the 1st step is the bitch when your working with cheap noodles, but it can still be done. i grew up on those ramen things since i was kid lol (times are rough!) and if you chop some onion, put some shrimp in it, with the right texture and the right seasoning. you can get it looking just like the 1st pics lol.

how do you guys get the texture more consistent? i usually have to stretch it every couple min when im stirring it lol

Noodles in bowl, fill bowl with water, microwave for 3-5 minutes.

Fuck dirtying a pot just to make some ramen. If I have eggs boiled, I usually cut it in half and put that in. Otherwise, it's deli meat and a the seasoning package. If I have extra shrimp laying around that gets thrown in sometimes.

Man this thread makes me hungry for Ramen with egg, I've never tried it with eggs, always just chicken breast and potato, dumpling and vegetables...

I sometimes boil out all the water when I cook it to, so that only noodles remain, and then eat the noodles (season absorbed) with spaghetti sauce and those frozen sweedish meatballs, since Ramen cooks faster than spaghetti...

The bean cake in it is what awesome would be if it had a flavor.

Unfortunately, my rudimentary cooking skills are severely lacking (I have managed to burn soup before), so I've never had ramen with all the nifty stuff you guys are talking about (makes me sad). I tried cracking an egg in it once I think and my lack of skill caused a severe downfall in the quality of the taste of my ramen so I never tried it again. However, I would love to have 'real' ramen... or even some spiced up ramen...

Set pan of boiling water on burner.
    Add minced garlic, minced onion.
Add chopped broccoli, carrots, and portabella mushrooms, and noodles. Carrots have to be thin to cook well, and usually I break the brick of noodles in half so that they aren't as long.
Add chunks of turkey (comes in a can like tuna) and ~½ bag of seasoning.
    Add egg at the end.

Also I've added cauliflower, onion, shrimp. If it tastes good in boiling water chances are it will taste good with ramen.

SPAM? People eat this crap still? I haven't had it for at least 10 years but I remember being a log of 50% Meat 50% Salt.

Also, that chili garlic sauce sounds amazing, can this be found at a regular grocery store?

I usually pan fry sandwich steaks/chicken breast pieces in garlic, onion, whatever spices you're feeling. Then make instant noodles, add some soy, hot sauce or whatever, then throw it in a bowl.

It's pretty simple, you can put almost anything you want in with the noodles and it'll work (fish fingers was a particularly good find). It's so easy to make and serve that you might as well experiment with each and every dish untill you find something you like the taste of.

the only thing I do that's different from the package directions is to crack an egg into the mix when I dump the ramen in (I always use boiling water, don't do the microwave version). it makes it more filling, otherwise I'll be hungry again in less than an hour usually.

I do this when ever I want really good ramen, not that instant stuff

Get a 2 pound pork roast, start by rubbing the roast with salt, pepper, crushed garlic, ginger, cinnamon and what ever other spices you may like. Heat a large cast iron pot, add butter and add some shallot, celery, and more garlic cook until soft. Brown the roast on all sides. Once the roast is browned drain off any fat that has rendered out. Add enough water to be just shy of the top of the roast, add 1/4 cup soy sauce, another 2-3 cloves of garlic, more ginger, 1 stick of cinnamon, some star anise (if you like it, I personally don't). Bring to a simmer and let cook for 2 hours or so.

After the roast is finished cooking remove it from the pot, let the remaining liquid sit for few minutes and then skim any fat from the top. This is now the base of your broth. Add enough water to bring it up to 6-8 cups total liquid. Add more soy sauce to taste, miso paste if you have it, mushrooms (either whole, diced or sliced), bean sprouts, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, Chinese five spice powder, juice of 2 limes, cilantro, and a hard boiled egg for each person you're serving. Bring to a boil, and add your noodles, I prefer a fresh asian noodle but you can substitute a dried one if you need to. Slice the roast and add a couple of slices per person to the mixture. Let it cook together for a 2-3 minutes or until the noodles are done. Serve in large bowls with a side of rice and enjoy.

Sure this takes a whole afternoon to prepare, but it's a damn sight better than the instant stuff. Of course I generally only make this when I have company over because I'm too lazy to cook just for my self. You can also add what ever you want to the broth, fish cakes like mentioned earlier are good.

    1) get shin ramen, and make sure you have leftover cold rice
    2) start boiling water, add veggies/soup powder and whatever else you wanna eat (i add onions, green onions and hot dogs)
    3) when water boils, add noodlez
    4) put lid on, wait 3~5min, mix it around to let air breeze through the noodles for pimpness
    5) crack an egg in, wait 1min and fucking enjoy
    6) once done with noodles, add in cold rice and devour that shit with a spoon

    = well eaten nig

I haven't eaten it in years, but I never cooked it. Pound on the package to break up the noodles, dump into a bowl, pour the seasoning over it and mix it up. Instant crunchy snack!

This is the correct answer. Also crack and egg in there while you're cooking it. SHAZAM.
