    eSATA

So I picked up one of those front panel port things that goes in a drivebay recently and it has an eSATA port. On the inside of the pc it just had a regular SATA cable hooked to it. First question is can that just plug into any old SATA port on the mb? As for the eSATA port, it looks shaped a little different (no key "L" lip on the end), is there a special cable for that? If so, can you get a cable that will allow you to plug a regular SATA disk with the L plug to the eSATA port?

I believe there are special cables for external and internal sata.

You will need a SATA to eSATA to make devices work. This would be work.

To use a SATA device on an eSATA port you'll need a SATA->eSATA Cable and a SATA Power->USB Cable to power it. I have never used the eSATA port on my Desktop because it just seems like too much hassle. I suppose if you were backing up to an external RAID setup or something, it might be useful. D: Always seemed easier to use external USB hdd, or something like a Drobo on a Firewire or USB port.

Connect the eSATA panel to an empty SATA port inside your computer. You'll need an eSATA cable to run from your computer to your external drive, or an eSATA -> SATA if you want to use an internal drive externally. The only difference besides the connection type of the cables is that SATA is limited to 36" whereas eSATA is limited to 72". They are the same speed, protocol, everything.
