapon would be considered "game breaking" by some.
