You hardly warrant a response with this, but I'll give it to you.

3D has been done before. Sure, it's advancing and getting better, but what the fuck isn't in the industry? I could buy a brand new camera today and by tomorrow it'll be obsolete. It's a gimmick because there's only going to be certain movies that use it well -- perhaps Avatar, haven't seen it -- but there's also going to be movies where it's going to make you scratch your head at why they even bothered implementing something.

Just curious Ksandra, but how long has your fiance been working on the movie? I saw you mention it in another thread and how you couldn't disclose certain information, but could you tell me how long the movie has been done and how long so far has he been rendering it to 3D? That's another problem that 3D faces when long-term standing in the industry is considered. It's going to take longer to produce, which means more money. Cameron can do it and, as far as I've read, is going to continue doing it because he wipes his ass with money.

While I think it'll just be a gimmick, it's not something I'm protesting at all if it's used well. I'm simply saying that there will be movies that use it artistically, once again I'm assuming like Avatar based on things you've said in this thread already, that use it to immerse a viewer into the world of the movie, and then there's going to be movies (and I feel this is where the gimmick comes in, because it'll probably be the majority) that use it for explosions and things being thrown at you like My Bloody Valentine 3D.

I found it boring.

Spoiler: show
It's quite rubbish really. Wasn't impressed at all. For all James Cameron's "it's not about the technology, it's about the story and the characters" schtick, the technology was the only thing that was innovative at all. Story's bollocks, the characters are one-dimensional at best and to top it all off the amazing alien creatures are just fucking lazy. Oh look, it's a horse with two more legs. Oh look, it's a hammerhead shark's face on a rhino. Oh look, it's a big cat with two more legs. Oh look, it's a monkey with two more motherfucking legs. The "amazing alien language" sounds suspiciously human, and if Jake wakes up as a human whenever he goes to sleep as a blue bastard, when does he ever sleep? Try harder. If he spent this many years on the technology he could have spent a few hours on a better vehicle for it. Fucking right, whoever said it was Fern Gully and Dancing With Wolves...IN SPACE. But nowhere as near as awesome as Fern Gully.

Unimaginative, bland, and a near-total waste of three hundred million dollars in my opinion.

Saw it in 3D last night.

The 3D aspect was ok, there were only 2 or 3 parts that were wow, thats kind of cool; so if you didnt see it in 3D you didnt miss anything.

The backbone story, as others have said, is cliche, and you know exactly how it ends the minute you start watching it, so big meh to that. There where no plot turns as you could see through everything.

The secondary and extra casting dialog and acting was horrible, I threw my hands up in the air a good few times and was just like wtf is this? Did they pick off some guy from the street and say have at it?

When movies get hyped like this, I really hope they fail.

However with all that being said, I did find it amusing, and it kept my interest for the most part, and i'd probably get the DVD.

While the backbone story is basic, they sub plots around it, and how they act out the story is very interesting and fun. While yes, the new animals arent anything ground breaking, think of it as an evolutionary step. I think they wanted to keep everything as close as human relatable as possible, so that we would be better abosrbed in the movie.

The main actors did a decent job, nothing outstanding, but way better than the rest.

The detail of the world and the technology around it is also great, during the first night scene I was very impressed, very beautiful landscape.

As far as the above comment with the lack of sleep, considering their on the same planet, say the blue people go to bed at 11:00, he wakes up as he falls asleep there, records his video, eats, goes to bed at 12:00, gets up, eats, goes back into blue boy. They showed this in the movie.

Oh, I forgot to mention there were some part that were just dumb,
Spoiler: show
the religious singing and transfer, that could have been done better. And coming from a guy who likes hentai and such, seeing two blue giants fucking was wierd as hell.

Overall, recommended from me, just dont bring in high hopes.

PS. African slavery movie.
PPS. Blue nipples.

