    Treasure Hunter specifics

I was once told that a missed ranged attack on an already-claimed mob did not apply TH. I can't remember where I heard that, was either here or alla. (If it's incorrect, probably alla).

But it came up and now it's got me wondering about the specifics of TH again, and applying it.

A connected hit, damaging spell, landed or resisted debuff, or innitial claim of a mob gets you enmity and applies TH obviously. But somewhere it's said it's applied "like a debuff". So now am wondering:
Does missing a ranged attack on a claimed mob count? Or does the shot have to land?
What about casting a debuff to have "no effect" because it's already enfeebled? (casting sleep over a slept mob)
Does curing someone already on the hate list count? What if it cures for 0?
does aggroing a mob without taking any other action count?
What about a failed mug or steal?

Has anyone tested? I know there waere tests about TH it's self on the gigas in misereux (sp.?) coast, but i guess it'd be a stupid amount of effort to test every above method by killing a bunch of gigas with thf curing once for 0 and seeing if drops are what they should be >.>

The other thing as about equipping TH4 over TH2. If I'm soloing something that takes a reasonable amount of time, I just put on th4 at the end and keep sk/homam for most of the fight, but if it's applied on the initial enmity contact, then should you always wear for the start?
Heck, does anyone know if you have to keep on fulltime or if you could engage, remove, then re-equip near end?

Of course in ls on anything important leader says keep fulltime and connect a hit just to make sure. But I'm just curious about equipping/unequipping th4 for solo purposes and other means of applying TH for things like manaburn dyna.

You just need to be on the hate list for it to be active. That's all there is to it.

    Lies.

You need to be in the party that kills, ideally the one who does the killshot. And it has to be the hand with the Thief's Knife equiped which does the killshot, not another weapon.

So literally you could just stand out of range and just miss a ranged attack once on khim or ixion or such and have it applied?

Do all of the above things definitely get you on the hate list? casting a spell that takes no effect, missing a ranged attack or melee attack, curing for 0?

TheStig and Kumbai forgot TH only works if you are in a pt with a meleeing RDM as well.

Seriously. If you are on the hate list, and are in range to get exp (if that mob gives exp or not) and you are the THF, then your TH will be active. (I guess literally you don't have to be THF you can be /thf or just have something that gives TH. But i cant recall anything that gives TH that is not TH only)

On topic: I've wondered this myself. Easy remedy: hit it with a melee hit, or cure for non-0.

doesnt even need the exp range thing. you could be deleted while te fight is going on and the th would still be on.

    The following if from wiki and the testing done there;
Treasure Hunter - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

    Job Trait Overview

    Game Description
Increases chance that treasure will be dropped by enemies.

    * If more than one player has the effect in a party or alliance, the strongest version will trump all others.
    * This effect will remain active as long as the person with this trait is in the party/alliance, on the hate list of the mob (performed some action on the mob to generate hate), and within experience points range. Some amount of enmity is retained after a player is KO'ed, and also per SE commentary, the treasure hunter effect will remain even after the player has been KO'ed.
    * Treasure Hunter is not affected by amount of damage, "luck" items, or who makes the "killshot", nor does it have any effect on chests, coffers, or caskets (including those in battlefields).
    * The exact formula for calculating the effects of this trait are still unknown.

I know it's been verified through SE interviews in the past, but has anyone explored the possibility of being closer to the top of the hate list and not just being "somewhere" on the list itself?

THAT I do not know but would be interesting. Have everyone TA the THF when the mob is at like 5% to REALLY set hate up on him lol.

as a thf i usually Accomplice tanks or big DD's near the end of mobs HP when it's something we really want a drop from like in dyn or a nm. Don't really see much difference, sometimes after using Accomplice im tanking and have the highest hate and dont getanything.

I've been called out to KA many many times, stood behind rocks and do like bio, thunder (as /blm) and I've got pretty lucky with the belt, im probably 4/12

(them drops never been on a day with the kupo power TH)

As for as exp range goes, I'd have to say no. Under the assumption that gil finder and TH work similarly, I fin dthat the thief's range does not matter. Serket drops 20k in gil when I solo him. One day a party of a thf and a rdm claim, wipe, and HP to Serket. I recover Serket at about 40% and solo him the rest of the way, receiving 30k gil instead of 20 for the kill. As well as ring + vclaw

This is what I've tried to tell my LSmates 100x over, but they just say anyone can edit wiki. Anyone have a link to the interview it was from?

    Something i wonder.

exemple some THF forgot to equip TH4 and hit the mob as TH3

Then equips TH4 and hit the same mob, will it keep TH3 or overwrite with TH4?

That is if you put that the THF never leaves the HAte list after applying TH3

According to Wiki, but once again I'm trying to hunt down the interview that said it

"If more than one player has the effect in a party or alliance, the strongest version will trump all others."
