Oh wow this just got bad. lol
The sarcasm is strong in some of you. We got all the interviews up fast because we have several translators. And yes they know Japanese, considering we had one of them onsite at Gamescom doing the... translating. Gasp! Yes I know, amazing huh? But they can't always be around the clock.
As for unique content? Well, I brought 100% unique content including an exclusive interview from Gamescom, so we're very happy with those results as well.
Plus we even subtitled the videos.
Now, I rarely 'explain' myself, but it was my impression this community was friendly. Then again, there's always a select few who drag down the rest.
To those of you who said nice things, thank you.
You gave a lot of good information from gamescom Zyuu. The problem is, your translator is ripping other people off. You can choose to ignore it, or you can acknowledge what everybody already realized and say you're doing something about it.
FFXIVCore.com - Final Fantasy XIV Fansite
I already called out your translator there for the good of the universe, and are awaiting response.
This should be one gaming community for XIV, not individual sites sniping eachother.
Your interview was indeed very informative, but that's definitely not what I was talking about.
I'm waiting for him to register here and reply to you, but he told me he haven't taken anything. I dislike drama.
So the fact that some of them are word for word copies of what Elmer translated, including personal embellishments that weren't part of the original dialogue, is irrelevant? Face it, a good deal of material was taken from his work, and not from any of your "translators" work.
Me too, he also edited out the comparison I posted on your forums.
His translation: "We want to look into how players use the system. In FFXI the users would sometimes inject their play style into the game and the system would bend and shape into something new and unexpected. I hope to see this same thing happen once again"
Elmers earlier translation: "The developers will also be looking at how players use the system, Tanaka says. In Final Fantasy XI, the users would sometimes inject their playstyle into the game and the system would bend and shape into something new and unexpected. Tanaka hopes to see this kind of ingenuity once again."
He changed it from third person, to first person.
Rectify the situation before you do unrecoverable damage to your sites reputation, that's all Ill say regarding the issue since its obvious your translator is in DENY DENY mode. I'm done replying on core since people are just editing my posts anyway.
Dood, look.. I only go to the sites that I cite.
EVERY translator has to "add" some or adlib.. I'm not the most fantastic translator in the world. I don't know every meaning for every word.
So I just write what I can and what I know.
I haven't taken anything. Because of this I've been linked the other two articles out there I believe at Zam and Eorzeapedia; they are even in a completely different format from mine? I have the original author's questions in there and they do not.. I don't understand how I have "stolen" your information?
We are translating from the exact same sources guys.
I'm only here to try and translate what I am given and spread it to all of you guys for ALL of our benefits.
Wow so, it's ok for you to advertise your site on ZAM by recruiting for Core, but not ok for someone to even link to a ZAM article on your forum because it's "advertising"?
LOL
Look, this doesn't even concern me, I'm just a third party observer pointing out the obvious. If Elmer wants to keep this going, I'll let him be the one to do it.
But be real, its obvious what you did. And this isn't going to end well if you continue going down the path you are.
OK, I guess this is starting to heat up, so I'll have to post some actual proof.
I present the Wall of Shame
We've been keeping tabs on this for a while in case the situation blew up, and well, here we are.
I wasn't aware that was going on but noticed a similarity in format, assuming it was the same translated interview. It has gotten pretty confusing to tell apart the interviews and I began to wonder if Sage and Tanaka just did one central interview at gamescom and everyone did their own take of it.
So the devs actually did a number of separate repeat interviews?
I watched two videos that were part one and two with subtitles from CurseNetwork You tube channel and the wording seemed similar to an earlier written translated article but I figured I was imagining it.
Eorzea Today you tube show also has pics with the Ffxivcore logo on them btw. Don't know who is putting on that show.
If everyone credits properly, who they got the info from and asks the interview source first if they can use it or re translate with embellishments then perhaps things would work out. It is true we are all looking for info and I appreciate the hard work of translators, even if I do not know who is doing what now.
Thank you Elmer, seems the WOS will be the flow chart I need.
I'll investigate and get back when I know more.
wow, at this point i'd sue them and MT is either too stupid to grasp the wall of shame or has a very akward definition of translating...
elmer if he's insistent give him a test, put up (say in a vid) a bunch of stuff in jp that's ff related words and have him translate it.
WoS is truth which is sad but if he wants to prove otherwise, that's a good way to do it.
There's a difference between translating the same thing and taking what Elmer's own embellished translations (with his own personal tweaks) and try to pass it off as what was actually said, when that dialogue wasn't expressly mentioned at all. Elmer even pointed out on the link he gave how you guys copied things he wrote that weren't mentioned in the actual interview.
