i enjoy the wow story, i've enjoyed the warcraft stories since the first one came out, but stories progress just because they are changing the story today doesn't mean the story of then isn't what it was.

There's nothing wrong with the evolution of a story, and it will evolve in anything like an MMO. What I hate is when Metzen just comes out with some random shit because "It's cool" like Night Elves being able to suddenly using arcane magic. With no reasoning behind them just saying "Eh it was a neat idea at one of our meetings."

I think what got a lot of the original customers to buy into WoW was the story and lore of the past games translated into a game you can live within and see things you only saw in missions previously. Now since WoTLK they seem to have forgotten what started the game, and are going doing an about face.

Uhh, they're already putting in actual reasoning behind night elf mages in the game. The Highborne are coming back, some of the original arcane magic users on Azeroth.

Everyone seems to forgot about the Highborne tidbit quest on PTR that is coming soon. Only questionable one is Dwarf Shamans where I think they said they learned from the Dranei, but what happened to Wildhammer dwarves?

I'll ask again... Did they ever say if they were doing anything with Quel'thalas/Azuremyst?

It would seem extremely tacky of them to just leave them both untouched by this allegedly huge catastrophe.

They mentioned Quel'Thalas will be affected but the Draenei island maps are green zones which means there will be no landscaping change.

Yep, it took me a bit of pondering on this too, but I think it's for the better. It seems more realistic to me that the different race ideals and personal beliefs are translating into actual class changes. It never seemed right to me that I could never find any Tauren who didn't believe in the Light, for example. They are supposed to be known for their spirituality, so much so that they overcame NE prejudices to form Moonglade with them. Why wouldn't a few of them be interested in learning about the Light, and like what they saw?

Likewise, with incredibly wise Orcs like Thrall around and them being buddies with Trolls, why couldn't a few learn to be Mages from them?

Why couldn't a few Gnomes who are spending all of their time with the Dwarves learn about being Priests?

I was arguing about how impossible it would be for the current Goblins to join the Horde earlier in the year, and they just went and made a new faction of them from an island nation with a different situation from the Cartel. Clearly there are plenty of viable class combinations, we just haven't been able to play them until now. They'll be explained.

Most people don't realize that 60% of the original highborn turned into naga, 30% became the blood elves,6% turned into satyr and the remaining 4% are scattered across the world, a good 3% of that holed up within Dire Maul.

But I don't mind, I doubt there will be that many night elf mages anyway, especially with the possibility of Worgen mages.

Thrall being captured by the alliance is interesting. I wonder how the hell that happens or if he lets it happen so that he can step down from the horde with ease to focus on something else?

Thrall forgot he was super powerful so he just let it happen, duh. Damn those Stormwind Guards!

Actually if anything I think he would refuse to fight them, what witch the apocalypse neigh and all, and allows them to capture him in a attempt to speak with Varian.

It just unhinges any immersion when the story goes from having a well written background to being "lulz flying spaceship goats and pew pew snowball lasers".
late reply but i've played God of War without the story.

    It's called dynasty warriors.

You mean the highborne who were cursed to become Naga, or the Bloodelves? Nightelves swore off the ability to use arcane because they saw what it did.

There's nothing wrong with a story progressing, there is something wrong when that story progresses as WoW is now. Where Metzen just comes up with shit he thinks is cool, adds it in, then later says "Yeah my bad, that doesnt make sense in terms of everything ive said...but we're using it anyways". It comes off as a cheesy hollywood production where events occur just because it's convenient.

With Patch 3.2.2 Blizzard introduced a new Alliance quest near the portals in the Silver Enclave. Something urgent has made the Highborne leave the walls of Eldre’Thalas to seek audience with High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind.[6]
    A cautionous return

Daros Moonlance says: A moment of your time.
Daros Moonlance says: Change is coming. It has drawn us out of the ruins of Eldre’Thalas and into the wide world once more. I have come to research this city and cannot stray from it, but if you are inclined, I have an errand for you.
Daros Moonlance says: My collegue set out for Darnassus to speak with the High Priestess there, that we might come to an understanding. Take this journal to Mordent Evenshade in the temple. It may help in his diplomacy mission.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: I suppose I should not be surprised at this cold reception. We have long been in hiding, and the separation from our brethren was necessary.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: That time, however, is done. Whether the residents of this young tree come to accept us or not, the Highborne are returning to light, and we wil not turn our backs on what we are.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: It seems I have time to talk. What is this regarding?

    Daros’ Journal
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: Ah, the writings of Daros. He always was meticulous about tracking progress. His words may aid in explaining how far we’ve come.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: You have my thanks for bringing this to me. Perhaps we will see more of each other once it is understood we mean no harm.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: Sentinel, I would speak with your High Priestess.
Sentinel Stillbough says: You must wait for an audience.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: Must I? I doubt Tyrande has more pressing business.
Sentinel Stillbough says: You show some nerve coming to Teldrassil, Highborne. Your kind are unwelcome here. We have not forgotten the War of the Ancients or the minds behind it.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: The lure of power is great. Mistakes were made.
Sentinel Stillbough says: And we would not see those mistakes repeated. Return to your exile.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: I will not return until I am heard. There is too much at stake. There is a change on the wind, and we cannot ignore it. I have traveled from the dust and ruin of the past to come to an accord. The time may soon come when the kal’dorei require the knowledge and skill we have to offer. I will wait, Sentinel... but I will have my audience.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade looks over at the moonwell with a sigh.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: Calm yourself, Sentinel. I do not seek to use it. I am merely... remembering.
Sentinel Stillbough says: Recalling your treachery?
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: Enough. I have been apart from this for centuries. The well within this temple may be a pale spectre of the Well of Eternity, but it still holds the same... beauty. Purity.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: I had forgotten.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: I do not believe admiration and wistful thoughs are against the societal norm.
Sentinel Stillbough says: Watch yourself, Highborne.
Archmage Mordent Evenshade says: You were the one who challenged me for merely looking. I still await my audience with Tyrande.
Sentinel Stillbough says: In good time.

The following text appears in the gossip panel when you click on Archmage Mordent Evenshade <The Highborne>:

I suppose I should not surprised at this cold reception. We have long been in hiding, and the separation from our brethren was necessary.

That time, however, is done. Whether the residents of this young tree come to accept us or not, the Highborne are returning to light, and we will not turn our backs on what we are.
