    laptop overheating issue

I have a HP pavillion dv6700 (says dv6000 on case but i think HP goofed on the casing) it has a 2.2 AMD dual chip for processor and runs on vista32 bit.

When i got this laptop for what I do it worked like a dream. never had any issues with it and could run ffxi, itunes, do Homework in word excell etc, and surf the web all at once no issues. However recently I have been having it just run so hot it shuts down fast. I have to put it at the lowest settings or it just blow hot air like crazy, if i put it at balanced power option it will heat up to fast and can turn off but not always. I am not blocking the one fan it has either, if i do it turns off immediately any setting almost.

No clue why all of sudden it has been doing this. I have tried only running one program at a time but it really does not seem to help much. This only happens really when I run ffxi too. Which i figure seems right since gamming is so hard on laptops... but like I said it ran like a dream when i first got it and now it isnt and i have no clue.

Try keep the techy language to a min... im very computer illiterate haha... psych major all i use comps for is HW, ffxi, and getting on some forums!

    3 things you can try:

Open it up to clean dust, not good if it's hard to get to though and you're not sure what you're doing
Buy a can of compressed air and shoot air into the vents (and watch dust fly out!)
    Buy a laptop cooler

Ideally you want to do all 3 things.

Or buy a new laptop, I know it's less than ideal.

Also, it happens because it just does. Hardware gets old, dust builds up, stuff wears. So don't panic too much.

I had a HP pav zd8000, (as well as my friend) and both of ours ended up w/ an overheating problem. I tried opening mine up and shocked it to death (though my replacement laptop is much better so yay). If you plan to open it up, know what you're doing.

He is probably talking about the emergency shut down heat setting in there, not the BIOS's fault by any means. Its put there to save you from melting your hardware and damaging it.

My laptop shuts itself off but im not brave enough to mess around with it, my laptop is usually basically cooking my leg by that time. Also, any single ladies? Yeah my swimmers are dead so gimme a call.
