FFXI does do some story elements better than WoW does. The cutscenes that put your character in them is certainly more immersive. The RP events in WoW don't quite cut it to that end. The come close in some instances, like the Kael'Thas encounter + subsequent event in Shattrath, but those are pretty few and far between. I do really want more of that 'hey I'm in this cutscene' feeling back.
I'm thinking they will definitely pack those 5 levels with more "Battle for Undercity" type shit.
There is a lot of it in the quest text, which nobody ever reads. Also consider that war1/2/3 all set the story too.
WoW's story is way deeper than FFXI's, it's just a whole lot easier to get through the game without noticing it. It definitely doesn't have the direct involvement aspect like FFXI, preferring to focus more on the getting there and killing random supermonsters than the build up and actual focus on story. The Dragonblight cutscene was one of the highlights of WotLK for me (even though it's retarded as shit that they killed him... he better be back as a dk boss in IC or some shit...), bringing back memories of Bahamut showing up and trying to nuke the shit out of airships etc.
Anyway yeah, WoW's story is there, it's just way less in your face.
It's reeeeeally easy to end up spending hours and hours on wowwiki going through the background stuff... sometimes too easy. >.>
Although it's out of date, the official lore site is even more engrossing
WoW -> Info -> Story
Wrathgate and the subsequent Battle for Undercity quest are still the best thing about the expansion to me personally. I have no words for how much I absolutely love and nerded out during the cutscene and the quest. By far and away the coolest thing in that game. I love my faction leaders though, so that probably played a big role in it for me. If the new expansion has quests like that throughout then it can do no wrong, and if it's 5 levels of crazy epic quests like that...I'd be ridiculously happy.
Blizz needs to take a page from SE and make it so you can revisit those quests after you complete them. 3.2 added voice acting to the Battle for Undercity and all its preliminary quests after wrathgate.
It's called leveling alts

From official website.
guess it's true then![]()
It seems most of it was true, at least.
I'm curious about Achaeology and the new character progression system.
Watching stream, it is true. Saw Tauren Paladin and something Gnome but it lagged out and I couldn't get a good look at it. Goblins = horde, worgen = alliance.
Was a gnome priest.
Some of the shit pisses me off (race class combos etc cairne lore), but some of it is really impressive and awesome.
For some reason, I'm reminded of 10.5 just seeing the old world changed.
"But some of the info is from SA, it can't possibly be true! MMO-Champion is wrong!"
Oh, and this actually does look really cool.
There's a World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - FAQ that opened today, which shows the class combos. Worgen and goblins get most of them, missing two each and the regular races all get at least 1-2 new classes. Undead Hunter, anyone?

Edit: There we go.
