How cynical of you. while I personally wouldn't be surprised if it was watered down we'll see what happens. Although not sure how this healthcare bill would have any "Pork" in it.

Man where to start with this..

Career politican.. really? The man barely 10 years of elected political experience in his 48 years. His career was in community organization, and I imagine he only went into the IL state legislature as an extension of that mission.

And if a bill is produced that is either of those things, I expect Obama to veto it since it doesn't meet the conditions he laid out.

Okay I need to address something here. So for a few moments...

Can we take a break from calling people Nazis? Thanks.

I think end-of-life counseling is actually a good thing because I know I'm not the only person out there who has a severe anxiety about death. I don't usually share this with other people.. because it scares the fuck out of me to even think about it, but it makes me feel better to at least talk about it with someone. I have to admit I don't think I'll ever be able to face the moment it finally comes for me. But maybe though discussing it with someone else I and others could.

I give the Republicans credit for thinking about the subject in 2003, and I give them credit for it now (since it was a Republican who thought to put this item into the debate). The uproar and distortions that have come up in regards to it are a real shame, and I imagine some of the people out there who are riled up on the whole "death panel" misinformation are people like myself who have end-of-life anxiety.

Caving in to republican pressure would be political suicide. I see a rephrasing in the future by the press secretary in the morning.

Caving in to Republicans is the Democrats' raison d'être.

Your level of fear for death sounds irrational. Maybe you should try seeing a psychiatrist about it.

Or that stimulus bill that they watered down and the republicans still voted against it. Or that cap and trade bill they watered down and the republicans still voted against it. Or that asistence to home owners they watered down and the republicans still voted against it (i think).

    I think i'm seeing a pattern here.

Kuya is right. Unless they are getting backstabbed (ala Blue Dogs), the Democrats need to realize they have a 2 (now 1.5) year window in which they can enact the plan that they actually want, and take advantage of that. There is -no point- to giving the Republicans -any- voice or clout at the moment - the Republicans don't have a plan, they don't have an agenda, other than "oppose everything Obama is trying to accomplish regardless of merit as hard as possible to improve chances in 2010". That's it.

Actually, fear and anxiety over one's death is pretty rational, but it usually happens at a much older age. In effect, not thinking about one's inevitable demise is more of a characteristic of the inmature. Of teenagers. The point is to get over it eventually. You most certainly don't need a psychiatrist, you'd need a therapist but only if it actually got in the way of your usual routine in life.

Pretty sure the common pattern is:

Early Childhood: Very little fear of death (don't have a solid grasp on it.)
Teens: Fear of death develops, but then subsides eventually.
Middle Aged: Fear of death returns and it is stronger than before.
Final years of life: Fear of death may dissipate entirely. ("Acceptance" or whatever. It is based on how well you lived your life. Cowardly folk will probably die miserably.)

EDIT: Then again there is always memento mori.
