    I stand by my statement.

Don't be an idiot, any translator knows that no two translations of the same thing from japanese to english are going to be worded the same (often times not even similarly) due to there being so many words in japanese that don't translate directly to english. You can cry that you're translating the same thing and that's why it's similar all you want, but it's obvious to everyone else that even if you do know some japanese, you're just ripping off the parts you're not sure about directly from other sites.

Do yourself and Elmer a favor and either don't bother or actually learn to translate stuff by yourself without copying others.

It's not drama so much as pointing out the obvious and asking you to stop. (possibly with more ridicule than normal, but still)

Mmm.. I read Elmer's link and I'll have to agree that is pretty blatant plagiarizing. Each translator uses metaphors and words that most identify with his or her knowledge and seriously.. those look definitely copied.

imo this shows it straight and simple:

    ZAM
Sage Sundi begins by explaining that he will be returning to his role as Global Online Producer for Final Fantasy XIV
    FFXIVCORE
Sundi: I will be returning as the Global Online Producer for Final Fantasy XIV.
    Elmer
Here is just one example that shows how FFXIVCore doesn’t pay attention. Sage Sundi does not use the term “Global Online Producer” here. In fact, he goes straight into talking about the three teams. I accounted for the context in my summary, but if Core is presenting a direct translation of the article, how did that end up in Sundi’s quote?
so yeah, how comes FFXIVCore puts that term into Sundi's talk if elmer only did mention it to give a context, when Sundi actually never mentioned that he will be returning as "Global Online Producer".

Honestly, I feel bad about the situation. I think the guy just got in over his head and really wants to translate. I don't think he's being malicious, but either Zyuu is out of the loop, or they wanted to get away with it.

Until now I never said anything, just kept the record. But now FFXIVCore is spamming ads for translators on the very sites they took content from and we have some guy on ZAM accusing us of being liars.

I see the Core crew busted out their Celeras broom and now there's absolutely nothing there about this. Nice.

That's OK, Instapaper remembers all. I thought it would be helpful for Zyuu's investigation. He seems so intent on solving this mystery.

It seems like the site kind of mushroomed out of no where really fast like a starbucks but I have not visited the forums there. I didn't know cursenetwork and ffxivcore were together either.
I noticed yesterday that the first copy of what looked like part one of the interview video was pulled down from you tube and then part one and two got put up. Hmm

After reading WOS it makes more sense now why I sensed a similarity.

I am I'm looking into this now. I'm not sure who's the most convincing. It's not a straight translation on every part.

    I have a few quotes:

<MakaiTenshi> If two people read the same quotes and are asked to rewrit them.. then I would think they would be quite similar.. you know?
<MakaiTenshi> No but he said he was returning.. and he used to be the Global Online Producer.. so put two and two together.. bam
<MakaiTenshi> They are picking small parts of a large document and claiming im stealing them. So idk what to say. How can I do the rest of it without copying him

IF I discover that he has indeed taken things from your translations, then I'll have the articles re-made by our other translator. But I am not convinced, why spend time re-writing the articles... when he know actual Japanese and can translate stuff.

Regardless, 05.21am here. This won't be finished until next week or tomorrow.

Seeing how no one is stating this Id like to point out a few things in my defense:

We are translating the exact same words.

The parts in question are small segments of a large piece. (but somehow I managed to translated the whole thing but decided to copy small sections of it?)

I have things translated that they do not.

Consistently I do not have as much embellishing as the other translator.

The supposed copied pieces aren't even worded exactly the same. In most cases the only words that are similar are ones that have to do with specifics that should be the same.

And also, I wasn't the person who did the post with the complete copy, images and all, of the one article. I was not a part of core at that time.

    -Edit.

And apparently my character is being attacked because the other translator was told to do so by people at Zam?

People from Core have been posting things on their site saying rude things? If anything that looks like motive on their end with militias intent and they are making me out to be their target because of the circumstances.

