I hope to see equipment that is currently worn not taking up space in your inventory. That was probably the very first thing in FFXI that I thought was downright stupid.

This would promptly fail the second someone in salvage got Torrent'ed with a full inventory of cells :D (yes, who has a full inventory of cells? but the idea is better than someone in salvage with a full inventory to begin with@@)

I hated the equipped-gear-taking-up-inventory thing the minute I walked out in to Sarutabaruta to kill my first Tiny Mandragora. Torrent-style attacks are possible because of that mechanic working how it does... However, I have my doubts about Torrent-style attacks in XIV if your job/class depends on what you're wearing. As we are indeed talking about what we want in XIV.

It doesnt really matter for me, as long you have enough inventory space for what you're doing.
Actually, I would like two bags, one for random items/loot, and another the pieces you uses (would include macro gears, situational gears..etc)...it would help keep thing sorted, and avoid accident at the vendor.

One thing i hope to see is a similar loot system (with slight improvement). I don't want to click on the mob's corpse to get my loot..that shit is annoying.

I'm just hoping they don't WoWify XIV at all. If it's the standard way MMOs are nowadays I can honestly say I won't play it. The quests from guildleves or w/e better not be 'go out and kill 10 crawlers'

I'm strongly hoping they keep the pacing battle wise like FF games.

I'm also hoping macros like situational gear plays a roll in XIV. That is one thing I absolutely loved about XI. Being able to swap to your evasion gear while casting Utsusemi: Ichi and then to haste gear just before it casts created players I labeled as "skilled"

Some may argue that's not skill but when you look at it, you've got a player that has super evasion while casting utsusemi and then lowers his recasts and then you have the lazy player who just stands in evasion or haste gear the whole time not utilizing his gear to its full potential.

I read in one of the earlier Q&As that they had that SE was going to remove the auto-attack feature, meaning that you actually have to press a button in order to swing your sword/lance/axe. I understand where they are coming from, some people just get bored. But that would remove (in part) one of the elements of a MMO that i consider important. MMOs should be based of statistics (i.e. 1 DEX = .75 acc (For 2 handed weapons)) If i wear a hat which gives me a 5% faster attack rate, i want to attack exactly 5% faster than someone who isn't wearing it. I know that that is stretching it to a point but that's how i feel. I also don't feel like sitting looking at a meter go across the screen waiting to hit a button as soon as it reaches a certain point. I just want to sit back and watch my charactor go through the action without spamming a button ever 5 seconds for him to punch something. At least make it an option.
However, i do believe a limit break/weapon skill where button timing is concerned would be a decent idea. Again optional. Similar to FFVIII, when you prefrom a WS a bar comes up and at a certain point you have to press a button and if you do it correctly, you score a critical hit, and if you miss there is little, to no penalty. Just added damage for those who wish to partake in the "mini-game" I personally would enjoy that, and find that fun.

I liked being able to put together gear sets for particular situations. It was an inventory sink, but I liked being able to fully maximize every ability's effectiveness by switching gear for it. Whether it be staffs for the blm or tp/ws sets for my sam.

After playing WoW and Aion, I realized how much I appreciated the non rare/ex gear in FFXI. I like reusing different armor on different characters or selling something that you just got done using. Buying gear for anything under max level in either of those games just seemed like such a waste, and I like pimping out my lowbies.

Something I liked about WoW was the ability to buy back things that you just sold to npcs for what you sold the items. WoW got boring quickly, but there were a few things that I liked.

Something I would like to see changed would definitely be the addition of items that were instantly calculated to be inferior to existing options that weren't that difficult to obtain in the first place. Hagun ftw.

Another thing I'd like to see changed is quests/missions needed to unlock certain areas of the game needed for end game. This is the main reason I don't pick up a character and go back to ffxi right now. I know it'll be a pain in the ass to get sea and sky again because most good people will already have it, and people that are already done with those things don't really want to do it again. As if that wasn't enough, every time you get a group together, you never finish it fully in one day. Then you get people dropping out of the group, you gotta pick someone up close to where you are or you have to carry them to where you are only for them to drop out after you got them to that stage...

    Holy run-on rant batman.

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this game and maybe seeing some familiar faces again (some maybe more than others).

Macro swapping equipment is exactly what really I DO NOT WANT in FFXIV. I think you should have to pick equipment you're going to wear based on what you're going to be doing, not blinking around for every different little Job Ability or Weaponskill.

