You guys are hilarious, blowing everything I say out of proportion. I listed at least half the reasons why the alleged story is garbage, and no one touched them. This is what happens when you criticize something, though, all the fanboys come out and rage at you.
I didn't know you're the only one who 'knows' the story. And the one getting most butthurt about these new changes. Why the fuck would the developers stick with the Warcraft III lore, to the extreme that you want, when probably 50% or more never even played WCIII.

It's all about the money. You aren't happy for this expansion because it doesn't follow YOUR idea of what WoW should be, it sounds more like your the raging fanboy.

Boubouille now states that his information...

Again, this isn't confirmed by Blizzard yet but I really do not doubt most of my information at this point. Let's say that ... at least 90% of it should be accurate, I just couldn't get the Thrall/Garrosh thing 100% confirmed, even if it's very very likely.

I think the comic is one of the places you can learn about Varian Wrynn's escape from captivity and return to Stormwind, so there is definitely some canonization of what goes on in there. If the comic says Cho'gall is back then he's back. If the comic resurrects the council of Tirisfal then it's back.

For those who are upset. This is just another one of Warcraft's many evolutions.

Anyway one more day. Any last speculations/thoughts/hopes/dreams for the expansion before it's laid out before us tomorrow? I'm excited for it, just not too hyped over the worgen/goblin idea so I hope that's out. I loved how when Draenei were introduced (for me atleast) I had no clue what they were and I was intrigued, and I hope the new race or class introduction is like that and makes me feel the same way.
I recently quit. Does that mean I have to lose all interest in WoW's story?

Also, Varian's entire storyline came from the comics. As did Ashbringer. And the War of the Ancients, which events in Maelstrom will be based around... Lor'themar's leadership of the Blood elves... Rhonin and Vereesa... a significant amount of WoW is based off what happens in the shitty comics. lol

I wasn't the one raging at all. I was pointing out all the wtf's in MMO-Champion's alleged expansion storyline, and how retarded it would be for Blizzard to use it. Until Arvin came in and was all witty with his Dawson's Creek or whatever crying picture and being an idiot in general. So sorry I actually paid attention during WCII/WCIII/WoW! You know, I know how to read, and occasionally utilize it to make sense of quests and the general direction of the game. Sorry if the task is too monumental for you, Arvin.

WoW wouldn't be here without WCII or WCIII, so yeah, I think it's pretty important that they don't 100% contradict everything. Retcons shouldn't be used 150 times in an expansion. And thus far, they haven't been. Sorry if all of you would be okay with Illidan mentoring frost wyrms in the ways of druidism or something. Clearly epics and oranges are the only things that matter in a game based off, you know, a storyline. I apologize for insulting the supplier of your addiction. rofl

I'm still confused where you're even seeing retcons in this alleged storyline; it's not like they're taking some absolute fact (Hint: character personalities and political standings are not fact) and doing a 180 on it. Sure they're turning the story upside down from what it currently is, but you know, major disasters tend to do things like that. Once upon a time orcs and humans would have cut eachother down at the first sight of the other, but now we have both parties working in tandem. Is that a retcon too?

Night elf mages. Tauren paladins. Draenei warlocks. Orc mages.

Thrall becoming Guardian of Tirisfal. Deus ex machina. This is a complete 180 on Thrall's character. He obviously wants peace, but he's also staunchly loyal to the Horde. He wouldn't give control to Garrosh, who subsequently murders his best friend.

Thrall handing over the horde to Garrosh? WHAT? Lazy excuse to reinstate the war into warcraft. Couldn't think of a credible way, Blizz?

Night elves fucking despise the arcane, to the point where they exiled half their race for using it. Suddenly, after 10,000 years of hating it, they're all OMG GUYZ ARCANE IZ COOL? Ummmm no.

Tauren paladins - I don't even know what to say, this is such a huge wtf. At least Blood Elven paladins were believable.

Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms being destroyed - wut. Don't the adventurers usually stop catastrophes like that?

    All of those are 180's.

    All of those are 180's.
Kalimdor/EK getting their landscapes worked is not a 180, considering both are products of The Sundering in the first place, it would take a resurrected Azshara do cause similar devastation a second time.

