Just saw this tonight, I wasn't disappointed, the visuals were top notch and not overly cheesy, made the story all the more captivating.

Avatar had pretty colors, but when the movie was over, I was pissed that I saw this instead of Princess and the Frog again.
Still waiting on that curb stomp (is this a threat btw?) I was supposed to receive for saying stupid shit. At least I've made an effort to explain the stupid shit I say, you spout bullshit for the sake of hearing the sound of you typing and attempting to set some sort of forum alpha male standard for yourself, but all you end up acting like is a confused bitch when you realized I actually did know what the fuck I was talking about, and you're just making assumptions of the future. You're a visionary bro, like I said, this summer when all the action movies overuse 3D (because it's a gimmick), you can maybe try to convince me any of them were good.
My wrists are supported nicely by the way, no carpal tunnel here.
I thought District 9 was alright, but I found this to be much more enjoyable.
Spoiler: show
Saw it today and I too was somewhat disappointed. Definitely not movie of the decade.
District 9 and Avatar are both good. But with Avatar.......
Spoiler: show
Avatar > District 9
I felt the same way. This was the first tru3d movie Ive seen. To be honest, the 3d actually seemed to blur the scree a bit when there were pan shots. After the first 20 mins I really stopped noticing except when it blurred.
Coming from someone with 20/20 vision, don't blame blurring just on glasses.
Best 3d thing I saw was in the previews, the new Alice in wonderland looks like it will be amazing in 3d.
All I can add is that the movie was simply amazing, although the plot was predictable mostly because:
Spoiler: show
But the visuals were spectacular and the best part was the aliens were believably humanoid and emotional.
I agree. I thought it was long, and the plot was not only highly predictable, but poorly done. The "wow" factor of the visuals wore off about half-way through, and I was left with a boring film I wished would end sooner. I will be very disappointed if this wins Best Picture (although I don't much like the Academy anymore regardless).
jesus christ, everyone's such a faggot with the "pshhhh im so fucking baller i knew how it ended BEFORE THE MOVIE EVEN STARTED." shut up and enjoy the ride, holy shit. no one wants to hear you spout useless drivel to look cool, because you just end up looking like a harley rider.
Don't get me wrong... while the plot was predictable it by no means took away from the movie.
I'll tell you what Cameron should have done when hyping the movie - he should have just said "It's like a retelling of the story of Pocahontas, but what if instead of native Americans it happened again on another world? How would another species react? What would they do?"
That would have killed a little of the over-hyping the movie received.
Anyways, I don't care. Girlfriend and I and the family enjoyed it like crazy. If you didn't just because the plot was predictable, you watch movies for the wrong reason. I mean, realistically, 90% of all movies made are either remakes or re-tellings of classic stories. That's why clichés exist.
So am I the only one that saw that 6 legged leopard thing and go "Holy shit, now I know what a fucking Hexapuma looks like! Stephanie Harrington is not to be fucked with"
I didn't find it predictable at all. Then again I find anyone who's seen Pochohantas and Ferngully let alone remember it, very suspicious.
Said this to my mom on the way back from finally getting to see it today. Sadly that quote is true about most movies now a days, but it doesn't mean the movie is horrible/sucks/etc. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and like what they like.
My mom and I both enjoyed it and thought it was good. Unfortunately, despite arriving at the IMAX theater over 30 minutes before the showing... it was sold out. So we did the normal 3D showing at 1:20. Still was worth it, although I would have much rather have seen it on the big ass IMAX screen.
I ended up getting a bit of a headache at the end... I couldn't help but want to look around the screen at times to see the environment. At points where bushes/plants/what not would pass infront of the main focus, part of my brain wanted to push them out of the way before it clicked that "oh yeah.. not real."
Anywho, week late, can't add anything that hasn't already been said/beat. Liked it. Will grab it on DVD when it's available.
