Im sitting on my 3rd year with my ikea bedframe. Dunno why you say their shit breaks.

Yeah, I just hit the three year mark with my bedroom full of Ikea furniture and nothing is broken yet. I've moved 5 times in those 3 years, too, so it's been through a lot. Oh, the college life.
That's because you have never held the really high-quality special glass types used in some medical and astronomical devices, where the kilogramm can cost you 10k € and more.
It was hard to refrain from touching those blocks, they felt so good, but scratched easily, so I generally kept my hands to the 1k €/kg blocks. So soft, those glasses were really heavenly.
If your IKEA furniture is falling apart after a year you're doing it wrong. Maybe try putting them together right.
And people who say there's cheaper alternatives than IKEA...here in Sweden (yes I'm biased) if you go to any other furniture store the price will be 1.5x-2x higher.
Also great thing about cheap furniture is that you can replace them a lot more often instead of buying some mega expensive handmade oak bench which cost $3000 that you refuse to get rid if 10 years later....because it was just too fucking expensive.
The only bad thing about IKEA imo is that it takes a whole fucking day going through the damn store (especially if you go there with women). Halfway through you're so tired of the place you never want to set your foot there again.
Oh and meatballz!

funfact: xkcd is one of the most pretentious, unfunny things ever shat out by the internet.
Right after you, I'm guessing?
Every xkcd comic I've ever seen falls into one or more of three categories: pretentious programming/math joke, author making himself look cool/mature, or hackneyed humor (but with nerds so it's funny, just ask the writers of The Big Bang Theory). Take this comic, for example. Whiteknighting? Check. Crusading against 4chan? Check. Numptastic feminist message? Yup. He certainly has a selective attention span; he remembered to draw his hipster hat, but he completely forgot to put a joke somewhere between all the ego-stroking.
You know who liked xkcd? aurik. I rest my case.
I never said glass = prestige. The guy said that Ikea makes their stuff out of cheap shoddy materials. I said glass is glass. You can't really make a type of glass that is more cheaply made than other types of glass you would use in furniture. There are obviously the other HQ glass types but like the other guy said, they're used in medical equipment etc. Not furniture.
Please quote where I said Ikea furniture is peak.
I said it's better to have disposable furniture than expensive shit that can be ruined by life's little accidents. Enjoy your fancy furniture when you decide to have kids.
Good old Kamprad rotates (in his soon to come grave).
When we moved back in 1999, I bought a load of Ikea furniture for my bedroom. I still use it today and I've moved twice since then. I don't recommend lugging three 6ft bookcases up a staircase though; that shit gets old.

I think the font-hysteria's funny... although if they'd switched to Comic Sans or Times New Roman I'd be down the retail park protesting right now.
And yeah seriously - wtf are you guys doing to your furniture? I've got bookcases here that have moved house 5-6 times and are still sturdy enough that I can sit with my feet up resting on them while on the computer. The cheap bargain basement stuff is just that - cheap and the stuff you use to get yourself sorted out - but some of the other stuff's actually pretty decent where Ikea's concerned (although the beds not being standard sizes is slightly annoying when it comes to buying sheets and stuff).
I'm guessing it's the old guys not reading instructions when building things dealie
Ikea's awesome - I always get a certain degree of amusement from standing by the car loading bays watching people try to fit all the stuff they've bought into the back of a Mini or something... it's like a twisted, evil version of Tetris.
My mom's decorated a significant part of her house w/ shit from Ikea partly b/c she doesn't want to deal with ridiculous heavy furniture anymore, partly because its cheap and she doesnt want a $3000 bureau that my brother and sister will fuck up. It's been a good ~7 years since she started buying shit from Ikea and my now 10 year old brother and sister and their friends have yet to break anything we have bought across 4 rooms of the house. Even the shitty toys/stuffed animals she ended up buying them everytime she dragged them to go look at something through the years are still not destroyed. I've also moved a good ~5 times in a 3 year period with my Ikea furniture for school and nothing has broken yet. Even the 50% off b/c of various problems/missing pieces computer desk I bought from them lasted 2 years and 2 moves before I simply threw it away because I had no need for it anymore. It was still perfectly useable at that point. What the fuck are you guys doing with your furniture?
edit: and definitely should've switched to wingding.
Oh jeez Comic Sans just needs to fucking go die in a fire. Get so many fucking sad bastard school heads who type EVERY FUCKING THING in it - it's like the resident office tosser with loud socks and a "zany" tie who thinks he's being soooo cool and with it when everyone else just thinks they're a collossal wanker. The font's got its uses (it's one of few with the written-style letter a so gets used a tonne with little kids) but it's fucking everywhere.
Loosely related but is anyone else mildly annoyed by the use of Papyrus in James Cameron's Avatar? I mean really?
