Get one through your bank. I did that to build initial credit.

Yes, since most will probably turn you down. Your bank can give you one if you agree to let them "secure" it with some money from you, usually 100 dollars or so to cover their own ass if you decide to use the card and run lol. After about a year, you get the money back if you make your payments as agreed. Chances are that the card will have a low limit and high interest rate, so it's in your best interest to make the payment before the grace period

Well I don't plan on charging $2000 multiple times. It's a one time thing. I see it as a loan with 6 months of deferred interest. I don't really plan on charging anything else on the card until that original balance is paid off.

If anything you should save your card for emergencies and gas. Gas is a great way to build credit because you can use the card to fill your tank up, and then just pay the balance off right after. Every time you pay the balance off (quickly) your credit goes up.

Have you tried capital one cuz they srsly give credit cards to any one. You just need to make sure you have the minimum income which I think is like 1400 a month, and if you don't, go ahead and lie & say you do. It was my first cc when I had no credit history. They usually slap you with a card that has a shitty $300 limit but they'll raise your limit every so often supposing you pay your stuff on time & never go over. once you've built up a little credit you can start applying for other cards.

again, remember to over-exaggerate your income.

wondering why you are having a hard time getting one. have you tried applying to boa's student cc?

also have you ever actually looked at your credit score?

I know you've mentioned in the past of having a hard time getting one, which makes me wonder if there's a mistake on your record or something.

As a student with no credit you shouldn't be having this much trouble.

Yeah, I have tried Capital One 2x, different CC's. My income is around 1300 a month right now, during school 800. Although I put I make 25k a year.

Havent tried boa student CC. I actually have a freecreditreport.com account. My credit score is 0. But the score that tells u how much of a risk you are to CC companies is basically as high as you can go. A terrorist could get a better chance than me. I literally have no debt to my name, nor have I ever. I've paid off my college myself up to date, and phone bill always on time, insurance etc.... Unfortunately none of these said things are in my name. Here is a list of companies I have applied to in the past 6 months. I basically apply to a company, wait for a no, try another, no, another, rinse and repeat. I am 20, Have been doing this since 18, so I have hit well over 10 companies.

    Business Name CITIBANK SD (NA)

    Business Name PEOPLES BANK

Business Name CHASE BANK USA, NA

Business Name VERIZON WIRELESS-NN/SN VERIZON WIRELESS-NN/SN

Business Name BELL ATLANTIC MOBILE INC

Business Name CAPITAL ONE US CARD

Business Name CAPITAL ONE BANK USA NA

Hm, I guess the only difference between me and you is that I have deferred student loans (I heard that that can benefit your credit or your chances of getting a credit card? I dunno) and that this was the first credit card I ever applied for.

Right now I go to a community college. So I've been able to pay off my 2 years right now np. I'll be eventually getting a student loan in >1 year. But was hoping to get some sort of credit before I head off.

maybe actually having a loan will help as that in itself builds credit. I would try the boa one, but don't do it online. Actually go in and talk to a banker n' explain your situation.

BoA is heavy on pushing their employees to get cc sales, so they'll try to work it if they can.

you can open a free student checking account with boa and I'm sure they'll offer it. plus, you can make payments free of charge when you call customer service or online if you have a checking or savings account along with your card. you can even get overdraft protection, but don't do something dumb like set up automatic payments that pay from checking and not have that service.

you don't need any acc with boa to get their cc

[edit] in fact I can't think of a single bank that requires you to have products with them in order to have a cc. I've had chase forever and I only just got an acc with them last year when they bought out WAMU.

They never tried to get me to get an acc or any other product with them.

Try a store brand card, preferably someplace you would use it all the time (gas stations are great for this). Barring that, a secured visa (you make a decent sized cash deposit as collateral in case you default the account) is generally impossible to get turned down from.
