    FFXIV and Laptops

okay so I decided that I will be saving up my money for a new laptop instead of a new TV and PS3 and a netbook to have beside me while I play.

Who makes good Gaming laptops? and what is considered "better" in terms of specs so I know how to build my laptop.

I know we don't have specs for FFXIV, but I want a Gaming PC regardless so base it off high end games already out.

Price I would like to keep under $2000 if possible, but I will consider more if needed.

I like using the website cyberpowerpc.com for already built pcs and newegg.com for spare parts/reviews/price comparisons.

You can browse through cyberpowerpc but I've noticed the laptops these days are already catching up in terms of speed/specs..

They can have intel i7 processors and up to 6GB of ram which I'm sure will be enough.. graphic card choices aren't shabby either.

Why did this have to go in the FFXIV forum and why a new thread at that. We already have a hardware speculation thread and this could have gone in tech talk.

    Dude 2000$ o.o that's a lot

For 1300$ you can get this which let you play pretty much every game maxed out with 1920x1080p resolution [expect games like crysis of course] plus it's 15.6 not huge 17/18 inch

    Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G51VX-X1A NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - Laptops / Notebooks

GTX260M is equivalent to the desktop 9800GT~ not GTX260 "Nvidia love to use misguided names"

You can even get the quad core version with extra HD inside the laptop for 300$ more

Yeah, 2000 is a lot for a laptop, but we don't know exactly when XIV is coming out, if you dont need it now, I suggest waiting and seeing specs and getting it when there's a sale, or as late as possible, longer you wait, cheaper it'll be

Don't use cyberpower.com or ibuypower.com. I bought into the hype (granted, this was a few years ago, maybe 3?) and went with a PC from them because of how inexpensive they were for seemingly awesome performance and cool looking cases.

Got my computer, it did indeed look sweet, and ran incredibly fast... until 3 days later the motherboard fried.

I called them to use my included warranty service, their plan was to ship me a new power supply unit. I said I'm sure that's not the problem, they sent it anyways and said try that first. So a week later I get it (no computer this whole time), plug it in, still fried.

Call them, they tell me they will send me a new motherboard and I have to install it. I tell them if I wanted to rebuild an entire PC I would have built one to begin with, hell no. They say well SOL for you, return it then, and eat over $200 in "shipping" charges.

I contested it with my credit card company and eventually won, since they had never mentioned bullshit like that to me before and their service was so horrible.

tl;dr?: buy from newegg.com or dell, get a good brand (aka not Acer).

I really like that ASUS G you linked me too, a lot cheaper than I though it would be.

That one seems a little cheaper and better than the one on newegg I looked at, I'm tempted to get that one.

EDIT: the only thing I don't like is the battery sticks out of the back, is that for all batteries? I don't mind if they stick it facing down because then it adds angle to the laptop which can be comfortable.

That will easily run FFXIV. Good price, too. I like that it has HDMI out, wish more laptops included that these days.

I check around and found out that gateway already released 2 new model of that laptop. If bestbuy would carry the new models i could return the one i have and get one since i have a 2yr extended warranty with them and add the difference. Hopefully bestbuy will have it before FFXIV comes out.

Gateway Official Site: Shop - Notebooks - Gateway P Series Laptops

These gateways are looking like the way to go to me, I'm just worried that they might have sacrificed quality for cost.

I looked at that specific laptop myself but I wasn't sure if it was worth the price, I've seen a lot of laptop with the same specs for cheaper.

The standard specs alone are nice but the laptop altogether is extremely overpriced.
