Looks amazing to me; nice break from the MORE GREY AND BROWN, MORE BLOOM theme that we see everywhere lately.

Ah, I was thinking it was going to be some what commentary "preview". Little talking, show of scenes, kind of glimpse of the movie. Not that it mattered much, but thanks for the reply. I was hoping it would get leaked on the net somewhere to view. >3

That's what I was thinking last week. Where the fuck is my Gunnm movie. I'm still not convinced a movie adaptation would be good or similar to the manga though, but I will trust the guy (if he actually do it).

Like many Gunnm fans, I am very skeptical on any movie even getting close to what the manga is. If a studio/director etc manages to put out a quality Gunnm film, I will be impressed.

I would like to read more about this if there were any advances. What you described has been capable for over a decade now in your typical 3dsMax application.

I don't think it was completely developed by them. I heard that the CGI animated movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" used a similar tactic. It basically made it so that you use a real world camera to control the camera in the virtual world. So when you look thru the camera lens, you see the whole 3D environment. What you see in the lens, is what ends up on film, and so it allows for more finite control of the camera in the 3d environment, instead of animating the paths and movements of the camera in 3d space. So in certain scenes, you get the feel that the scene was shot from a handheld, or a dolly.

Indeed, I gathered that I must have misunderstood it, but I'm too sleep-deprived to take another shot right now. It's all in the wikipedia entry.

Battle Angel live action certainly makes me wary, but I'm glad it's being given a shot. And this IS James "Terminator 2, Abyss, Aliens, and True Lies" Cameron here.

yeah, if we'd have early 90's i would have no fear at all but it's been some time since he has done those masterpieces. i also hope it won't be all cut to achieve a low pg rating, because gunmm certainly is one of the most inhuman mangas when it comes down to the value of human beings. like when the motor ball fans stick out their arms, eagerly awaiting to be collected as trophy by the champion. sure, there are equally or more violent mangas but there aren't many which show a similar gruesomeness. i pray that cameron catches that theme and isn't just going for another sci-fi no brainer action flick.

afaik the movie covers the first 3 mangas and he's up for making more if the first one turns out to be a hit.

edit: oh wtf, i just found this on wiki: As with Avatar, the movie will be marketed and distributed by 20th Century Fox worldwide. Cameron is aiming for a PG-13 rating.

As much as I'd like to see this movie do well, I see "Epic Fail" written all over this. Hollywood just can't get anything right anymore.

I don't know if I want to see the same amount of gore in a live action. It work well for cartoon, but I think it would look a bit ridiculous with real characters (ie: B movie).

not the gore amount, but the handling of it. can't really describe it but imagine t1 created for pg-13. at worst we get a reverse transformers (although i like the first one) with no real boobs and shia playing hugo. at best..something epic but if it's confirmed that they aim for pg-13, i can forget my dream of a gritty, bad to the bones sci-fi adventure. i'm curious how they'll do makaku for a teen audience.

No fucking way it end up like Transformer. It could be boring, but it's never going to be the same kind of travesty. Cameron actually pick project he cares about, instead of trying to milk money out of popular franchise while jerking off to his own picture like a certain someone. Beside, he already said it was going to cover the first 3 chapters, so it should be somewhat similar.

Gally, Ido, the world (people who live in the scrapyard and a city high in the sky), martial art..as long those things are done right, it should be decent. Doing this right is more important than the motorball or limbs flying everywhere.

Definitely; more important than the limbs and brains and guts spilling is the sense of what that tries to convey, that life is pretty much worthless in the Scrapyard. And I think that can be gotten across in a more subdued way through a movie. I do hope it succeeds, I'd really like to see a good take on the Angel of Death era.

I want to say the opening chapters of Gunnm are sort of weak in comparison to how things rapidly begin to develop. We see Gally in a "younger" stage and mind, she has that school girl crush on Hugo etc. I know writers cant always start off epic and all that, but there is so much more quality material just after that initial scrapyard story that I hope the general public wont be turned off by that opening story.
