Yep, as predicted, Quicktime plays videos AWESOME. 35mb-55mb of RAM used for playing back 1080p, absolutely no CPU load.

This instantly has me sold. I haven't checked out dock exposé or most of the other features, but I have noticed a few apps don't work, so I guess it's just a waiting game untill things get upgraded. Small price to pay I guess.

Installed and got it running.

To be honest, its much better than I expected. Performance increase, especially on 64-bit processors is wicked. Expose is better than ever, extra disc space is awesome. There are minor compatibility problems with some software but they'll hopefully be addressed soon.

I don't personally own a Mac, but my dad does. It's currently running 10.4 (Tiger). Is it possible to install 10.6 without erasing any of his files (pure OS upgrade only)? He'd probably kill himself if he lost what was on his HDD.

Sure, Leopard install won't reformat or erase any of the documents. Heck, it even keeps useless system files -_-

However, its always recommended to back up before installing OS's in case you don't like it, or it ends up being incompatible with certain software. Smart way is to copy an image to an external drive then install the OS.

Everything I've seen has indicated that you can, though I can't say I've personally tried it. My upgrade from 10.5 left everything intact, as OS X upgrades tend to. I can't think of one offhand that's actually required a clean install.

The documentation includes info for 10.4 if needed, and Apple has even said the $29 package will work $29 Snow Leopard retail disc will install over Tiger - Ars Technica (though it violates the EULA).

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet.


Exchange support still seems to be Web Services for Exchange :/ Hopefully Office 2010 will give us actual exchange support...or MS will fix the little issues of Web Services (IE, losing color labels for calendar and the like, yes, I have users for whom that's an issue).

MS's excuse for office on mac is bullshit. Stripped half the functionality out of the thing, and gave no options =(.

I gotta say I love the apple store people, they totally rock on this file transfer. When I bought my new macbook pro, I gave him my macbook and not only did he transfer my files, but also my programs like Quicken and Sync Manager and he installed Snow Lep for me!

I am noticing faster processing but that may be from the new computerness and not the new OS

Apple's Migration utility transfers apps n' such too. Can easily do it yourself if you were inclined.

Got it installed and fully running and so far its sweeeetttt! Havent found any issues with programs yet, but then again i havent got much extra installed.

I actually ran into some problems with the multitouch with an upgrade, but doing a clean install solved the problem for me. It's running great now!

Installed this last week, I got the last copy in town (I would have had to drive 30 mins to Waterloo for the next closest place). Works really well especially with CoD4 and C&C3. I had some printer issues but I found out that I should have had my printer plugged in when I installed it and it should be fixed now. I got 15GB back which is nice but not really needed as I upgraded the 160GB harddrive for a 500GB one about 2 months back.

what kinda video work do you do?

Right this minute I'm editing some footage of friends skateboarding I don't work yet, about to go to uni and do a Film and Media course, but I've had a fair amount of experience in FCP editing stuff for school projects, friends skateboarding and stuff here and there. Nothing too big to sink my teeth into, just taking the time now to learn the program fully to get ahead of the game.

I'm guessing you work in the field though?
