Been trying some new stuff in c-aion. The first time I tried chanter, I was an Asmodian. I don't know if it was the job, the race, or a combination, but I hated it and stopped at 15.

A few weeks later, I got tired of tanking and in a drunken rage, quit/npc'd my 27 templar gear and restarted. When I got to 10 chanter, I remembered that I leveled a 10 gladiator on a 2nd acct using the free 6h, with some time remaining. I know 2boxing isn't for everyone, nor does everyone agree on its morality, but I reallllly loved it.

I didn't have a 2nd good computer that wasn't running win7, so I 2boxed on the same PC, which ran both clients perfectly fine. It gave me a new appreciation for chanter, I guess I didn't really give it a chance the first time through. Around lv18, I was able to self-duo the krall elites for like 18k exp, was a bit tedious but it allowed me to finish some krall quests.

Getting the hp regen mantra helps a lot in pve and +speed is always good If you liked bard in ffxi, you'll probably like chanter more as you can actually do some decent damage. They're also pretty tough to kill in 1v1 pvp, well from my experiences at least pre-lv30. With self cures and +speed to run away, they're quite annoying. Whether 2boxing or duoing with a friend, chanter is a nice job to have.

    Why play Ranger?

So deliciously bursty. If Leather didn't look like absolute crap, I would probably be rolling one for release, but cloth is so much more prettier.

I agree with everything you said about Chanter, the 3 (2, lol) of us can kill any elites pretty easily as Glad Glad Chanter :D

Chanter is for sure my 2nd class I am going to play after Ranger.

I don't want to be a healer but I like to have them if I need it, that and if you duo with a Templar your a 2 man army :D

Yea that's sick.. He plays templar like I do too, constantly switching back and forth between a 2 hander and sword and board. Allows you to put out big dps, yet still use shield stuns to stop casting. At early levels it really saves you a lot of downtime.

I'll still be going Glad I think, you need 95% of your gear to be top end to do that, plus you miss out on the awesome-ness of Gladiator :D!

Counter-video, me grinding in the Abyss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT6nsErtiy4 ! No where as spiffy, but hey!

I wouldn't count a glad out because of that templar video. That video really shows templar's potential as a DD, but keep in mind: everything he's wearing a glad can wear and can do the EXACT same thing. except glad does in fact have better damage skills and the option of polearms (more damage then G.sword)

Glad also has AoE attacks, which Templar seemingly does not.

At first I was all for Templar (love tanking in wow/ffxi etc.), then realized that both allowed for either a job change(ffxi), or spec change(wow) that allowed you to dps as well. Being stuck as the low dps tank for everything would suck, which is why I looked towards glad. But if there's at least some potential for nice dpsing(even if it's heavily gear dependent) Templar might win. So hard to choose ; ;, just going to have to wait until tomorrow to try them both out.

honestly I'd compare the way clerics play to be very similiar to rdm (minus the enfeeble/kiting) but the top curer and an amazing nuke/soloist

YouTube - Aion - KOR Seyfried the Sorceress
good ol' Seyfried videos, just plain being awesome on sorcerer

    YouTube - Aion:The Tower of Eternity【spiritmaster Pley1】
first of 3 tutorials on spiritmaster game play

also kinda hard to find chanter videos for myself atm so I'll keep looking

(glad, temp, assassin, ranger pretty much be covered already in this thread)

really there is a great reason to play every class, it's just finding the one that fits your shoe size imho.

WEll as a cleric myself, MP is gigantic (got like 2k at lv 13 lol)

But when i fight i spam Smite 1 (when priest) and then heaven'S judgement which is an easy 200DMG.

But when you get Cleric lv 10 you learn Thunderbolt I and another one that iforgot and can spam Skillchains due to massive MP lol

everyone solos 1-10 and most jobs it's about the same speed (I'd argue that warriors and mages do it the fastest, with priest and scouts only slightly behind)

after 10, you just gotta push for lv16-18 or so then you can start doing elite parties (where the real exp is)
at lv10 you'll have two skillchains to use: the melee Hallow strike -> Heaven’s Judgment and the casting chain Smite -> Thunderbolt
Assassin doesn't get it's second skillchain set until lv20 (and that requires a stigma slot)
Ranger doesn't get a second skillchain until lv16 (but that's counting the first skillchain of swift edge>soul slash, a melee skillchain) it's second range skillchain doesn't come until lv25 (and at lv25 cleric get's it's lv3 skillchain of smite>thunderbolt>Divine Spark, which this skillchain is brutal)

you can ride the first area of elites all the way to lv23 (or25 if you really wanna push it) then the lv23-25 has abit of a gap for elite mobs until lv25 (then more elites) and after that there will always be elites to exp on all the way to lv50.

in Chinese Aion, one of the first 3 elyos to lv50 was a cleric. So don't let anyone tell you clerics level slowly.

the great thing about being a cleric is the confident solos (rarely should you be fearing dieing against mobs you solo) and the ability to get into partys or make your own parties. Hell, if all else fails just find a single DD and duo with them: every class (except maybe chanter) is a great duo partner for you. you have attack spells to stand at a distance along side sorcerers rangers or spiritmasters, and you have the option to melee and heal assassin gladiator templars or just cast from a distance while the melees are on a mob.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Oy3ZvLCrg
45 cleric soloing an elite mob, in 1.5 min (elites are mobs made for parties, so they have a TON of HP), hard to tell how much exp she got but it was about 1/5th of a bubble at lv45, in 1.5 min. I'd estimate that at about 500,000 to 700,000 exp for that kill, but I'm not positive (hard to tell from the video and the exp bar)

I'm playing rng on OB.. and I'm kinda loving it. At first, I was feeling meh about kiting and shooting. After playing it though, lv13, it's pretty awesome. It's like... soloing on rdm in ffxi but with arrows. (I know ffxi rngs could solo stuff but I never played rng) I just soloed Trandila, lv17 at lv13 lol.

I went Warrior > Gladiator, and while lag was possibly souring my experience, I kinda felt the job was lacking until I actually got a good weapon (chose the great sword) after getting to Sanctum. Finally getting a Chain 3 move made combat modestly faster, too, but I kinda miss using the protection ability to keep downtime a bit more minimal. Least resting seems fairly quick.