This could easily be achieved with a cool-down delay like equipping Blue Mage spells in FFXI. I really hope for that. It creates strategy based on what you're going to wear vs. what you're going to fight, where you must plan ahead a bit. I think there may be more skill involved in that and, hell, that would result in a lot of variation in how you and others might approach the same group of enemies. I think a system that reflects what I have in mind is the Ability-Equipping found in FF9. You couldn't change them during a fight, so it would be wise to know what you're up against (research, bestiary, and such) and equip shit like Bright Eyes/Insomniac/Loud Mouth/Jelly/etc. when you're up against that type of stuff, or maybe another person would possibly choose to deal with the status effects and choose HP+20%, Attack Bonus, Counter and crap like that to get the job done faster. Different strategies for the same fight. Variety, I say. Less cookie-cutter "gear sets" for every job at every event for every spell, for every ability, for every mob.

Face it, changing your body armor, necklace, helmet, pants, boots, rings, etc etc etc while in the middle of a battle so you could exploit some discovered and STATIC multiplyers is fucking tired. Fuck, even if the multiplyers varied/fluctuated, there would be a lot less of a standardized "acceptable" set of equipment for everything. Takes a lot of personality and fun out of a game.

I also hope Limit Breaks finally make a real appearance in an online title. I could see how 2-hr abilities could be considered Limit Breaks, but that's just a (sometimes shitty) short-lived queued up ability just waiting to be used, instead of being triggered by rage/strategy. I hope for FF10-style Limit Break system where the gauge would fill depending on either how you set it to fill, i.e. curing, taking dmg, dealing dmg (more like FF10) or have that simply based on the job (whms fill by curing, plds by taking dmg, etc.)

Somebody cruelly, but accurately, observed that once FFXIV comes out, BlueGartr becomes irrelevant. All the skills people have developed in XI won't matter because the gameplay will be different. No matter how much someone has perfected gear-swapping macros, it may well not matter in XIV. A lot of what you see in this thread is people not wanting to have to start at the same level as the first-time MMO player.

I get your point but a first time MMO won't get how to interact with other plays, i remember the x360 n00bs that had no idea how to play with other players. Also while you say BG will be come irrelevant it will still be a place for people to share idea and information knowing of sites like BG will give a slight advantage over total n00bs. Personally i think it will be interesting to see how many people burn out on the beta and don't make it to release because they dont want to have to level again.

That jester idea would be solid, only if they let you wear those awesome hats.

I just hope they don't have the same hnm system as XI 21-24 hour waiting periods got old after 4 years of sitting in aery On a slightly different note, I hope they keep the same lethargic battle system they had in XI, it's more enjoyable then the button mashing systems like aion/wow, just sayin.

Non-instanced bosses certainly have an excitement that instanced bosses lack and I'd still like to see them in 14 - you're right though, having such a small predictable window again would be quite dull. I think WoW's outdoor raid bosses (and later FFXI's CoP dragons) had a nice thing going on. You couldn't really camp them because their respawn times were so wide.

I hope they keep the idea of skillchains alive (NOT aion's chains), that really brought a sense of basic teamwork to the game. But with it they need to make the SC's have some logic to them instead having to rely on a SC chart to know what makes what.

EDIT: OH, and please for the love of god i hope they bring 24/7 customer service to the game. weekends off is bs in an mmo.

I really liked how things in FFXI were not immediately know.
    Level Sync - Yes Please.

I don't like how if you had a high craft and would still break lower level synths.
    Aery 2.0 - Don't want.

    1. More roaming xp party/events like salvage, but without the strict limitations on gear/time. I dont want to camp at the same spot every evening for x number of levels.

    2. Would be nice if there were more puzzle elements to dungeons as well.

    3. I dont want my mages to die in one hit and be near useless with weapons.

    4. Expansion of mog house ideas. Can we have LS-mog houses pls, or LS-airships etc. Basically I want more to do with my LS than just a "chat room".

That just struck me as a very good idea. A frat house where everyone's mog is connected, you walk down the hallway and and see each persons room or maybe just a display outside of their room.

    very refreshing thought

From what I'm hearing, you can't switch weapons during battles, only in between fights. Whether this applies to armor swaps as well, could mean the end of macro swapping equipment and just generally wearing a set of equipment that actually works in both overtime damage/capability and burst damage
