    Vista x64 after Windows Update

    Sup fellas,

Yesterday after Tuesday's windows updates came out, both of my x64 Vista systems started blue screening after boot with a 7E stop error. Rolled back the updates and they're fine. Seems others are having the same issue: Vista x64 BSOD on Windows update, Rollback works fine

Just a heads up, may wanna hold off on the updates if you use 64 bit Vista.... though if anyone has a workaround or installed the updates without errors, please let me know too!

Thanks for the tip. Makes me glad I set my windows updates to manual/notify.

Yea this happened to my friend when SP2 came out. I looked around and it turned out that the service pack was what caused the error. I've declined updating for the moment because of it.

Well, this wasn't SP2 - it was one of the 3 KB updates that came out yesterday. But yes, I would think WS2008 could be effected too.

No issues on my rig. Ran through a reboot cycle twice just to see what would happen. Everything still purring along like normal.

FYI: Updates I installed were KB973874, KB968389, KB972036, KB905866. Two of those were released on Tuesday, the other two are a little older, but all were installed successfully today.

People have narrowed it down to KB973879 causing the problem. Ironically, it's a fix designed to remedy stop errors.... and it causes a stop error. Ha.

If you don't have a restore point, you can still boot into safe mode and remove this update via add/remove programs.
