Tried three cards, Household Bank from HSBC(current card), Visa, and Capital One. None are eligible. Yay Square.
We'll find out in this Tuesday. All I know is a lot of people will be out for blood.
SE isn't functionally retarded, (we'll see on Tuesday.) My guess if they are indeed cracking down on non-3d secure accounts, they will do this in waves to lessen the backlash from the playerbase. The accounts that got an e-mail should be the only ones affected.
Wait and see is the best approach. No need to get all panicky until you see an LM error.
Keep spreading the information around to anyone you can. Be nice to get some media attention that might force SE to rethink their methods or at least get an explanation (hell would subsequently freeze over.)
i might have missed it, but what email is this letter coming from? i have everything but a couple addresses blocked due to fucking gold buying spam emails, so im wondering if it got blocked or not
edit: nevermind its in the first fucking line in the quote lol
Boy I can't imagine the kool aid some of you are drinking in thinking a company is intentionally trying to get customers to stop giving them money for one service so they'll give them money for another service that requires more resources or maybe even not give them money at all
Have no fear everyone, I bring you news from the prophet.
A member in my linkshell is an SE employee who was briefed about this issue.
**All accounts created within the last two months will need to update with a new card with 3d security (Either Verified by Visa, or MasterCard SecureCode also Bank of America offers 3d cards)
**If your account is over two months old, any card on file before the 3D security went into effect will remain valid until your card expires. So those of you who do not have access to a card with 3d security at this time, have until your current card expires...which may end up outlasting FFXI altogether.
If you recently reactivated an old account before the 3d service went into effect you will also be able to continue using the current card on file.
It is also important to note --just having a 3d secured card IS NOT ENOUGH-- you MUST register it with Verified by Visa or SecureCode. I'm being told that Bank of America cards use Verified by Visa to do this process.
If you are one who needs to complete the verification, be sure to go back into playonline after you register and update your billing info.
Hope this information helps put some of you at ease, because it sure calmed me down =P
Feel free to sticky this, or update the OP.
Didn't say I was an employee~
At any rate, why they are only going for accounts created in the last two months is anyone's guess. SE likes to make up arbitrary numbers, and half-baked plans to combat RMT and increase security.
Believe what you will, but this person has always shared accurate information and isn't one I'd suspect to make such detailed false claims.
From everything I've read thus far, this is the least-far-fetched information in the thread.
It is the most logical information in the thread. I'm just cynical when it comes to SE. Don't take this the wrong way. Thanks for posting this info. It's better than the barrage of silence that we've been getting.
Can anyone counter this? As in, has anyone received an e-mail ultimatum about an account that's older than 2 months?
If not, after September 1st, provided the servers don't implode, we can move on to bigger issues with SE.
I want my security token god dammit! ; ;
I opened a new account a month ago and I got the email day before yesterday. Thing is... I DID SECURE MY CAR AND FINISHED THE PROCESS, even then I went to the SE page that you get when you click the POL button when updating payment info and it just says server busy / check that your card is valid and will not let me finish the process...
Anyone else with this shit problem??
Anyone have luck with a Prepaid Visa in the USA? I'll probably call my bank today and see if they can confirm it works for VbV.
I'm on the boat of "If it happens, it happens." Till then, i'll just fish more. lol <3
Now THAT makes sense, fucking over the make/spam/dump accounts by requiring a real traceable card and not a throwaway debit is much cooler than "we're randomly fucking over a large number of you because we REALLY don't want your money."
Leave it to a bunch of disgruntled IT workers and MMO addicts to not stop and consider that businesses try to turn a profit, not beg people to not to give them money anymore
Then again that line of fucked up reasoning tends to occur when people think they're the most important person in the world
For the record: There is literally no business model that involves telling people who are giving you money to not give you money anymore
