The block value change will be nice for raids. I'll just miss the current system for lower level content like heroics or farming. The defense change will open up more stat points for mitigation/survival/avoidance. I always disliked how there can be an awesome piece of gear, but it may have no defense, so you have to use less than optimal gear in other slots to maintain uncritability.

Considering the point they made about getting abilities while leveling/talents and they dont want the "Woo! Level up! 1% more hit now!" there may be a chance they will change hit like they are doing with other stats.

Is blizzard the only online game franchise to hold a con entirely for their content?

I wiki'd the info but could not see trivia type info like that. Just found it interesting and also wondered if they participate in other cons or does this exclusive con make the others pointless. Also are there other brands there too?

Well Blizzard does it for all products of theirs as opposed to just one game like WoW.

In contrast FFXI has obviously done Fanfests (Two) for just that game, and in October CCP will be holding a Fanfest in Iceland for EVE Online (2nd Annual).

So they're not alone. In relation they're not even as narrowminded as other fanfest/cons.

I guess the golden rule of MMO's is that when you are working on a new MMO you just start recycling your old MMO content so you don't have to come up with new stuff for your old game.

Not to mention Gnomes retaking Gnomeregan (or is that still unconfirmed?) I can't be mad at them remaking the zones if they completely different. What's the point? It's basically that whole new zone you wanted without having to walk as far (or fly!)

Characters and Events

Deathwing
Deathwing the Destroyer / Neltharion the Earth-Warder will play a major role in Cataclysm. Having been driven mad by Old God whisperings and turning against his own kind only to be fail in his attempts, Deathwing has sunk into the shadows. While the Horde and the Alliance were busy fighting back the Burning Legion only to then be beset with the Scourge, he has been lurking and moving things into place. After Lady Sinestra's failed attempts to create a Twilight Dragonflight, he again retreated to Grim Batol and succeeded where she failed. With his results seen in the Obsidian Sanctum, he has finally created the supreme Dragonflight he sought and plans to unleash it upon the world. But what of the Old Gods' sway over him?

Azshara
Queen Azshara will also play a major part in Cataclysm. Unknown to many mortal races, long forgotten by others, and believe to be dead by her own kind, she has not been dormant in depths of the Maelstrom. Having those around her transformed by the Old Gods into Naga after her failure in the War of the Ancients, she has become far more powerful and a greater threat than she once was. Not content with just Nazjatar and the depths of the sea, Azshara seeks to reclaim power and reign once again. With the true plan behind Lady Vashj's support of Illidan remaining a mystery we do not know what hand Azshara has yet played. The big question remains, is she now serving her "saviors", the Old Gods?

The Cataclysm
I'm still not sure who is the true end boss of Cataclysm is, but the cataclysm appears to have been caused by attempts to incantation to summon extremely powerful beings using an ancient incantation by Deathwing and Azshara. They're both very powerful, but the cataclysm itself suggests something more powerful is behind it, perhaps their shared past of Old God influence?

The Guardian of Tirisfal
Malfurion Stormrage will be returning to Azeroth to aid in the creation of the new Guardian of Tirisfal - Thrall! Med'an's role in these events is currently unknown.

The New (New) Horde
Thrall will hand over the leadership of the Horde to Garrosh Hellscream, while he serves as a coordinator for both the Horde and Alliance forces in and effort to combat the new threat of the Naga and Black Dragonflight. Without Thrall to keep Garrosh in check, he declares open war on the Alliance. In the political upheaval Cairne Bloodhoof is implicated as a traitor to the Horde and murdered by Garrosh. Cairne's son Baine takes over as the new Tauren chieftan. This could explain why Baine was removed from the game in Patch 3.2.2, you can find more information about this in Ahmo Thunderhorn - replacement for Baine Bloodhoof?

not quoting your other post since it was too long, but ringthree I kinda understand your point, but at the same time I DO think blizzard's motive is different (even if some are shared).

Phasing is their new toy. It worked awesomely in WoTLK. But was only used in small parts. If (which I assume) they perfected it, then this opened a door for them to basically phase everything. Which is essentially what they are doing. they're taking their new toy and putting it on a massive scale.

While wotg may have similarities I really thing the motivation was different. SE =trying to work with "ps2 limitations" and a game they no longer want to focus on. Blizzard= expanding on something new in attempts to give new experiences to old players.

I've been to both fanfest and blizzcon and I can tell you the energy is completely different. SE devs=don't seem prepared to answer questions about their own game. Blizzard devs=embrace their game and are excited about it.

I doubt too many (if any at all) were looking for a "cope out" solution to their next expansion.
