    FFXI Freezing Every Seconds

So, basically I've been having problem running FFXI, after taking a break from it for several months. Now it is freezing every second on interval with freezing lasting like 1/10th of a second.

I've tried a lot of things. I disabled several services, closed several processes. This didn't help. This is obviously outside of windower issue, as I ran into even without windower. Lastly, this is the same computer that I've been running FFXI off with Vista, and it ran perfectly fine. I pretty much tried everything, so I'm running out of ideas, outside of formatting and reinstalling (which I really would rather not do, because I did this less than couple of weeks ago due to Windows 7).

    Computer specs:

    Motherboard: Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 Windsor
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, x64 RTM (It is legit)

Any help with this would be really appreciated.

Do you use usb wireless network adapter? Anything changed since last time? Theres been a few threads on this issue in the past, I always notice them because I had this problem. I resolved mine by disabling QoS packet scheduler under TCPIP settings for my network adapter... that seems to work for about 50% of the cases. I can't remember the other resolutions, but I could help you search for them if that doesn't work.

No, I use a PCI wireless network adapter. I'll look into disabling QoS packet scheduler, and see if that does it.

Yeah give it a shot. I ask about the USB because I feel like that was the cause for some people's issue. I can't really remember though.

I had this issue for years and only thing that fixed it was disabling Human Interface Devices. It seemed like each one caused the freeze to last a little bit longer and more noticeable, till I turned every single one off to where it became completely unnoticeable. (This from what I can tell turns off keyboard shortcuts and such stuff.)
For XP: Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Human Interface Devices

That or its WZC services borking your wireless. Try it hardwired.

So far, it seems to remain in FFXI. Other games does not skip every seconds as FFXI has been doing. I am seeing hints of this in POL viewer though.

I ran on 8800 GTS and had the same issue. I heard there were issues with the new drivers and FFXI on VISTA and Nvidia. I don't know about 7 though.

Sounds like a failing hard drive to me.

There's no way network activity would make a game graphically stutter.

I'm having this issue too on a brand new computer, also Windows 7 RTM (and legit). It's pretty noticeable in POL itself (things taking longer to load), but it makes FFXI unplayable. Other games run fine, however. Going to try some older drivers but if nothing works I'll just install RC1 (as much as I don't want to ~_~).

Edit: No luck with older drivers, fuck.

For what it's worth OP, I'm using 8800 GTS cards on this computer and FFXI works fine on Windows 7 RC1; on my new computer I'm using 2x 285s and I'm getting crap performance in FFXI, so it might just be an issue with RTM. Unfortunately I'm selling my old computer next weekend so even though I'm not looking forward to the whole "reinstall everything" song and dance when RTM does work with FFXI, I guess I don't have a choice.

Oh this isn't looking good for me then. :\

Highly doubt this. The hard drive is showing no sign of failing at all.

I had this issue as well. I put FFXI on a higher priority on my processor (Which some people claim is a bad idea, what ever.) and it stopped.

    Buy a new PC!

Well, its the only thing that worked for me. My old pc had this issue, but I never managed to fix it (tried almost everything said in this thread). I figured it was simply the shitty graphic card.

Seriously, this lag is really shitty. It got me killed so many time, because you can't kite anything, and mobs were always catching up on me unless there was some bad pathing.

Yeah, so Windows 7 RC1 didn't help either. ~_~ Gonna play around with some stuff today, I guess...

Edit: Setting pol's priority to high didn't help. I also tried disabling HIDs as someone else mentioned.

Edit #2: Okay, fuck me. In my case I decided to disable Day's advice that it might be the USB Network Adapter because even the opening movie was skipping, but I'm currently sharing my Macbook's internet connection with my new desktop and now it works fine. Love you Day! Now I have to see if it's possible for me to fix my USB network adapter's settings so that it works. And I also have to install Windows 7 RTM again fffff...

Edit #3: While I'm working on Windows 7 install #3 for the past two days, what USB devices do you have plugged in Sorantia?

...Lots of them. I ran FFXI with no USB except for Mouse and Keyboard and still does it.

    a Printer
    two external hard drives.
    USB to PS3 adapter
    USB connector for my cellphone
    Mouse
    Keyboard
    Two Flash drives

However, your situation got me thinking. What is the brand of the network adaptor?

    This did not work either.

Do you have the issue when you're running hardwired or only with the wireless?

It's a Linksys, but based on research I did this weekend I believe the adapter itself is a generic Ralink wireless adapter.
