Aion: Random Question Thread

Can anyone give me a quick overview of the item system / crafting system in aion?

I just recently ordered it (should get here in a few days) and have been researching various information about the game.

Feel free to compare it to wow or ffxi, played both.

AION has no built in parser BUT there are some third party ones. But not sure what they're called or where to get em.

leveling is mostly done by "work orders", which are quests where a npc gives you some mats and tells you to make him some stuff.

then you get a quest to become an "expert", which is a tremendous money sink; the craft costs a lot each attempt, NQ results are worth dick, and you don't get to keep the HQ result.

after you are an expert you get no more work orders and have to sink even more money on refining the body parts of balaur into usable crafting mats. for some professions, these sell for a profit. on others, they sell for a massive loss.


making equipment is fairly straightforward except that all equipment recipes of the same grade, type, and level require the same "flux", which is a rare drop from mobs. consumables don't require fluxes.

in reality, crafting is rarely practical. crafted gear is, at best, as good as gear acquired elsewhere and since NCwest has started banning RMTs, fluxes have gotten so expensive that crafting equipment has already reached HQ-or-lose-a-ton-of-money status.

keep in mind this is for elyos: where should i level 40+? how long will duoing/soloing KHQ/LC elites last? what is there to do after that? are steelrake and any other high level instances good for exp or are they more like FT which is just drops? also i see a lot of youtube videos of clerics soloing balaur in draupnir for good exp. is it relatively swarming with asmos exping during peak times? and would it be worth making a MB build to solo elites faster using kiting rather than straight tanking?

Steel Rake, Upper Layer Abyss, Theobomos. Steel rake is decent cash and exp, even moreso once you start doing the repeatables for gold gear. Once you can grind in theobomos, shit turns on easy mode: harpies, tigrics and calydons for great exp if you can kill them fast enough.

Does damage reduction on shield have a cap? I was thinking about +10'ing the 30 abyss gold shield, 45% + 4% pvp + 20% for the 10 enchant for damn near 70% reduction would be so fucking hot for pvp.

Steel Rake is pretty much all elites (it's an instance). Upper Abyss has elites, but you're probably going to want to stick to non-elites. And I play an Asmodian, so I can't say for sure, but if Theobomos is anything like Brusthonin there are no elites at all aside from rare spawns.

as a cleric I duo'd with an assa in storm circle for really high exp at this level. Just prepare to get killed by a random group of 50 asmos every 2 hours or so


also, is there any way to add a shortcut to open memo pad ?

I want to get the Level 30 Daevonian Armor, but I'm afraid that it will take WAY too long. Is the set really worth it? What's the best way to go about it if you decide to go get it?

Also, is there any way to :

1. Auto-accept or otherwise press a key to accept in an open window? I get tired of having to mouse over to click "accept" when doing quests and work orders.

2. Close all open windows at once?

Tbh, no it's not worth it, just focus on one character.

I'd only suggest doing the daeva set if you have alt-itis AND you're going to level ranger/assassin as the crit bonus is pretty nice.

Is there a way for a EU person to make a NA account? A friend of mine wants to play with me but she lives in UK and it wasn't giving her an option to make a NA account.

I know you can go to File>Settings and change your game to North American but then it makes you download the NA version of the game and you'd need a NA account to log in (I assume), which then you wouldn't be able to log into your EU account, too much hassle tbh.
