FFXI/Laptop/Nvidia/Vista Problem.

So my roommate wants to play FFXI with me. I'm not exactly sure what type of video card he has, but it's pretty high end. He bought his laptop for gaming and it was very expensive. It is a Nvidia however.

First, we run everything as admin, turn off UAC and download the Vista version of POL. FFXI now runs, but the graphics are complete shit and it's really choppy lag-wise.

Next, we get drivers recommended by SE from their site. Graphics improve, still laggy.

Next, I get OmegaDrivers for Nvidia because I remembered that is what I had to get for my Radeon for it to work many moons ago. No change, still laggy.

I know it's not the internet itself, because I'm on the same connection and I run fine.

I'm wondering what I forgot to do...Any suggestions?

For the actual gameplay, sorry, that's a come as you are basis. Some people have no trouble with one card and others can't get past an avatar summoning with the exact same card. I was one of the few lucky bastards that had no lag or texture issues with the nV 88 series. All I can tell you is to try as many drivers as you can for supporting that particular card and hope that one of them works.

Which Nvidia series is he using? Because I'm fairly sure that, bar some kind of freak accident, you're screwed no matter what using the 9 series with Vista.

Just because the laptop is expensive, doesn't necessarily mean its good.

Go to Device Manager or Display Properties and tell us what card he uses lol