Bloodhoof getting murdered is not a 180 if Garrosh kills him, because Garrosh is a bloodthirsty idiot. It runs in the family. But Thrall is good at forgiving the Hellscreams who have such tendencies. He presumably wants a leader capable of fighting against a resurrected head(s) of the traitor clans in Cho'gall. Are you expecting Thrall to have Garrosh killed? He didn't even kill Grom when he had the warsong drink Mannoroth's blood a second time. That's about as big a betrayal as they come.

As far as Thrall becoming a new kind of Guardian of Tirisfal, it is weird but really without a lot of details on the circumstances it's hard to say just how hard a 180 "OK GUYZ IM DA NEW GUARDIAN GARROSH PLS LET THE DOG OUT TO PEE EVERY NITE K? LMAO LATER HORDE" it will be. Med'an is the son of the last guardian, has Orc heritage and is protected at Theramore sounds like a good place to start.

Night Elf Mage - The Keldorei-turned-Night Elf abolished the use of arcane magics after the Sundering and subsequent adoption of druidic ways; they were afraid of repeating the same mistake. As a race, it's not a matter of can't, but rather won't. Heaven only knows why they would change their minds, but again, this isn't factual impossibility, but rather theopolitical restructuring; entirely plausible in the realm of open-book storytelling.

Tauren Paladin - I don't really see the problem here, your race doesn't really preclude you from a way of life (with the exception of Forsaken maybe, but even that could be plausible with the fact that Blood Elf Paladin is based on vengeance, and not holy sanctimony from a lore perspective; the spells still overlap of course, you can't really rename/redesign them all)

Draenai Warlock/Orc Mage - Really don't see the problem here, both are already well versed in means supernatural. Draenai aren't Naaru, there's not really a problem with them taking up with the dark side.

Thrall being Guardian - Yeah ok it's a deus ex machina, what do you want? You almost have to have one in a fantastical story like this. You could even say that you the player are a deus ex machina in some ways. It certainly doesn't create any kind of conflict of interest though, as people change with time. Thrall's naievete when he started the New Horde was insane. As time goes on, he grows stronger and wiser. It's not an inconceivable idea that he would come to realize that the world once again needs a centralized guiding light to keep moving forward, especially if the events of the Cataclysm go down as described.

Handing over to Garrosh - Ehh. This is probably blood loyalty more than anything else. Depending on how things play out into the invasion of Icecrown, this may seem more plausible; Garrosh might achieve some epiphany that really changes the way he perceives things. Or maybe Thrall will realize the Horde needs some aggression in its leadership, and he'll be the mediator to keep it from getting out of hand. It's probably not my first choice either based on what I know *right now*, but there's still a significant amount of Northrend's drama yet to take the stage.

So yeah, it's different, but none of it contradicts something that would otherwise be considered hard fact.

All these changes could be a "what if" scenario we step through a portal to or something. The cataclysm could be us stepping through a portal to how things would be if x event did/did'nt occur. It would explain all the weirdness in the lore.

I think that would be much cooler actually. I mean, apparently Deathwing is going to be one of the main bosses in cataclysm so maybe he is seriously fucking up everything. If the night elves never forsook magic perhaps they caused a second sundering resulting in the world being reshaped. Thall leaving the horde would make much more sense in bazzaro world where Deathwing is having his way and everything is falling to pieces.Perhaps the tampering with the time lines results in a parallel world crashing into Azeroth and things from each spilling into each other.

Spoilering this since it's more of an "OH SHIT" discovery when you find it out from quests:

    Spoiler: show
Not to mention, we know now that Anachronos is responsible for the Infinite Dragonflight...god only knows what kind of effects that may have in the long run, or what other events he may interfere with that we haven't learned of yet. Anachronos himself may be turning insane, which might facilitate the kind of wonton destruction that's potentially at large here.

    Spoiler: show

It wasn't Anachronos revealed in that questline, it was Nozdormu.

Oh god I hope the Infinite Dragonflight thing dies...I never really liked their lack of sense in the greater parts of the lore. No reason for the Bronze Dragonflight to send folks back to Hyjal other than 'just do it!' Even if he has noble intentions "I'm just trying to stop Cataclysm!" having another dragonflight go nuts is just a little Oh Not This Shit Again, Blizzard.
