Then do it, faggots. Why don't you "defiantly" do it while you're at it.

I think you're missing the point. It is possible for one to care less, but they care SO LITTLE that it's not even worth their time to care less.
faggot
I always thought the point was sarcasm? Well either way, people who complain about the phrase "I could care less" annoy me.
I could care more about this shitty thread.
But alas, I do not.
same thing for regardless/irregardless
or when people point out it's actually "frankenstein's monster" and not just "frankenstein"
who gives a shit you pedantic fucks, language evolves
Ain't dat da truf
irregardless actually annoys me. i could give a fuck about the other ones
YOU MEAN YOU COULDN'T GIVE A FUCK
BECAUSE
YOU SEE
IT MEANS YOU COULDN'T GIVE LESS OF A FUCK AND IF YOU SAID OTHERWISE THEN BLAH BLAH BLAH I'M AN ENGLISH MAJOR WITH NO FRIENDS
sup elphaba
you misread my post dummy
I didn't misread it... That word is pure evil. It's just like he who shall not be named. 'Tis the word which shall not be spoke/typed/written.
Could care less is an idiom at this point.
It really was Couldn't care less, but enough dumb fucks over the ages fucked it up to the point where it gained momentum to be accepted.
Common metaphors experience this a lot as they transition to Idioms. Idioms essentially work like a desktop shortcut to redirect to a completely separate target domain.
i.e. If people recognize an idiom, they typically do not actually parse the semantical meaning of the phrase, well metaphors have their own logic anyways, an idiom essentially bypasses this logic, skipping the initial domain and going directly to the target.
Because of this, people often make mistakes like "Could care less" "It's a mute point" , etc...etc...and the people they're speaking recognize them anyways.
Which eventually leads to dead idioms(similar to cranberry metaphors or affixes), where the original metaphor is completely lost to history, or at least absent from public conscience.
nah fuck that, I'd punch someone in the mouth if they said mute point in front of me
I don't care how popular it is, it still irks me when someone says could care less.
pretty sure language never evolves enough to allow you to mistake the identities of literary characters in some acceptable way. for those of us who actually read the book (it's a fucking high school reading project for shit's sake; this is not high brow material) and took away some knowledge about each of the characters, it's initially confusing to see that thrown around and really annoying to have to use context clues to decipher the meaning of some idiot's fucked-up speech.
seriously, i don't speak retard. when people misspell incredibly badly or use words incorrectly/use an incorrect word for whatever they're trying to say, i actually read it wrong, don't get the information they intended to convey, and then i have to go back and try to figure out what the fuck they actually meant. it fucks with my ability to even listen to people. some offenses are more egregious than others; i can understand you meant to say "regardless" even though you said "irregardless," and i will probably get your point but then i will pretty much assign it zero validity because you're a dumbass.