He's been working there for a month, I think they are scheduled to finish the conversion in another month. It really doesn't slow the process down too much. There are 4 companies in total doing the conversion (about 30 minutes each), and afaik the film is in post production anyways so they are still working on it, and whenever they finish a minute or two of the film they send it over.

And again, the fad will/i] last a lot longer than past 3D fads as long as those tv sales go well imo.

What an amazing movie... The 3D visuals brought out a lot of unexpected emotions I never dreamed of having.

Spoiler: show
Those hyena animals disturbed me at the beginning, and at moments I started to feel my acrophobia setting in. -.-;;;

I was deeply reminded of this after watching the movie.

Other than that, the flow of the overall movie and integration GFX was not bad. Like someone said, it felt like Final Fantasy Movie.

went watched it because my sister wanted to. As like eveyone else is saying it was a nice visual orgasm. The jungles glowing plants made my jaw drop a few times. But storyline wise you could go watch Pocahontas and have the same fucking plot. But without the visual "ooos and ahhhs".

Predicable, yes. Was still a good movie, and the animation was really great and I think we'll start seeing more of this caliber of animation in the future.

Just saw this last night in the "Real 3-D" and liked it a lot; had me geeking out over all the little details and little things I loved about it the entire ride home. I didn't really mind at all that certain parts were a little predictable or overly familiar to me because that's just bound to happen regardless and to me doesn't mean it's necessarily bad. Over a really short period of time would be a different story. Anyway, honestly it just felt incredibly similar to a Final Fantasy 10 and beyond with slightly different takes and interpretations here and there between storyline and character/creature design. I mean in a very general way, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's why it feels a little too familiar to some people. Even Kimahri reminded me of the Na'vi. lol

Spoiler: show
I was a little concerned Cameron was about to break into the first blue-cat sex scene.

Anyway, why do some see african slavery in this movie as opposed to American Native American invasion and takeover of their land? No trail of tears references when the Home Tree is destroyed and they have to relocate to the Tree of Souls along with the incredibly obvious Native American cultural influences and connections to the land around them?

Which reminds me, some of the "white d00der" dialogue from Jake bothered the shit out of me like the scenes where he tuff guy's on shit, but I guess it's understandable to paint a contrast to how he begins and ends in the movie.

As a random note, this is the first movie I've thought Michelle Rodriguez was hot in, if that says anything for her or the movie? lol

It's because you're one of those shortsighted people that don't see what some of us like to call "The Bigger Picture."

You see 3D glasses and a gimmick, I see fully immersive cinema experiences combing full surround audio as well as full video with depth, range, and complexity.

This translates beyond the glasses and the gimmick, and Avatar showed what else is brought to the table besides flimsy sight gags and "OH SHIT HAHA" reactions when 3D is done properly.

So you keep flippin' them burgers son I'll send you a telegram when the future arrives.

she wasn't in an overly butch role, but she was still kinda the same michelle rodriguez character we've seen before- tough chick doing a "manly" job.

Our definitions of "gimmick" are clearly different. I suppose I'll keep flippin' my burgers (cute btw, very original and well-thought out) while you rely on what the media says about the future of 3D movies to form the basis of your opinion, I'm sure we both read the same articles. The fact you can't recognize that I pretty much agreed with you concerning 3D being done properly tells me you just want another internet fight. I'll just go ahead and concede defeat because I know it'll end up with you saying something along the lines of "Whatever you say, you're clearly wrong in this argument of opinions." Congratulations on your win!

No one should ever concede to finesse ever for any reason whatsoever. Not even in jest.

Saw the movie last night and I have to say it got me hook, line & sinker. The 3D aspect was not a gimmick at all in the movie and I would say everyone must see it in 3D.

3 paragraphs of whining then agreeing with me.

Maybe just shutting the fuck up while you're ahead is a good strategy at this point. If you agreed with me why the essay of tears, esse? Ya I know it's the internet and last word is last word, just try to keep that small mind from rubbing that big chip on your shoulder, dem sparks might draw attention!

The cutest thing about the finesse is that he actually thinks he's better than you.
