Yeah.. ruined our plans of going out to see it as well. I love snow, but god damnit...

We'll probably just be seeing it on the normal screens. I'd have to look up the closest IMAX because I honestly don't know where one is around here. Plus I don't know how IMAX huge screen + 3D would affect my BPPV(Benign Proximal Positional Vertigo).. lol.

Oh god, shut up. Of course it makes logical sense, the logic was just spelled out in front of you. Also the most retarded people are never anal, they are the ones who always go for the easier answer. ie "2000 isn't apart of the 90s because it doesn't have 199 in it!" LOGIKAL.
You're right, I meant semantically not logically.

GOD this movie fucking SUCKED. The visuals were incredible, though I guess that only makes me feel worse about it. Such amazing technology squandered on a cliched pile of dog shit. Ugh. Waste of $15.

I liked the movie as a whole. I didn't like the ending.

    Spoiler: show
Too perfect, someone needed to die or he should have stayed in human form, or his avatar should have died or something

Probably 2nd most visually stunning movie I've seen. Nothing else to really say. Go see it for the visuals, in IMAX if possible. It's not movie of the year, probably not the best movie I've seen this month, but it was entertaining, well-paced, and presented quite well for the overdone plot.

It's the fact that just about everything was predictable. Yeah, you knew that the Titanic was gonna sink; however you didn't know all the details of the love story, which was the core of the movie.

In Avatar, there were no surprises or interesting twists. The story just felt really lifted from previous movies.

The visuals make this movie worthwhile; the music and sound were solid as well. The disappointment is that the story was a very empty, stale vehicle to showcase the excellent visuals and cinematography... which feels like wasted potential considering just how good the visuals were.

I dunno, it's like commissioning Picasso hundreds of millions to paint a vase of flowers instead of Guernica.
(disclaimer: cameron is no picasso. also, a picasso painting of a vase of flowers would not be awful, but it wouldn't be guernica or demoiselles or old man and guitar)

Meh, I was easily entertained with my 6 bux, and my geek side was busy popping boners from all the eye candy and detailing.

I saw this in IMAX 3-d and it was FREAKING AMAZING! Please make the mission to see this movie the way it was supposed to be seen. They give you these cool 3-d glasses, that are more like plastic goggles then the flimsy red tape glasses i've seen before for "3-d".

The visuals and experience are out of this world, it feels like your IN the movie and the action scenes were a ton of fun. It's hard to describe but the IMAX is well worth it, this will definately be the future of movies and hopefully video games in the future.

The story was great and the characters well written. Sigorney Weaver and the main bad guy did an outstanding job.The audience was emotionally attached to the main characters and the world/environment drew you in. Some parts felt like you were in an interactive cut scene of Wing Commander or Mass Effect. And no disrespect but for the people saying this was predictable get over yourselves. There were plenty twist and turns in the plot and for a SCI-FI/Fantasy adventure this is A+ material.

Unfortunately I gave up smoking weed a long time ago but for those that do, I can't imagine having more fun than getting stoned out of your mind and seeing this in IMAX. Don't come in expecting a No Country for Old Men set piece, but grab your popcorn and get ready to immerse yourself in one of the most creative and visually spectacular movies that you have ever seen.

There was plenty of audience interacting and cheering/applause at the end which is good sign in my book. Highly recommended!

I'm quite torn, so many people say it's shit outside of the visual effects, while other people say it was good overall. Are the people that say it's good overall being clouded by the "ooooooo shiny"?

It's overall good, but disappointing from the story standpoint. That's what stops it from being great. Definitely go and enjoy the visuals.

You are a video game fan on a MMO forum, the concept of "oooooo shiny" clouding one's judgment should've never occured to you.

I don't understand the idea behind saying 3-D is "the future" of the movie industry. Who are the people demanding this and what is the point? Maybe we could feel like were really having our space violated by Kathy Bates' ass in the hot tub scene in About Schmidt.

Is a rehashed Smell-O-Vision going to be the next movie "revolution"? Maybe we get to smell the manly musky breath of Edward in Twilight? Ooh, be still my heart!

3-D stuff seems like a fun idea for kids movies and action porn, but saying it's some kind of wave-making unbridled force is dumb.

The story isn't shit IMO (shit would be something like Ninja Assassin's storyline), its just not great for a movie of this caliber. What really impressed me was how immersed I felt watching it in IMAX 3D. When they go into shots of the command center-ish places with all the futuristic computer screens, they felt/looked amazingly real, it was uncanny. The only downside to the 3D that I experienced is when a scene tried to focus on a particular thing when I was looking at something else that was out of focus; that screwed with me a bit. Everyone I went with pretty much thought the same about the movie itself though: plot was weak but not horrible, but pretty much everything else about it was amazing.

The movie was fairly entertaining but I can vouch for the cliche' plot.
    Spoiler: show
I saw the movie in German, a language I barely understand, and pretty much knew exactly what was going on and how everything went about. It's not a bad movie at all, I loved the whole "planet protecting itself" aspect of it towards the end but besides that and the whole avatar bit everything was pretty straightforward, "check-the-block" cinema story-line in my opinion. For as much as this movie was hyped, it fell flat on it's back.
