I'd give it a goddamn F too, 4 hours and no coffer key drop for the worst key in the game for the most pointless map in the game so I can't even continue with the missions to get my hat. ;<
Edit: Also the back/neck pieces that were introduced via keys are very lackluster compared to the ACP key rewards or even compared to existing items as a whole.
ACP: STR+5 ring (Free Triumph/Flame) or DEX+2 Acc+3 earring (Free Hollow) vs. MKD: Acc+1 Att+7 neck or STR+2 Att+13 mantle (both of which are generally useless).
Sounds about right to me. That would also be why I didn't buy it (fuck the hats).
Unlike ACP, the hats didnt really draw me to buy the content and everyones collective bitching about how annoying it is to complete the sidestory is probably why I havent gotten around to it.
I heard the last battle was fun though.
I don't even use my ACP body, and wasn't going to use this hat, either. So...didn't buy it before hand. Waited to see what the expansion was like and found out it was exactly like the last one...so, nope. Not touching it.
The third I will probably get simply because it's Shantotto. She'll blow us all up if we don't buy it.
What? Everyone isnt really happy with the shit SE has been spoon feeding us?
Neo was right?
Who would have guessed. Oh me. Thats right.
Wont be buying the 3rd trash "add on" either.
I'm rather surprised at how open and vehement the bashing is. Often, when reviewers need to give a negative review to something by a big company, there's a certain amount of circumlocution and use of code-words to let gamers know it sucks without sounding too harsh to the ears of casual readers (and management).
Maybe I'm the only one here who enjoyed the new pack? Moogles are badass and the Moogle Mafia only emphasizes that. The new hat is my SCH's best DMG nuking hat and it's shaped like the one Mickey Mouse wears. The key farming at Quicksand Caves wasn't that bad. It took 5hrs, and I went a little crazy before getting my key (Training packs of Antlions and killing them one by one), but that's the spirit of FFXI. The only problem I had with this pack was that they made the farming too easy. If they're going to make the drop rate so minuscule, they should at least make it come off tougher mobs. Tougher drop rates should be associated with tougher mobs! Hopefully the next pack has you farming Wyverns at Ifrit's Cauldron so it's more of a challenge (This is an EG event after all, why is it so easy?).
They better not fuck up Shantotto's scenario.
They just better not.
Sadly I feel it will probably follow the same fail formula as the last 2. I did think MKD's story had potential to be really cute but the plot was ultimately boring =( I didn't even like the final fight, it struck me more as spammy than challenging.
It's pretty much guaranteed to be retarded too, sadly.
A Moogle Kupo d'Hat.
+25 WS accuracy, you guys.
That's 40 cents/ACC.
Aha. Mr. Vassar has pinpointed the reason for the abnormal terribleness of these quests:
An explanation is comforting. It's cold comfort, but comfort nonetheless.last December, the game's directorship bragged about having secured one of the game's original scenario writers, Masato Kato. Unfortunately, along with Mr. Kato's purported storytelling ability comes his circa 2002 quest-design sensibilities -- nonsensical fetch quests, competing for monster spawns, and endless running around in long-abandoned areas of Vana'diel. As common as all of these things are to the MMO genre, Final Fantasy XI's quests have actually come a long way, in both story and overall quest creativity, since Mr. Kato left Square Enix -- which is a big part why these new scenarios grate so.
Unless you absolutely want to have the final custom reward the best part of these add-ons is freely viewable on Youtube. Otherwise save yourself a little money and a bit of your lifespan and snub them.
Kimiko why must you constantly make threads when your boyfriend makes yet another stupid 1up blog post?
Can't help but feel you're being a bit sarcastic in the rest of your post - and if so, that breeze feels wonderful - but I enjoyed it on the whole. I found it light-hearted, funny, and liked that it used different things in the game (HELM, digging) for us to "get stuff" to progress rather than just killing mobs after killing mobs (though yes, the first quest had me thinking "oh god, not this again", and the rate on key items for the HELM quest was just retarded). It had flaws, but taken as a whole, I liked it. I'm sure someone will lay into me for that, and say my standards are just that low or I'm a rabid fan-boy or whatever, but ho hum. I was so disapointed with ACP that I seriously considered quitting, but MKDE I liked.
I'm hoping Shantotto's one at least lets people get Haste+4% gloves. The QQing here will be legendary.
I wonder if what they're deciding for rewards has to do with past Missions/Quests?

I'm more shocked that 1up is still around. All these mini expansions suck. Stupid quests, drop rates etc.
