*Takes Notes* Getting Wasted and randomly lucking into something is doing it right.

I wonder if Rose Garden is better now that places are deserted... In an active game requiring a mob to remain untouched for more than 1hr is not going to happen, let alone 12 18 or 24 hours.

I have said it before and I'll reiterate, I'm waiting for FFXI to blow my expectations and make an amazing game.

If it was a feature of the game, you'd quickly learn to check.

As said, I was 1/3 on that mob. I killed it a total of maybe 10 times (always looked for it when passing its spot anyways), just told LS buddys to OP warp, join party and wait for the kill.

My point is, this NM was pretty much uncampable, because you never knew when it was touched the last time. I totally hate camping. If your strategy to that mob was sitting around for hours in one place, that sounds pretty boring and dumb for me.

Sometimes, not wanting something RIGHT NOW ON A SILVER PLATTER might be the better strategy.

/edit: on my last ffxi days, it was pretty much up all the time, because level sync killed the jungle player population.

Since your wording your arguments as personal attacks I guess I'll continue the topic, but please dont stretch this into the quote war in the other as it was pretty terrible, and these forums are FF14. *this is a request to take it to PMs if you wish to respond* btw, you seem like a nice guy, but you might not understand where i am coming from, which i detail soon

The entire game is putting effort into obtaining items. IF you want something ra/ex, you have to camp it. If this means a PH needs to be killed, then you kill the PH, you dont just check it once a week and hope someone else did the work for you. (This is the opposite of silver platter theory above...) If the mob is a 2hr on the spot repop, you either afk for 1hr 59 minutes, or you go have fun and return to the zone on time. Your not sitting at your computer staring at the screen being boring and dumb (your words from above, yes you were slipping in personal attacks).

Now, specifically for Rose Garden, one mob must not be touched in ANY way for 10 hours. Oddly enough for someone who camped this ~10 times you never noticed that even if it chased someone it would depop, it was the nature of the mob. so targeting the mob would let you know when you came back if it had depopped or not (if you come back and its not targeted it depoped). Now, Most people have a job and/or sleep AND usually these events take 7-12 hours... As you can see it is very possible to AFK for 10 hours and not be boring or dumb.

I understand you have a wonderful track record with this mob (I dont), but I want you to know where I'm coming from: I wanted this ring for my first job 40blm BACK in 2006/7 (it is a wonderful ring for a blm lvl 40), when people were very actively playing the game. the mob NEVER went untouched. someone was always agroing it as they ran between camps or killing it solo or just when it agroed them. Unfortuntaly, this ring really isnt worth your time at lvl 75 in 2009/10 (which is why i havent gone back so I can't confirm how easy it pops now)

The reason a 10 hour 'don't touch me' marathon will not work for FF14 is because when 14 is released, surprisingly, people will be playing it. I imagine it will be pretty active, just as FF11 was in its release. And the same scenario will present itself. A mob just simply is not going to be completely ignored for 10 hours at a time.

Although, I think I will pay him a visit and see if he is up, 2010/dead game syndrome might mean I can get lucky... And occasionally I enter capped areas.

Aw, sorry, sometimes I'm losing it.

To summarize: You don't like situations where other players can easily cockblock you. Understandable. Monopolizing sucks, so does annoying others.

I liked the fact that this mob was kinda unpredictable, so if you knew about it, you could check the spot and look for it. I was there often enough with no mob there, so there is some kind of effort. But it doesn't lock you to an n hours grid, you can do your checks any time you want.

Of course that's quite a lottery. So is claiming the NM in other situations or getting a Kraken drop from the BCNM. But IMO, that's a more interesting lottery than a blue Fate Sword drop from a trash mob.

/edit: add in the fact that it drops an item that's not bad, but not game breaking either.

If SE keeps NM's through guildleve's which i'm assuming are gonna work similar to how FF12's mark hunting system was then this game will already have a pwn endgame and the NM problems of the past will all be solved. I hope this is the way SE intends to do all NM's instead of random pops that can be botted or gilfarmer infested.

But I'm a jerk. If I checked somewhere and the NM wasn't up, I would kill any PH (or semi evolved monster) to fuck up the next person. I'm sure other would end up doing this as well.

And to be sincere, taking a long detour to check if something is up is generally unpleasant. Everything always take forever in mmo, we don't need something like this to waste even more time.

Doubtful, if it's a new avatar I'm still betting money on first they'll be excited then piss and moan at how much it sucks. Though I'm still praying the announcement is WoE being open.

Anyway, looking forward to update notes at the fanfest. Just to see what they're going to add outside of missions.

I'd like to keep the idea of something evolving into an NM (which wasn't my idea), and unmolested standard mobs getting a little bit tougher over time (which is my idea) separate.

My idea is that the progression from min to max followed by depop would be common (say over 50% of all the gobbies in a zone), so that parties would be encouraged to move away from their starting camp as they leveled and as XP started falling off. It would have nothing to do with PHs or NMs.

Unfortunately i bet youre 100% dead on.

Whenever I leveled I always tried to level in obscure spots, just to make things more fun. I even made a party one day that XP'd on Porgo Isle in Bibiki Bay for shits and giggles, and it turned out to be amazing XP.
Yeah, and it seemed like a lot of times the reason why XP would be so great for those obscure camps, atleast for me, was that no one wasn't any sharing of the mobs.
