They apparently didn't touch the silver/gold times for the X1. Just judging by what the times are now for bronze, as long as you finish it should be pretty easy to bronze them all. When I bronzed it (with the older times), it took me about an hour on Monza, another hour for Suzuka, and about 3 hours for Nurburgring GP (this is definitely the hardest of the three, in my opinion). After doing the Suzuka 1000km in the X1, I still wasn't even close to the silver time on that course.

Also a tip for the X1, you lose downforce at an exponential rate when you brake. A lot of corners that you would normally have to brake pretty heavily on in a normal car, you just need to slightly take your foot off the gas. The last chicane of Monza, the two turns after the esses in Suzuka, and quite a bunch of turns at Nurburbring all need to be taken at just about full speed.

I think after 60 laps on grand valley with the x1, I can maybe get the "perfect" lap about 20% of the time.

Course I have to laugh at how B-spec can drive that thing full tilt at night in the rain when there aren't any windshield wipers. If you watch the example videos for the challenge, you'll probably go "yea right, how the hell can a real person learn to drive this car at its fullest"

Pretty sure anyone driving an X1 in real life would kill themselves. Even after I've become "proficient" with it, there are still times where I don't cut a corner perfectly, or lose focus for a split second, and slam into a wall at 175 MPH.

My problem with the x1 is that it doesn't generate enough downforce naturally. So since the fan has to maintain a certain position to the ground to keep generating downforce when you unbalance the car it immediately becomes uncontrollable since it has no natural downforce despite the wing.

Yeah, I usually go flying when I either accidentally run over the red/white turn marker things, or barely touch the dirt. Nurburgring comes to mind here as the track gets so narrow in parts.

Whelp, looks like I'm starting from scatch. My old 80gb HD backup was done back before the GT5 patch that removed the copy-protected status on the save files, so I'm screwed from using them on the new PS3 because Sony's backup utility is a fucking twat in need of a serious revision.


Anyone got some quick-start advice for me to get through the beginners crap quicker? I'm borrowing my friends' X1, as well as my pre-order/collector's edition cars currently to get back the 10 some hours I put into the single-player prior.

Buy a Miata and pimp it out would probably be best advice, that'll get you the miata challenge, the FR challenge, all the early Japanese stuff, and should be able to handle all the low level unrestricted stuff.

Wouldn't mind for Polyphony to revamp some of the home interface. It's a real pain to borrow someone's car as it stands, especially when you got a large friends list like I do. It wouldn't kill them to just add another tab in the garage for Shared Cars.

What lap times are you hitting? When i got it the first thing i did was that endurance race to get used to the car. Towards the end of the race i was able to get a 1'09 along with a few 1'12s. I think with enough practice though that can be cut to under a minute.

I'll throw my vernyon and enzo up there when I get home as well as a wrx and a rx7 for the seasonal races up right now (get a good million xp right there heh). Any specific cars you need, just msg me on PSN and I'll get around to it usually by the end of the night. I think I have cars for everything and anything except the old jag. Didn't do indy 500 A-spec since I have been lazy.

As for my lap times on grand valley, lowest I got was 1'04 or something like that. Hardest section for me to go full tilt was between hairpin 1 and 2. I hit the sequence about 30% of the time, the other 30% I hit grass and spun, other 40% I hit the wall at 180mph. Averaged around 1'10 lap times.

added ya, I put up my pimped miata (mx-5, roadster, whatever you wanna call it), my good gallardo, some little honda that's good for FF stuff, and a nascar

if anyone's still having trouble with the nascar events, the car I put up is a really crazy tune that actually works reeeeeally well

it's still hard to win daytona in it, but you can win the rest really easy

also... how do you see what cars other people have shared lol? I'm guessing the garage shows up and just nobody i have listed has shared any yet?

You go to the Profile section in the Home menu, and check people on your friends list that have GT5. If they shared a car(s) it'll show up within the bottom row of boxes, and you select the from there.

I don't even know what to say about the X1 challenge. I'd almost say it's impossible with controller due to the lack of accelerator control, but I can put up the lap times I need to pass it... just not twice in a row with absolutely flawless driving the whole way.

I did it with a controller. (Disclaimer I'm in the GT academy and I only all bronzed it) Probably easier with a wheel, which I have but didn't bother to use for the challenge but it's doable.

It's been a while since I've done that race, but I remember getting ~56's with fresh tires, and ~1:05's with nearly gone tires. That's assuming I didn't have a crash somewhere. The part between hairpin 1 and 2 is pretty hard since it's sort of blind as you're going uphill. Quite a few times I remember taking the turn way too wide and touching the grass which sent me flying. Another part I had issues with is the turn before the first tunnel, when I my tires were low I'd get some bad understeer and touch gravel and lose control.

Edit: Also I can't use the right stick for accelerator/brake. I'd always get confused and have either too much or too little braking. I have to use x and square as I haven't really used a "modern" controller with a racing game in quite some time.
