So since my xbox 360 got rrod (old launch version), I was looking to buy a replacement one. I was going to get the cheapest slim version (4gb?) and then get a bigger xbox hard drive on ebay or something.

Do you guys see anything wrong with this? Or is there any other way to get this even cheaper?

If the HDD you have is sufficient, you can use it in a Slim. Can buy a case for a few bucks, or I think you can just plug it in and brace/tape it so it doesn't shift around.

I did the same, planned to flash a WD hard drive then buy the enclosure knock-off separately, but ended up finding a used hard drive for dirt cheap on amazon
