    Fuck it go sch.

Can Cure, Can Nuke, You actually get invites to exp unlike blm and don't need AFII head and 12 mil body peice.

And yeah sometimes you'll be asked to cure (Shit like limbus and other smaller events) but others like dynamis you'll probably see a lot of nukes.

If you don't like curing stay away from rdm period.

I disagree. If some can do it, others can do it. The question was not "is it as good," we all know the answer to that. Question was "is it functional," examples are good proof that it is, in this case.

SCH seems to have been designed to fit the low MP/high HP races due to how sublimation works.

    Personally I wouldn't recommend RDM.

RDM is expected to do a lot with their MP, and will be constantly casting in a lot of situations. Their only limitation is how much MP they can spend/sec (which is defined by the amount of MP they start with, their convert timer and how much refresh gear/buffs they get).

    BLM could work

In HNM situations you simply sit their waiting for a skillchain, cast 1 nuke, aspir and then rest while waiting for the next skillchain. You are not so limited by MP and you also have hate to worry about, which is likely to limit you before your MP does. Sure you wont post and game breaking damage numbers, but you should be able to land nukes.

In other situation like Dynamis where you are constantly free nuking and hate is not an issue you may struggle due to MP limitations. But no one is going to kick you for not nuking if you are low on MP, as long as you concentrate on the statues.

BLM is just a sleep/stun whore on any content post-2006 anyway, so don't bother unless you're in an lolaery ls.

I think i decided to go sch... i read kaekos LJ and it really made me feel like its best for me. Its not just curing but I can do a little of everything. Rdm i think would be easier for me to play and more rewarding, but not ever getting to nuke at events or do dmg would not be fun to me. Blm just seems to be to costly atm and honestly solo lving does not sound to fun.

Thanks all for your help!!! galka sch ahoy! err uh does anyone have any other good SCH LJ's? KI and ala are lol for what to aim for.... and i didnt see any sch posted in the pic section to know what i can dram of haha.

You must not do ZNMs. or Ouryu/Bahamut/Tiamat. or whatever other things I don't feel like thinking of atm.

You might want to invest into a Conserve MP build and use it on any spell that isn't affected by other parameters (Blink, Reraise, Protect, Shell, Regen, Bio in slots where Dark Skill isn't available and so on).
Over time it makes a noticiable difference.

A "Max MP on first nuke" build is also a decent idea, considering Galka get a lot of MP from their RSE earring, hands and waist.

    >.> yeah, I never did any ZNMs at all. Mhmm.

CoP wyrms aren't "post-2006" and you only "need" BLMs for Ouryu.

That's not true. BLM do awesome at ZNM (pld rdm brd thf blm blm can take out every T1-2-3, and nearly everything can be manaburned with 3-4 BLM). For T4, Hydra = blm, Sarameya = melee zerg and Tyger= Rng/smn

They are also great to have if you do SCNM (dungeon in the past) or ANNM. They were good for the fairy BC I tried. If you look at Pandemonium Warden strategy, I would say they are still quite useful for endgame HNM

And we aren't talking about the old content. Blm are fucking god in sea, pretty useful in limbus/dynamis, ouryu, certain ENM and generally good to have all around (warp, retrace, good soloer). Sure, it's not like BLM is absolutely needed, but it's generally one best job for easy/quick kills.

I don't know about you, but most of the spell you mentioned have low mp cost, and the inventory you would need for another situational set would make blm even harder to manage. If you carry in of those normally, go for it, but I don't think it's a good idea to carry 5 more pieces for this.

MP is an issue in some events. I notice our elvaan BLMs struggling to keep up so I'm sure galka will have issues. That being said, I've met some exceptional galka mages and as long as you're willing to invest some money/time into gearing appropriately you'll do fine.

I'd still suggest SCH because their MP efficiency is awesome and they can do a lot of different things and it doesn't take much with the arts and sublimation to do just fine without Refresh.

The down side about BLM is you will have to level it solo or in small groups. Even if you astralburn it, you're then going to have to skill up elemental fast and you will lose out on a lot of painful but probably necessary learning on the way up. Galka HP will do very well on SCH with sublimation too.

In terms of invites RDM >> SCH >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BLM.

Depends why you're doing it. If you're the person who posted elsewhere and just want a support job to occasionally help out and be accepted into a shell then do SCH or BLM because you will get stuck on RDM a lot if you have it levelled.

The key for you as a galka, which will also be your biggest strength, is that you will have to rely on skill instead of inherent traits because of your race. Regardless of which mage class you level, you will have to use each spell with better timing and efficiency than a taru or mithra because there will be a whole lot less room for error. It sounds like SCH is the best fit for you, so run with it and have a good time. But people in pt without a backup healer or lolPL WILL tell you to stay in light arts almost exclusively. You're gonna be healing a whole lot.

Kaeko's blog is awesomeawesome for SCH... dunno of any others but I bet you can find one jumping from blog link to link.

Level all 3, SCH BLM RDM, they all own really, but I guess you don't wanna level them all, so go with RDM BLM. Versatility at its best.

I agree. Sublimation turns your weakness (an unfit hp/mp ratio) into a strength.

Stratagems, Conserve MP, Light/Dark Arts, Sublimation, Drain, and Aspir will make you an efficient caster.

If anyone complains about your max MP just pop a hi-ether in the middle of the fight and say "Did you bring one of those? No? Okay, now we're on even ground."

I'd just tell them to mind their own fucking business :3 Seriously, anyone complaining about another player's race in 2009 needs to shove it.

OP: SCH is a fun job, and if you've found Kaeko's LJ you'll be very well prepared. There's a post (I believe it was immediately following the buff that made SCH go from "lol" to "BLMs screaming for a nerf") that explains how it can be viewed as a hybrid of BLM and RDM, so in that sense it's a good choice of the three. Not to mention there's a lot less hard to get gear for SCH simply because it has less gear options - it's a convenient limitation.
If you've read all of kaeko's scholar guide and related posts I'm not sure you'll need any other guides. Small gear questions are quickly answered in the "Which is better" thread if you need it.

I'm gonna have to weigh in for Galka RDM. While Galka's capability as SCH and BLM has been stated, my Galka RDM experience has been nothing but a positive one.

As a Galka PLD and RDM, I can say that a RDM kiter is much easier, more self-sufficient, and more fun than PLD. For meriting, I idle in over 900 MP, but that's entirely unnecessary for endgame events. I tend to idle in more like 650 which preserves my high HP around 1200, and the last time I kited Gotoh Zha the Redolent, I survived some mean Firespits through a 350 SS with double digit HP left.

To close the gap a bit, I merited 5/5 Convert recast, but this honestly sees the most use when the situation is tight, or while meriting with a group of subpar melees. I can't recall one time in the last year where I was on RDM and I thought "I wish I had more MP". But everytime a taru mage dies to an AoE through stoneskin I'm reminded how glad I am to be Galka.

I was actually cheating, I was wearing a resist set with carol/barfire. So much easier to just straight-tank that thing and eat the 0-damage 'dangerous' TP moves.

My Galka BLM is at 58 right now and I have 1000 hp and 450 mp, and that's with pretty good gear including desert stone, astral ring, etc...

    Just be prepared.
