    Maha Slops vs Shadow Trews?

    http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9208/nukes.png

    32(Trait), 7+5(Earrings), 7(Body), 5(Hands), 10(Ring), 2(Feet)

    MAB: +68 (+8 /w Pendent)

So it's +4 MAB vs 8 INT question...

My math is showing +2.2% increase, which should win out all the time on easy stuffs for nukes above ~800 damage. (I'd obviously use a different set for anything that needs a mixed or full elemental+ build!)

Potency merits or using a different element? (or haven't done them yet?)

I always thought Mahatma were better unless you have HQ shadow.
    Also, isn't it something like 2INT = 1MAB?

Oops~ Yea 5 Thunder and 5 Blizzard, and I almost always stick to those spells. So I guess thats another 10 MAB to add there. 1.92/1.88 = ~2.1% increase in spells.

2INT->1MAB is just a guideline, but majority of my nukes are in the T3/T4 catagory with scattered AM2. I was under the impression that Maha was always better too, but the math seems to point to Shadow trews if your nukes is going to land at ~800 or higher.

I believe Shadow for AM2 and Maha for aga3/t4, but this may vary based on target.

Pure damage wise with the gear you listed, and assuming ice/thunder spells, Mahatma better for Thunder 4 and Bliz 4 (unless you have like 75 or 100 more INT than your target, respectively) while Shadow better for AM2 (unless you have equal or lower INT than your target). Mahatma should be better for tier 3 as well.

Regarding the Enm+/Enm- merits, I feel that a top tier player will always be better off with Enm+. There are very few situations nowadays where you have a severe need for enmity-: WHM or RDM healer at AV or PW fights, BLM at ouryu/tiamat, RNG at ixion/odin.. all of these can be managed through gear/playstyle regardless of the 4 enmity from merits. Now, looking at other situations: In dynamis/limbus/ein/merits/salvage, if I am on a melee job then I want hate. I know that I can tank the monsters reliably, through having a great haste setup for recasts as well as phys- and magic- sets when applicable. I have these for every job. In dynamis/ein, if I'm on BLM I'd still prefer to have hate over the other BLMs on slept mobs.. again due to superior phys- sets and self-image making me feel like a better BLM. Pulling hate on mobs people are already fighting is a non-issue as it shouldn't even be possible if your melee are up to par. On BLM in limbus, again, I'd prefer to have hate even though the mobs are laughable and gravitied. I know when I can cast with hate and when I can't, it makes it easier on the other 1-2 people present. The vast majority of situations are set up such that having hate on a better player is preferred. I am by no means calling anyone in my ls gimp, but I would still prefer to have hate personally than have it on them most of the time.. if you think your ls or certain people in it are gimp this point becomes even stronger. Even if they aren't gimp, I have yet to see a serious endgame shell besides my own where every mage bothers with idle gear and every melee bothers with a phys- set(obviously expecting them to have magic- ones is a bit over the top but hey).. if you're one of the people who does bother with that stuff, why not get the most bang for your buck and merit enmity?

To elaborate further on the "if your nukes land for 800 or higher" thing. It's not your actual damage but rather the base damage of the spell. So in your case (78 MAB), Shadow Trews overtake Mahatma at 712 base damage for Tier4/AM2, 534 base damage for Tier 3. Since Bliz 4, Thunder 4, and AM2 have base damage constants of 506, 541, and 710, respectively, that's how I came up with the above guideline of Mahatma for tier 4 unless dint +75~100, Shadow for AM2 unless negative dINT.

But 712 of course isn't the actual damage that you'd look for. It'd really be if your nukes are 1456, but even that is assuming no mob MDB or damage bonus/reduction, no day/weather, etc, it'd obviously be a different value in those cases.

I would not be suprised that at even 94% Accuracy bar a neck piece that Peacock Amulet would win, get an Ancient Torque though!

I went 4/4 Enmity+ and 4/4 Crit+ and never regretted it. For a hardcore tank, I'd think Crit- would be about as effective as Interruption rate- because getting crit-hit dramatically increases the odds of being interrupted (anecdotally true for me anyway), and so -Crit rate would also be -Interrupt rate with -damage.

Also, I did a lot of stuff on BLM/NIN. I honestly prefer /NIN to /RDM for soloing sea. Never bothered with interrupt rate- gear because that's just for suckas that get hit. Subbing NIN and not duoing with fewls removes that problem.

    4 enmity 4 crit ftw

i dont regret the enmity one bit, even when i was lvling new DD jobs. i would never pull hate because of my enmity merits. i pulled hate because i did good dmg lol. but looking back, i never needed the enmity merits for holding hate anyway. i guess it was ok in salvage when i was solo tanking unweakened LBC's with my hades, but i probably wouldve merited -crit too if i could go back. -spell wouldnt do me as much good since i liked to tank with sam as well.

Just finished Apoc. Nigh, what should i get...

    Ethereal Earring vs. Hollow Earring

Would use Hollow mainly for WAR, and my TP set would look like this with it.

    - FFXIAH.com

Also would use when I'm THF/notninja.

I have RDM NIN 75 and PLD 61 which Etheral would help with that.

Convince me to get Ethereal or Hollow!

I'm WAR main, but I got Ethereal because it is really good for a lot of my other jobs. If you plan to use PLD with any frequency, Ethereal is really nice to have. Hollow's one of the best TP earrings for WAR, but as long as you have some GA merits assault earring will usually do fine.

Toredor equals that DOT increase at 92% acc and beats it anywhere under 92%?

I'm suprised! I can't be reading that right surely? I can't remeber the last time i parsed over 92% acc, normally average anywhere from 87-90% on birds for example.

So on DRK with 20% haste in gear (65% total then with hasso/song/haste on top) outside of active desperate blows or soul voice march toredor will win?
Yes you are reading it right.

Basically Blitz ring is only useful when you are on or very near accuracy cap or you have infeasibly high haste (for normal situations).

You could use it when Diabolic Eye is up.
