Not looking at the difficulty in obtaining the gears, of the Fenris(/mirage) cloth and elite abyss lv 50 gold set, which is better for pvp? the elite lv50 abyss set for the bonuses? How about for pve?

All I can say is don't rush and you'll enjoy the game a lot more. And try to get the Spy quests done as early as you can, once you start getting locked out of rifts due to your level it gets ugly.

there's stuff to do at 50, its just a matter of what you want to do.

i've heard different things about how high someone can be before things start dropping. mostly i hear +10 but i've heard only +5 above kromede for her weapons. anyone know for sure?

It's 10 levels on everything, lvl 39 mob = lvl 49 will stop it dropping loot.

I honestly think there's some kind of multiplier involved with level gaps, though. When I first started farming Lepharists around 37 for the quested accessories, I was getting a modest flow of recipes, green manastones, and even the occasional white on top of the cash drops. Random questing or KHQing aside, I was pretty much there until 41, selling off excess insignia since it was decent money along with leveling pace. After that, though, most of the normals were 3-4 levels under me a 2 hour session could maybe see one drop.

I've also suspected there might be a party multiplier for loot chance, as the times I've grouped for random farming it felt like more things were dropping. Mere conjecture, though, and could've simply been dumb luck in the half dozen times or so this took place.

i've noticed the same thing, just wondering if it would be worth it to solo ft on cleric and extract kromede weapons should they drop

When I did Steel Rake with a 49 as the highest level in the group, the (Lv.40) chests dropped nothing.

If you're 10 levels over the enemy nothing drops (level 50 in SR for example, and the chests will drop nothing even if the level 50 is waiting outside SR, he needs to leave group)

I am also almost 100% sure if you are too high level (level 50 is SR on level 41 elites for example) drop rates are lowered a lot. With a group level 42-44 in SR you get kinah from every single elite whereas with a level 50 in group you get it on maybe a third of them. Also most of the time you'll get only a manastone or even nothing (not even grey stuff).

I have no idea what the exact formula is though, but I would love to have it.

(however with only a 49 with group the no drop from chest in only bad luck, I think)

^Well, that answers my question regarding a spell for my BLM, curse of roots. Btw, is that an absolute necessity? I've been farming it for days (as in half an hour here and there) and haven't seen it yet.

Also, any tips for PvP as BLM? I was messing around the Abyss and got ambushed. Got my shit back together and countered/kept my distance. Unfortunately, most of my spells got resisted and inflicted minor dmg, not enough to warrant a Mexican stand off. Was able to land sleep which bought me enough time to gtfo.

I'm also giving RNG a try, which is basically the physical counterpart of BLM. ;x

Would probably say Curse of Roots is needed if you plan on partying. If you're just gonna solo grind, you can probably get away without it until 50, at which point you'll probably want to be grouping anyway toward stuff. Without it, you can't really handle 2 mobs and sometimes pulls will inevitably be 3 or more.

Question for Asmos

IS it actually possible to do the lv 43 gold spy weapon quest during day/night? (aka between 6PM EST and 11h30 PM EST?

or is it really hard wiht all those elyos?

Don't see why not if you have a group. That village isn't a terribly large quest hub despite the few it has, but realistically, the biggest threat is one person seeing you, pointing you out on the public channels, and then others actually caring to respond. The fact it has a flight path just shortens the response time slightly.

There are usually elyos around storm circle because of the world bosses, the aether gathering and people outside J-village gathering griffonia and perer ( two most in demand gatherables ).

Simply put - you will get rolled a few times doing it, but if you kisk somewhere smart you can get it done anytime of day - the best time to do it is probably @ the evening dredgion/fort timer so as many high levels are out of the way as possible.

I've never seen an asmo group have trouble, either. I can think of a far better place to gather Griffonia, too. As is, a couple Elyos gathering aether are unlikely to be coordinated enough to take on a roaming group, so it becomes a matter of whether or not help comes, and it's unlikely since the Asmo can hide by Bolvig and his flunkies. Was pretty much under the impression those mobs really aren't worth killing, either, but in the odd event they are, it's not like people sit and camp en masse like FFXI.

But this is pretty much speaking of Kaisinel, so mileage may vary.
