Which isn't what you usually see with MMOs. OB means it is open to everybody for free to try out. OBs are used mainly for stress tests of servers, to see how much load they can take etc. Somehow NCSoft came up with their own definition though ;p

OB merely has no NDA, that's it. I figured this out while trying to get into Champions Online "open" beta.

So uh, did anyone notice while updating their client, at the end of the message where it said it was done pre-downloading the patch, it said "See you on 8/31/09!"?

I left my launcher on in the background updated. Only took 3 days, but it finally finished this morning. I don't think you can apply the update until the 31st, or at least that's how i understood the message it gave me.

I didn't look at the size on fileplanet's site but the downloader shows 9.12 GB D: god damn that's big

Not that big for a MMO that lookwise is pretty awesome. FFXI was damn near that much with a lot crappier textures and smaller maps.

Aion is a smaller game then XI and a lot of other mmo's (least at 1.0). Most of the lving is done in about 5 [giant] zones per side

Pretty sure FFXI is way bigger. I mean, you could argue that FFXI has all those expansion packs but 1.5 alone has more content than WotG. Plus, Aion looks much better.

I'm probably wrong on the size front then, though the textures and graphics point stands. Either way I still don't think 9 GB is that big for an MMO.

I thought about this and your completely right but where this game gets its fun is from the small areas because if we have a WoW size continent then you would run for an hour and not run into anyone like it is now.

I don't want to run around for 20+ minutes to find some world PvP I want to have it at every turn and the small world makes that a reality!

The zones are varied enough and the abyss is pretty big and we have just more to look forward to in the new year with a possible expansion.

I mean how many DEAD zones did FFXI have? Tahronghi canyon is 90% dead space, merph mountains, lathine, ect ect all big empty space with a few mobs scattered throughout but is the area bigger? Yes, but that doesn't make it have more content.

I see more cotent in this game then in FFXI release IMO its smaller but for a better cause.
