Brokencyde IS indeed a band. They're only sig worth since they have a lyric about punching babies and their music videos are hilariously terribad.

Pretty good movie I thought. I went in expecting a disaster movie with amazing special effects and a fairly lightweight plot and I got exactly that. I'm not sure why people are railing on the movie for not being perfectly factual, it doesn't take much if any effort to suspend disbelief and enjoy the goddamn film. I enjoy a good disaster film and this one certainly ranks up there with the likes of Deep Impact.
Honestly, I'm pretty dick to shitty movies (e.g. Paranormal Activity); I went to this on Saturday night with my girlfriend and I was definitely entertained.
Just saw it. It's watchable. If you are expecting high-art oscarbait film, you will be disappointed. If you want something to occupy 2 hours and pump action into your eyeballs, it's a decent choice until Avatar comes out.
What always bugs me is that disaster movies rarely have any of the "picking up the pieces" afterward. But it looks like there's plans to do a sequel TV series covering that topic, and since 2012 has made it's massive budget back in a single week, it seems like it may go through.
Also, you guys are forgetting to list Emmerich's other movies. In addition to the ones above, the man has also directed and/or written
Universal Soldier
The Patriot
and
motherfuckin Stargate
You bitches best not have anything bad to say about Stargate.
It's not really the story that irked me in 2012 but more the level of stupidity with the characters. Story as a whole you can brush aside, characters you have to sit there and put up with until the next display of pretty CGI. A movie that makes you wait 40+ freaking minutes until your first boom fails when your forced to put up with shitty characters in a shitty story. How you can justify that, disaster movie or not, is beyond me.
This movie wasn't really that bad.. but I went in very skeptical after reading all the horrible reviews.
Spoiler: show
Finally got around to seeing this. I agree on just about everything. Girlfriend and I were definitely entertained and I'm at least guaranteed some action because of it.
Thanks Roland Emmerich!