Just an observation: When you adamantly deny despite proof, and then say you're "looking into it" whilst the evidence is irrefutable is just lol. Especially after core has gone through so much trouble to delete accusations and troublesome posts that accuse them on their own forums.

Seems to me they're just trying to either sweep this under the rug, or ride out the storm and hope in a few weeks to month that people will forget. Maybe I'm wrong, but so far the evidence seems to support this.

Not at all. I am looking into it, but it's not like that is exact proof. And I keep our site drama free, so I erase drama. If this was 100% certain, I wouldn't. I'm having this looked at.

Edit- and there has been no staff posting over at ZAM. I can't control what everyone else does.

Drama is usually when there are problems arising for no reason, unless I have a totally different definition.

Discussion, accusations and the aftermath of such things are things that need to be known. You're not deleting drama, you're *making* drama by deleting this stuff and showing you simply will not tolerate being seen in a negative light. All that will do is drive any viewership you have to places where they can get the unfiltered versions, people who delete, alter and redact statements are colored as fascists in most people's eyes. Words are just words, and if it isn't needless drama (like an entirely unsubstantiated rumor, or something else that has absolutely zero or scant backing - which of course this has plenty) then most people wouldn't delete them unless they were worried or afraid of them.

Thinly veiling your deletions as "we don't want no drama" just serves to be a proof positive to the accusations. If they weren't true you'd have undeniable proof, and you'd be able to show it, and the accusations for the most part would stop and this would be over. Obviously that isn't the case and the longer this takes to be handled properly the more damage will be done to your site, and I assume that would be something you'd wish to avoid at all costs, but deleting things that so far have a great amount of evidence stacked up in their favor is just making things worse.

Well if it helps, from a translator's point of view it's almost impossible to be THAT close to Zam's translations without copying and rearranging words. Even if your translator does translate stuff that others haven't, for the stuff that's up before his, I'm willing to bet he looks at the previously translated articles and plagiarizes them for the parts he has trouble with. I'm by no means fluent in japanese myself so I can see the um...convenience of riding someone else's translations and bullshitting my way through the ones no one else had done yet. Not saying that's exactly what's happening but it's pretty goddamn likely.

I'm not saying what anyone is doing is right or wrong.. I haven't asked for things to be deleted or anything like that. I only want to sort things out and try to have things be rectified.

What proof would you like? If I can show something in my defense Id love to.

I'm more than willing to do what I can do try and work/sort things out because I know I have not copied this man's work. I may not be the best translator on the face of the planet and some of my translations may be off or askew, but then again a lot of the time it's just me working on it alone.

That's for you to decide. And so far it's not looking good. No question is going to be the same, the answers will vary to interpretation. It hasn't and all of Elmers evidence is right in front of you. There are bad apples in all sort of groups, it's inevitable. Your actions will have a definite consequence.

The site stats/spikes on Alexa are rather interesting when one references the time lines of these events.

No, because flaming started pretty fast and no one wanted to believe the person posting it anyway. You're entitled to your own views, but I do not want flaming and drama. I also feel this thread is fairly pointless, but I can see where it comes from, since someone posted about us looking for translators.

Regardless, I am making sure to look into this completely and when I have all the information available to me, I will act on it. I chose to trust my staff over someone I don't know at all -- but obviously if I find out that he did something wrong, then I'll take care of it.

Now twist my words and sentences more, I could (if I didn't have a busy schedule) keep doing this forever.

    My point is simple:

If there's information taken from another site in the recent article(s), then I will take care of it as soon as possible (few days tops). I'm not someone jumping the gun instantly, sorry to disappoint.

To be fair, they have their own stuff too, even if the accusations are true it's just one translator. There's no need for every poster to come out of the woodwork, breaking into the double digits on their post count, to get their virtual pitchforks and start condemning everyone. Let the parties involved work this out on their own, Elmer seems perfectly capable of dealing with this. Also, deleting the threads of accusations and such from their own forums is smart, they aren't trying to run a democracy, they are a website and protecting their integrity comes first. They obviously aren't going to leave a thread like that up, they'll take it down and figure it out internally to prevent unrest.
