I'm sure if you do it once while being strapped to an instructor you'll feel comfortable enough to do it alone next time.

I would have a stream of yellow behind me the whole time and a very saggy bottom.

I'd go. None of my friends are aficionados like this, though.

I did a jump last summer, was indeed awesome. It was on my to-do-before-you-die-list and I figured I'd get it out of the way early. Was quite costly, but totally worth it, since I don't really think I'll do it again.

Free falling is a wonderful feeling.

What was your jump altitude? That freefall seemed really long.

I started to get my AFF cert in Texas about 5 years ago and never finished it due to a divorce bankrupting the skydive company I was getting it at. Only 2 jumps in too >.<

If I could get together enough money, I would drive down there (from Oregon) and jump a tandem with you. See what the SoCal air feels like. Time to start saving!

Standard 13k. I'll be up in NorCal starting this weekend, hit me up if you ever do follow through with AFF.

Thanks Hope it all goes well too haha

So I made it back in one piece. The diving was awesome, about 30 seconds of it (9k to just under 5k feet.)

The one thing though is after the chute was popped I started getting really light headed and barely made it to the ground conscious. I have normal blood pressure but i think it was possibly because the right leg strap on my harness was pinching my leg and hurt on the way down so that possibly cut my circulation?

I'd love to go again, even solo eventually but I'd like to figure out what the issue was before I do it again haha

I've wanted to go skydiving for a long time now but like many I am just really, really scared. I know that to die from equipment failure is almost impossible, but its still just really scary lol. Seeing this thread has re-inspired me though. There's a place in southern Arizona that does jumps from 13k feet and they charge 170 for students for a first time tandem jump. Is this about the right price or am I getting jipped?

Is it in Eloy? That's a damn fine drop zone.

170 is reasonably cheap actually. Eloy is a great DZ too if it's the one you're looking at.

I received a gift certificate back in October(my bday) to go sky diving with my gf. We went recently in April i think it was when we were down in Tampa. It was frigin fun as hell. The worst part was the floating down though because at the time i was 210 and those straps hurt like a mother fucker . Would do it again and again though.

About your being lightheaded? I assume your instructor was probably spiraling you under canopy. Did your legs feel super heavy and tight? It's just a product of the centrifugal forces shooting blood to your feet and something you get used to.

How much more dangerous is BASE jumping compared to skydiving?
I'm just assuming it's more dangerous, haha.

Depends on the situation and what you're jumping from.

Most BASE instructors won't even consider you until you have over 100 skydive jumps. You have seconds (or less) to adjust for equipment failures. Some jumps are pretty standard, like tall bridges. Some are more technical, like some cliffs and buildings. In those cases, you are usually falling just feet from what you're jumping off of. Catch a bad air pocket or have some sort of failure, and you're going to have a very bad day.
